Chapter 30
That Saturday
They were both too overdressed and over-accessorized for this day to be just about the return of the ring. Willy had unplaited Olivia's hair and combed it to tied a big natural bun. There were so many things Toby did not feel his best in. First his blue t-shirt and the expensive Rolex he immediately took off. He was not going to impress Olivia with his cash. He usually did so with his former girlfriends. He wanted to be himself tonight.
She greeted him with a slight bow for no reason and Toby sneakingly smelt her hair as she took her seat. It had the scent of watermelons. He felt that feeling again. The anxiousness of the results of the night dig deeper into the pit of his stomach. This was his final goodbye to her.
"Good evening sir, ma'am. What will you have tonight?"
They both said, "Grilled chicken and chips."
"Excellent," said the waiter and left them be on their own.
"So you recall anything?" asks Toby hoping she remembers the good part about the first time they ate together.
"Our first date? Sorry, the first time we ate together you- I mean."
"It was our first date."
After a short while the waiter came back with two plates each with their desired order. He swapped his plate with hers and looked at her soon after his actions, slowly remembering they that they were not together anymore.
"I'm sorry. I saw the green paper in the salad and I know you love it and it wasn't in your plate so gave you-"
"Toby its okay just stop talking." They both laughed at his silliness and enjoyed their meal without passing a single word to each other. After the short dinner Toby said,
"Olivia I have something to tell you-"
She cut him off and explained, "If you want to apologize about Lizzy, Amanda or any other girl of some sort, I get it. We are all created differently and I do forgive you. I am still hurt but I guess your first can never be your always. Here," hands him his ring back, "I need to go home and thank you for the meal. Thank you for everything you did for me Toby."
"A hug for goodbye," he asked sweetly and walked to her with open arms. Same emotions, same passions but different state of minds.
He was sure he would never see her again. Whatever it is they had had was to an end. All that was left for Toby was to write his exams and fix his basketball career for his move to the United States of America.
Present day
"Wake up Olivia. It's a beautiful school day. Come on up, up."
"I hate you Will-mart!" bragged Olivia. She was done with school already and did not see the need to go to that hellhole again.
"Guess who's driving today? You dummy, wake up before I take away your remote privileges."
"Fine!" she replied running to the bathroom and all rounder getting ready for school.
30 minutes later
"Olivia get out right now!"
"Can't find the car keys. Found them!" she shouted happily and rearranged the pillows on the couch and ran outside, locking the door behind her. Starstruck she stands, facing a beautiful man.
"What are you doing here?" she asks.
"We'll be in the car. Laura," they both get into the car in the driveway and wait and watch impatiently the conversation taking place through the review mirror.
"I don't have time but since mom said I should fix my shit, I'm here. I'm here to tell you that I love you and I want to be with you. Tomorrow I leave with my sister to reside in the States forever with my parents and I want you to go with us."
"With your actual parents?"
"Yes. I wanted to tell you that day on our final breaking up day what had happened between us and my parents. They want us back and I really want you to come with. No pressure. I can see you are about to leave, so here is the airplane ticket. I will wait for you." He planted a slow and passionate kiss on her lips and held her hand with great affection and walked away after dropping a few tears in case this was their last time seeing each other.
"Shit!" she cursed and went into the car.
