Chapter 1

It was a cloudy night. Strong winds were blowing, indicating an upcoming storm. A huge black wolf was sitting on the cliff, tears running down its furry cheeks. It howled in pain in the night but no one howled back. It had lost its mate in the war between two werewolf packs. The wolf's pack had won but the wolf lost his everything. It had nothing when it first met its mate. But its mate gave it the reason to live on. Now that its mate was gone, who should it live for? Why should it live? It looked down the cliff and decided to end its miserable existence and finally be together with its mate, at least in the afterlife. It was about to lunge forward to lose itself in the black abyss when it heard a whimpering sound coming from behind the bushes. The wolf turned towards the sound and cautiously approached the bushes. It peered inside and found another black wolf lying there with its eyes closed. It was wounded as the smell of blood was prominent in the air. It approached the other wolf and nudged it with its snout. The second wolf just whimpered without opening its eyes. The first wolf shifted. Now instead of a wolf, there stood a well-built man. He crouched down in front of the other wolf and searched for its wound. The wolf had numerous wounds that were healing slowly. The man frowned. He put his hand on each and every wound. An orange glow emitted from his hand which healed the wounds. Once he was done, he was about to get up and leave when the other wolf shifted too, revealing a beautiful, young boy. The boy opened his eyes a little and saw a silhouette of a person sitting beside him. As it was dark, he could not make out the features of the person in front of him which caused the boy to tremble in fear. What if his assaulter had finally caught up to him? He tried to back up, to save himself from the pain he was sure was about to come but his overworked limbs refused to cooperate with him. He was about to go into a panic attack when his nose picked up an unfamiliar yet calming lemony scent of orchids.

The scent caused the boy to calm down a little before losing his conciousness. The next time the boy opened his eyes, he was in the healing ward of his pack. He looked around and sniffed the air for that faint scent but it was not there. He sighed and closed his eyes once again and drifted back to sleep that was filled with nightmares.

Five years later:

It was summer morning. The blue sky was decorated with scattered white clouds. Birds were flying about, chirping happily. Butterflies were flying from flower to flower. The buzz of honey bees filled the air. A twenty three year old young man was going grocery shopping with his sister, who looked about one year older than the guy. She was talking while signing animatedly about the horror movie they watched last night while the man just nodded. As they entered the shopping mall, the woman hooked her arms in the man's arms and made a beeline to the grocery section.

"So, what are we buying?," the girl signed.

The man handed her the list. She went from section to section picking the items they needed from the shelf and putting them in the trolley that the man was pushing. As the woman reached the end of the list, she frowned. She turned to look at the man and asked, "Why are there no snacks on this list?"

The guy shrugged.

"Aatish," the girl whined. But Aatish paid her no mind and kept on walking forward towards the counter. The woman huffed and ran to the snacks section, grabbed a bunch of snacks and rushed to where Aatish was standing in the line waiting to be checked out. When it was Aatish's turn, the woman dumped all the snack on the counter and said, "Pack these too."

The fifty year old man who looked to be of thirty and whose batch said Drishya, looked at the snacks then at Aatish and the woman, bemused.

Drishya sighed and started to beep the items.

"Aashima, these snacks are not healthy for you, you know," he stated causing Aashima to roll her eyes.

"And you, working in your condition is not good for your and the baby's health, Dad," Aashima retorted pointing at Drishya's protruding stomach.

Drishya rolled his eyes at his daughter and looked at his son who looked bored as hell.

"How are you, baby?," he signed.

"I am fine. Shouldn't you be resting? And where is Papa? Shouldn't he be here with you?," Aatish signed back.

"He is busy with the pack," Drishya signed as he checked them out. They paid and as they were about to leave, their dad's voice rang out, "You guys are coming home for dinner tonight. I want you all there at 6 p.m. sharp."

The siblings nodded before leaving. As they reached their home, they were welcomed by a small, petite twenty four year old woman who raised on her tip toes to kiss Aashima on her lips.

"Welcome home, love," the woman greeted.

"I am home, Nisha," Aashima greeted back before kissing her mate once again.

Aatish rolled his eyes at the lovey-dovey couple and pushed them aside before entering his home that was now occupied by his sister and her wife. He made his way to the kitchen and put down the grocery bags on the kitchen counter before taking out the items and putting them away. Aashima and Nisha followed him to the kitchen and helped him put away the groceries.

