Chapter 22: New day, New problems
You yawned and stretched your arms as you woke up. With weary eyes, you turned to look at the clock and noticed the time. 3:38 pm. Having decided it was time to get up, you walked down the stairs towards the kitchen for something to eat. There was a note on the fridge and you could tell it was from your mom, because who else would it be from?
I left your lunch in the fridge, warm it up, I'll be home by 6, Love you!
You lazily opened the fridge and put your plate in the microwave and waited impatiently for it to finish heating up.
It was a pretty chill day, just watching Netflix and maybe practicing your quirk once or twice. Soon enough you heard your mom opening the door and walked in with some grocery bags at hand.
"Welcome home." You called out. Your mom looked at you somewhat confused as to why you would greet her like that which made you realize you were still using the Japanese customs.
"I can tell you've gotten used to living over there." Your mom chuckled. "I'm home~" She added. You smiled and walked over to her to help her out with the bags. She brought some snacks, so you two decided to watch a few movies before you went back to bed.
And the next day...
Well, it wasn't the most fun being the new kid, especially with your background.
"We have a new student." Your homeroom teacher signaled you to come in and you were about to introduce yourself but then shut yourself up remembering that you weren't supposed to do that here.
"This is Y/n Lewis. You can sit over there." And with that, you made your way, thankfully, towards the back. No one took interest in you so the class went on and you took out your notebook and started writing down everything.
At first, It was just normal classes, nothing special.
Then you had hero training but it turned out to be more like going to military school.
#1 Hero school my ass. You let out a sigh.
Of course you would think that.
You sat up straight, shocked to hear a voice in your head. You looked around and noticed a guy near the front of the class gives you a side glance.
Get out of my head, idiot. Your words came out like a warning.
Or what? You'll use your Quirk to put me in my place?
You glared at the guy and you were about to use your very colorful language but your thoughts were interrupted when you heard the bell ring.
Great, Lunch.
You packed your things and made your way to the door until you felt someone tap your shoulder. You turned around and it was a girl, she had long copper-colored hair and she looked pretty shy. Her round face somewhat reminded you of Ochaco.
"U-Um...I just wanted to say hi. My names Claire" You blinked a few times but then gave her your full attention.
"My names Y/n." You bowed slightly but then you felt embarrassed about still using Japanese customs. Claire giggled a bit and you felt yourself sink in embarrassment. She took notice and started to wave her hands frantically in front of herself.
"S-Sorry! I didn't mean to laugh at you, I just thought it was cute what you just did." She scratched the back of her head. "Do you want to join me for lunch?" She asked awkwardly. You felt relieved knowing that there were still a few good people in your classroom.
"Sure thing!" Claire is a sweet girl, she talked to you about how the school works and a few things about herself like her quirk: Quirk Enhancement, which you thought was awesome!
You finished up your lunch quickly and on your way back to class with Claire you gave Izuku a quick call but he didn't answer.
Guess they're still training. Maybe I'll give Todoroki a call instead.
Are you worried about your boyfriend?
You whipped your head around and noticed that guy from before smirking at you.
What's it to you egghead?
You turned around and tried to distract yourself from him.
You know I still don't know why they let you in this school, well, when you've got connections-
You cut off his though when you teleported in front of him, with a hard glare that could kill, might I add. He was surprised and came to an abrupt stop.
"You wanna say that to my face pretty boy?" You dared. You caught the attention of some people walking by but you didn't care. You could see him physically gulp as his eyes darted around the room. "I thought so." You then turned and walked away.
It was the first day and although you did get to make a new friend you noticed in your schedule that you even had classes on Saturday??
You let out a groan as you exited the school, Claire had a club meeting or something like that so it was just you, or at least that's what you thought. Literally.
Aww, already tired of your first day?
You felt your patience slowly slip away from hearing this guys voice in your head again.
I swear the moment you step out of school grounds I'll beat you to a pulp.
That doesn't sound very hero-like. He snickered.
"Who said I wanted to be a hero?" You turned around to look at him dead in the eyes and he came to a stop. "Just go away, you idiot." You huffed in annoyance and gripped your bookbag as you started to walk away.
"First of all, my name is Mark, and second of all, WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN YOU DON'T WANNA BE A HERO!" You were seriously getting pissed off and just kept walking away.
"Why are you so keen on pissing me off! What you've got a crush on me or something?!" You shouted back.
"No way in hell I'd like a girl who goes to the best hero school in America and doesn't even like it cause it's 'not like the one in Japan' and on top of that you don't even want to be a hero?! Why the hell are you even here!" You turned to him, at your limit, you had your eyes shut from not wanting to use your Quirk on him and shouted.
