Chapter 8

Slowly Olivia's dream was slipping away from her. She was uncontrollably escaping her sweet dreamland filled with honey and milk that turned bitter and stronger with her emotions. It brought about the sad memory of her mother's elopement twenty-four hours ago and it massively tore her apart. She was not as tough as she seemed outside. Olivia thought of herself as a small fluffy ball that can sometimes feel cute but when swamped in water it looks and feels completely different. She felt like a load of junk and burden most of the time. Not once in her dream did she recall herself walking into the mansion one last time. All that covered her mind was her room back in the flat and having to clean up after her mother and Liberty.

There is something about the human mind that compels one to prefer living in a fantasy or dream to the scary and mentally exhausting reality. Reality is like the kitchen chair that you keep bumping into every time you run to grab a quick snack. Reality just smacks you back in the face like you were the one who did something wrong. Nonetheless these small events prepare us for the worst that can be brought forth by life. Olivia's bumps taught her how to be patient with her mother and to force herself to love her despite her gaudy behavior.

Short and sweet echoes of conversations resounded a short distance away from the couch she slept on. She dragged herself up and pulled her clothes to the right proportions and walked herself to join their company. The cook was serving salads and chicken with seasoning. It must have been the savory aroma that resurrected her back to the land of the living. The cook was very young and tall with a good figure and a graceful neck. Her skin was soft and lighter than both Carrie and Toby.

Just as we dug in, the cook knocked off. She must have sensed the tension between Olivia and Carrie that just made her uncomfortable too. Olivia could not handle her nerves well. She preferred to speak her mind than to curl up her feelings inside and act like she was not bothered. Shockingly she did not speak her mind this time. Neither was she at school nor at home anymore where her little confidence came to her rescue. She was in a different world where you can only speak to raise a serious argument or introducing a mentally cooling conversation. If you were terrible at doing both, one kept their peace and sat uneasily staring at the utensils dressing the kitchen.

Toby and Carrie both had their eyes glued to their phones. From a distance Olivia peeped onto Callie's phone and noticed people dancing and joking around on TikTok. Her mood seemed elevated and uplifted so much that her foot tapped rhythmically to the beats. Her phone's quality left Olivia dumbstruck. She had never laid her eyes on a beautiful gadget like that. Taking a quick glance on to Toby's phone, Olivia could not help but feel a short tingle run down her spine. Her eyes had fallen onto the wrong point.

His tattoos were large and very artistic.  One looked as though it was a wing coming out above on his collarbone.  Not only did they bring out the athletic body he had but they also complimented the look and style he presented of himself. He was a very smart and simple guy fashion-wise. Despite his popularity in sports, people found him very straightforwardly attractive and intimidating. Each gesture he had from his hair down to his boots added on to his looks. Olivia's eyes took a trip analyzing for anything wrong that this guy possessed and obviously got caught. She was easy to read. He shifted his small attention from Olivia and talked to Carrie. Olivia grabbed the opportunity and looked at his phone and saw a calendar displayed and shifted her attention back to her food.

''Carrie approximately how many people have you invited? I need to know before I place the orders,'' he said interrupting her TikTok surfing.

''About fifteen or less. You sure that she won't tell mom and dad?'' she asked with a bit of an attitude. It was not like Olivia could not hear them talking. Of course Olivia did not care about Carrie patronizing her. She was used to people treating her in that manner.

''Would you mind if we threw a small swimming-pool party tomorrow Liv?'' he asked staring her straight in the eye.

''Why are you asking for her permission bro? She doesn't live here. Treat her like the title she has,'' said Carrie eye-rolling condescendingly.

''I don't want to lose this job.''

''You won't,'' said Toby without caring much and returned to his phone too. He had gotten the answer he wanted to hear.

Olivia was too scared to remove her phone in front of them, instead she excused herself to her room to take Toby's medication. Up and down the stairs she went, not worried about anything at least. She helped him take them and left the both of them alone. Just at the door of her room-

''What happened to texting and calling Olivia. I have been so worried about you. I tried calling at your house! Are you alright?'' he concernedly asked. Jayden was like the brother she never had.

''I'm so sorry its just that so much has happened and we haven't had time to ourselves lately. I'm sorry Jay!'' she said apologizing sincerely.

''It's okay. Olivia I don't have that much airtime but I wanted to ask you something.''

''Shoot.''

''You were invited to Toby Davis's party tomorrow right?''

''Long story. You wanna go?''

''Yes!'' Jayden laughs sarcastically, ''I've already receive the address anonymously!''

''I will see you there, then we will have to talk about you and Reign.''

''Love you. Sorry I am so broke we'll talk tomorrow. Bye!''

I guess news about the Davis travels fast! She returned the medication back to its set and took the laptop that was already connected to the internet and updated her blog and started typing gibberish on Microsoft word. She was not exhausted at all and slept at exactly 0630hrs the following day.
