Chapter 1: A Cry For Help - Ylisse
"Daddy! Daddy!" little toddler Lucina waddled over to her father.
"Come on sweetie! You can do it!" Chrom beckoned her over, crouched down. Lucina stumbled a bit, but she managed to cross the hall and into her father's arms.
"Well done little princess! I'm so proud of you!" Chrom tickled his daughter's tummy, making her giggle.
"Oh Chrom... ever since the future Lucina left you've been spending more time with the baby than your ruling." Olivia sighed with a smile. A little blue bundle was in her arms.
"Well... I guess I just don't want to neglect her. A baby brother is amazing, but Inigo is too small to play..." Chrom smiled at the bundle. A blue-haired infant was snoozing away, his brand on his left eye. Olivia gazed adoringly at her children.
"I wonder how Gaius and Robin are doing?" she mused.
"Robin's pregnancy was indeed a surprise. Morgan didn't recover his memories, but Lucina took him back to her timeline anyway to help him. So I'm curious of what the future holds for the one of this time." Chrom agreed.
"At least we won't have to worry about a future of despair and death. For now." a pair of footsteps clacked up towards the royals.
"Robin! It's great to see you again!" Chrom gave his old friend a hug.
"It's great to be here. Lady Olivia..." the tactician gave a small curtesy to the Queen.
"Oh there's no need for formalities..." Olivia blushed. "On the inside, I'm still Olivia!"
"Yes you are. Anyway, it's great to see you two and your kids are doing well. Ylisse has recovered well from it's previous rough patches." Robin shuddered and remembered the terrible face of Grima, the Fell Dragon. Her other self. His terrorism had caused much grief among the haildom, but thanks to the arrival of a future Lucina and other children of the Shepherds, they had prevented apocalypse.
"You know Robin, you're not too far off from the future yourself." Chrom chuckled. Robin couldn't forget the news they had recently recieved. Gaius was absolutely overjoyed when he heard about her pregnancy. He had picked her up, swung her round, then remembered their unborn child and put her down. Of course, they already knew what they were going to name him.
Morgan. After all, they had met him before.
"I honestly can't wait. Now that our future has been fixed, I can look forward to it." Robin's eyes shone with excitement.
"We feel the same way. Inigo and Lucina are going to grow up happy and unafraid. I-I can promise that." Olivia gave a determined nod.
"So Robin, did you just come to chat? Because if so, maybe sit down in the library and we can invite Gaius-"
"Sorry Chrom. But I've actually come here on a serious matter." Robin withdrew a letter from her pocket.
"Oh wow... when I thought we'd get a little peace..." Olivia sighed.
"It's OK, it's OK. I'll read it. Probably just enquiries about the trade market." Chrom took the letter from Robin, put down Lucina, and ripped it open.
"How's the little hero-princess?" Robin bent down and made a silly face at Lucina.
"I gon' save da wurld!" Lucina giggled and ran around yelling "Herwo herwo herwo!" like a lunatic. A cute lunatic.
She's not very different from the future Lucina... Robin pondered. Will little Morgan be like the future one since we defeated Grima?
Chrom had gone silent as he read the letter.
"Chrom?" Olivia knitted her eyebrows with anxiety.
"It's... it's real?!"
"What is?" Robin stepped up towards Chrom.
"The mythical kingdom of Hoshido... they... they need our help..." Chrom's eyes were wide with amazement.
"With what?" Olivia blinked.
"The kingdom of Nohr conquered them long ago... Queen Hinoka has had enough of their rule. She may be the queen of Hoshido now, but mainly King Xander of Nohr makes their decisions in terms of politics. Her and Princess Sakura decide it's time to take back what's there's. They share similar peaceful ideas with Ylisse. Nohr search for glory." Chrom read out Hinoka's letter.
Dear King Chrom, Exalt Of Ylisse.
After our last war, Hoshido was at the mercy of the Nohrian scums (Pardon my language) that took our throne. Our freedom. Our peace. They killed so many of our people, including my brothers Prince Ryoma and Prince Takumi. My sister, Princess Corrin, betrayed us and fought alongside Nohr, where she married and settled. As her blood siblings, we were all heartbroken and tried to persuade her back. But she continued to lead Nohr to slaughter us. Even a Nohrian princess raised as one of us, Azura, left. We would be so grateful if you could aid us in an earlier resistance we are trying to resurrect. Ylisse has been known to deal with many threats successfully, and we share ideals of peace. Hoshido has had enough from Nohr exploiting our resources and even the practice of torture on us. We have suffered enough injustice and we wish to put an end to it. The only way we can bring peace to our struggling people is to stop the dark that resides in our light. I humbly enquire as a fellow monarch that we could seek your alliance.
Yours sincerely,
Queen Hinoka of Hoshido.
"Chrom, she seems like she's in dire need. Maybe we should go. But what about the kids?" Olivia fingered Inigo's little bundle.
"I'll get their favorite babysitter-"
"Henry is not minding the children!" Olivia cut him off.