"I DIDN'T EVEN WANT TO BE HERE!" You then decided to teleport home and you were thankful you were back in your cozy bed.
Idiot...
Thankfully you could control your quirk better and the distance from the school to your house wasn't too far. You laid on your bed and turned over to look at your phone.
Maybe now I can call Izuku or maybe Todoroki? Now that I think about it, I've never actually called Todoroki before... You looked at the time and it was 3:26 pm.
Damn, it's too early over there. You sighed for the hundredth time today. You tossed your phone aside and just laid there.
I'll just go make a snack or something-
"Hello?" You heard a voice suddenly in your room. You sat up and looked around.
Huh?
"Y/n?" You turned towards your phone and felt your blood run cold. You dialed Todoroki's number by accident. You scrambled for your phone and took it in your hands.
"Hey! Sorry about that, I called you by accident, I didn't mean to disturb you!" You whisper yelled knowing that he was probably still in bed or something. You could hear shuffling and a soft yawn on the other end and felt worse.
"It's no problem. All things considering, It's good to get some fresh air anyway." He tried to assure you that it wasn't a big deal.
"Sorry..." You couldn't help but apologize again. Even if Todoroki was sleepy, he noticed there was a bit of a change in your tone.
"Is...everything okay?" He asked. You chuckled sadly, remembering what a day you had.
"Yeah, I just had an...Interesting day." You sighed and flopped on your back and fell on your fluffy sheets.
"Right, you started school? What's it like?" He asked trying to make conversation.
"It's nothing like UA." It was Todoroki's turn, a low chuckle vibrated through to your end of the call.
"How so?" His words came out with a faint dullness that escaped you.
"Well, it's like I'm in boot camp and I've even got extra hero classes on Saturdays," Todoroki raised his eyebrows.
"Really?"
"Yeah, but I also made a friend, she's really sweet and shy and then ugh, there was this annoying guy with his stupid quirk." You complained remembering how ridiculous and completely obnoxious Mark was being.
"Did he do anything to you?" Todoroki asked, concern in his tone.
"His quirk is mind reading and he's annoying as hell!" You let out a groan. You could hear Todoroki laughing on the other line to your surprise. "Oh, sorry, I've only been ranting and complaining about my day to you, how have you been?"
"It's no problem, I think I really needed that." He rubbed his eyes and didn't notice that he was speaking pretty honestly at the moment. "It's been- we were training in the morning, but then at night..." He paused for a moment and you got curious.
"What happened, Todo?"
"We were ambushed by the League of Villains..." You felt the blood drain from your face.
"What?? H-How! Wasn't that place supposed to be super safe or something?!"
"It was, but somehow they got through."
"Are you okay??" Your voice sounded more panicked than you intended. It was quiet on the other line. Todoroki was replaying the events that occurred, so many people were injured and more were critical at the hospital. Then there was- "Todo?" He didn't answer for a while and you thought he had fallen asleep.
"Oh, Yeah. I'm fine, a bit scratched up, but I'm okay. Thank you for asking." He let out a sigh. "But Bakugou, he was, he was taken by the League." He had to tell you. You were going to find out tomorrow on the news anyways, but he decided it was best you heard it from someone you knew.
"What?! Why would they take him? Him of all people?!" You thought back to the encounter with Tomura.
It was supposed to be Izuku, and me...
"We're not sure either. They're closing up the camp and we're heading back in the morning."
"How's Izuku?" You asked knowing how reckless he might have been in this situation.
"He was taken to the hospital, he broke both of his arms." Your heart dropped.
"Wha- Is he, Is he gonna be okay?" You stuttered.
"From what the doctor told us, he's going to be fine, but he might have some permanent damage." You felt your eyes well up.
"I should have been there to help..." You muttered. You may not want to be a Hero but you did want to help your friends if they were in need.
"No." You were shocked to hear Todoroki's response. "It's good you weren't here, I don't think you should be in that kind of danger." You didn't know if he was being considerate or underestimating your abilities, but either way, you still felt like you could have helped. Your lower lip trembled at the thought of what your classmates were put through and what they're enduring. You sank back into the corner, taking up the least space possible on the bed and held on tightly to the device in hand.
"Right..." You then looked back at the time and you thought it would be best to let him sleep. "Well, I shouldn't keep you up. You should rest, you've had a long day..."
"Yeah, you get some rest too, Y/n." His voice was soft and tired.
"Sorry I kept you up. If you see Izuku, tell him I say hi please, Goodnight."
"Okay. Goodnight, Y/n." And with that, you hung up. You laid your phone aside and brought your knees up to your chest.
Maybe I do belong here...