The house that the trio were living in was a one storeyed building and it had five bedrooms. There was a huge, spacious living room in the middle. The master bedroom that Aatish occupied was towards the right of the living room. The other master bedroom that was occupied by Aashima and Nisha was on the left, the rest of the three bedroom were situated beside their room. A little down the hallway, on the right, was the kitchen that overlooked the dining room. The kitchen was also quite spacious though it was the smallest room in the whole house. The dining room was decent sized. It could easily fit up to ten people. On the left of the hallway, was the main bathroom while each master bedroom had their attached bathroom. They also had attached verandas. The entire home was painted white except for the master bedrooms that were painted grey. Each room had their own house plants and the walls were decorated with family portraits or picture of beautiful landscapes. There was a front yard and the house was surrounded by concrete walls.

Once the trio were done, they went to the living room and sat down on the couch watching an American series on the television. The entire day went by peacefully with them being busy with their work. Soon it was 5:45 p.m. The siblings and Nisha got ready and left to go to their parents or in Nisha's case, her in-laws, home.

The trio were now standing in front of another one storeyed house that was just across the street. In the front yard of the house, was the garden that was decorated with different types of flowering plants, trees and climbers. In the backyard, there was a huge swimming pool. The house was surrounded by tall concrete walls so that it was impossible to peek in.

Aashima rang the doorbell. Their father, Abhay Khanna, a fifty five year old man who looked to be of thirty one, answered the door.

"Welcome home, my prince and princesses," Abhay said, bowing down in a dramatic way.

"Thank you, my king," answered Aashima and Nisha, both of them bowing as well.

Aatish shook his head at his family's dramatics and walked inside. Once he was in the living room, he found his dad sitting on the couch sipping tea. He went and sat down beside him, hugging him gently. Drishya returned the hug. The other's entered as well. Abhay sat down on the other side of his husband while Aashima and her wife sat down in the two adjacent sofa chairs.

The house in which Aatish and Aashima's parents lived was similar to theirs. The only difference being the colour of the walls which was orange. The bedrooms, on the other hand, were white. Also there were no veranda. Instead there was a front porch. The family was the member of the Wolfhound pack.

The Wolfhound pack was a huge pack and the strongest pack in India. Their alpha, Abhay Khanna, a tall and muscular wolf with round eyes, long nose, thick eyebrows and oval shaped face, and Luna or omega, Drishya Khanna, a short and petite wolf with narrow eyes, button nose, thin eyebrows and cute round face, ruled the pack with iron fist. It was one of the few packs that treated their alphas, betas and omegas equally. Everyone was free to do whatever they wanted as long as it did not hurt the others. And if someone hurt anyone in any way, the punishment would be cruel, the most cruelest form of punishment being publicly tearing the offender's limbs apart while keeping them alive and concious. It was reserved for the most serious crime, i.e., rape. Everyone in the pack respected as well as loved Abhay and Drishya.

The heir of the pack was Aashima, the sweetest as well as cruelest alpha in the pack. She had long black hair, brown round eyes, thin lips, a button nose and round face. She was tall and petite. At first glance, she looked harmless until you hurt her family or pack. She was married and mated to a beautiful omega, Nisha, a brunette haired girl with black, hooded eyes, thick plumpy lips, long nose and narrow face. She was a force to reckon with despite her small stature.

Aatish was the second child of the Khannas. He was an alpha too. He was a well-built, tall and muscular guy with medium black hair, brown, round eyes, plump red lips, roman nose and diamond shaped face. He was strong and fast. But he had one downside. He was deaf. He was not born deaf. But an accident at the age of ten deteriorated his hearing and slowly he became completely deaf. But that did not stop him. He worked extra hard than others and now was one of the best tracker and fighter in their pack and his sense of smell was much more heightened than the other werewolves.
The werewolves just like the vampires were immortals and lived in harmony with humans, witches and other creatures. The betas were normal warriors. The alphas and omegas, on the other hand, were special creatures who owned different types of powers. Drishya could see future while Abhay was an Empath who could control people's emotions. Nisha could control wind and Aashima was a telepath. Aatish was a special case. He was an Empath and he could see future as well. He could also control fire and water.

The most common pairing among the werewolves was that of alpha-omega and beta-beta. Alpha-alpha pairing, omega-omega pairing, and beta-omega pairing were rare but still there. The alpha-beta pairing, on the other hand, was unheard of. If an alpha and beta did fall in love, they could not become pair because, firstly, betas had no scent glands and all alphas had soulmates.

This was the life of the werewolves. The alphas would find their soulmates, their omegas, at the age of seventeen. They would fall in love, have kids and lead their life with pride. Well, most werewolves except for Aatish, who at twenty three, was still mateless. He knew his mate was out there somewhere. But would they accept him? A weak, broken, wounded and deaf alpha.
