Chapter 3

Olivia had a talent. She could see things beyond what they appeared to be. Her eye and taste were rare and exquisite. Her feelings confused her for she could at one moment feel like a soft breeze on a hot and long summer afternoon. Short and relieving. Then on another especially on bad days, she would feel exhausted by her lack of fortune and beauty. She wanted money for maybe the wrong reasons and needed it to better her life.

''Maybe later and not now,'' she thought making her way back to school now without Laura or the mechanic and the nurse.

It was now full of men in uniforms, some miners, and some security guards. Probably going to work for their night shifts. They all struggled to exit at different stops, oozing their thin bodies past each other and later successfully going out the door. Some men with good humor laughed their hearts out when some struggled way more than necessary.

Olivia had changed her uniform into her black jeans and t-shirt and carried her denim jacket along with her just in case there was a sudden change in the weather. Her shoes, vans, were worn out and almost useless. Overall her look was not that bad just not of the best quality and class considering the fact that the event was more of classy than regular.

She got off the bus at the last stop, being the only passenger on board. Happy she was not but hungry she definitely was. There was no food at home, her mother had lost most of her salary from last month to alcohol and spending it on Liberty's necessities that were more relevant than her own daughter's. Olivia was planning on stealing her mother's money tomorrow before she wasted the least remaining. Stealing her mother's money was the only way she could manage the expenses at home. Rent, water, electricity bills, and her monthly installments for her fees.

From afar one could hear the loud music. It was smooth and entertaining to anyone who met the harmony to it. And the reflection of the party lights could be seen on the empty sky. It beautifully shimmered from the outside attracting one to look within the party or maybe invite their own selves in. Olivia entered the school compound using the small gate from the east. She could not use the bigger gate because of the many private, third-class, and luxurious cars dropping off models and some parking in different parking spots.

Everyone was just dressed spectacularly to the expected standard. Smart, beautiful, and carefree. Whereas Olivia was there for detention. She was so frustrated when she passed the glimpse of heaven spangling at the carpark before the zebra crossing line. It was the place where they took pictures before entering the grounds for the event. She wanted to be part of the heavens for a second but dismissed the idea when a prefect in a blue upstyle and lacy short-sleeved dress and heels told her to start working at the courts that were at 78ft. long each. She had to sweep all four courts and clean the storeroom then leave or join the party if she wanted to.

Motorbike?

''Hello''
''Where you at?''
''Detention ma I told you that an hour ago. You drunk?''
''Who in the world do you think you are talking to? Liberty is here. Bye!''

Olivia put some music on and got down to work. First with the tennis court. She picked up all the rackets and balls left unattended. It was already dark so they switched on the lights for her. It was going to be a long night especially with all those condescending eyes on her. She wanted to smack them and move on but held it in for the songs she was going to loudly sing whilst cleaning.
