I
The sun rose from the horizon, its mild light falling upon the white curtains of the prince's room. The maid entered the room and pushed the curtains aside, letting the sunlight fall directly on the man sleeping under the sheets, making him squint his eyes. The birds were chirping. They were like an alarm for the boy. He rubbed his eyes and yawned as he sat up, hair messed up and the silk top falling off from one of his shoulders.
"Good morning to his royal highness" she spoke in a tender voice as she bowed down.
"Morning, Rose" he said in his groggy, husky voice as he got up from the bed.
He noticed the maid smiling a panicky smile which confused him.
"What are you on about, Rose?" he asked as he drank his water from the metal cup kept on the bed-stand.
"Sire, you do realize what day it is today, right?" Rose asked in a hesitant voice, not wanting to anger the prince.
Her words made the coal haired male slip into a daze, trying to figure out what day it was today.
And as soon as he recalled upon, the cup from his hand slipped on the fur carpet, wetting it and splotching the ends of his pajamas.
"Rose, is it that day?" he asked, his voice no longer filled with sleep.
"Yes, your highness" Rose said in an awkward manner
The 25 year old, prince was standing in front of his maid, with horrified expressions over his face, and before he could make another statement, the wooden door burst open.
Rose gasped as she quickly bowed down.
It was The Majesty and His Grace.
The woman standing in her most luxurious gown, gasped as she looked at the state of her son.
She rushed to him and cupped his puffy face.
"Dear lord, why aren't you ready, my child?!" she asked in a surprised tone, because of course, she thought she would get to see her son all dressed up in royal clothes, happily ready to be getting married.
"I-I just woke up" the man couldn't help but stutter because he was still trying to process the current happenings.
The Queen turned towards Rose as her expressions turned from shocked to annoy.
"And my dear Rose, I thought I assigned you with the task to get his highness ready for the biggest day of his life, didn't I? Then why are you standing here like a giraffe?" she chided. It was a given. She didn't want anything to be imperfect, especially today.
Rose hurriedly bowed down as she spoke in a panicked manner.
"Forgive me, your grace. I was about to get his highness to dress up when you appeared"
"Whatever. Please get his highness ready as soon as possible. There are a lot of things that are to be done downstairs and I don't want His and Her Majesty of Kingsland to feel we are lacking in any aspect. The wedding has to be grand!" she chirped up at the thought of seeing her son getting married and inheriting the throne. Because as a mother, this was the only thing she wanted the most to happen.
She looked at her son and gave him a soft smile, cupping his cheeks once again.
"Son, I am so proud of you. You are going to be taking the throne after your father today. You are going to become a great King, just like your father. And your Queen, your Queen is the prettiest woman in the whole world. You two will handle the kingdom really well. I am sure of it" she said with love lacing her voice.
All the man could do was smile and smile. This might not be a thing that he wanted to do, but when you are a royalty, your want is just merely a personal possession. The irony is that something like freedom doesn't exist in this huge kingdom where there is an expansive garden within every mile or a big community hall where you could do whatever you want.
The Queen adjusted her mantle and walked towards the King, preparing to leave. She glanced at her son one more time and said
"I am looking up to you, his Highness" she said and left with the King after seeing her son bow his head down to her.
Rose quickly got her master ready for his big day and smiled at him.
"You look very handsome, your highness" she said as she placed the crown over his soft charcoal hair.
He stood up as he stared at himself in the mirror.
"Who would have thought I would do something like this" he sighed as he dragged his long mantle after him, walking downstairs where all the preparations for his wedding were being done.
Everyone looked at him and gasped before bowing down.
He quickly walked towards his mother who was pacing towards him, herself.
"Dear Son! Oh Lord! You look utterly handsome!" she said, sniffling her tears back.
His father reached up to him with a smile on his face as he patted his back.
"You've grown to be a great man, my son"
"I appreciate your words, father" he said to his father before walking away to look at the preparations.
The wedding was in an hour, and here he was, panicking since this would be the first time he would be marrying someone and also someone he doesn't even know.
The people of the kingdom would be arriving any minute to witness this grand wedding and the passing of the crown to the prince, and he, the one who is going to be crowned, hasn't even practiced his speech.
Everything was going on silently when suddenly the door burst open and two guards came in.
"The King and Queen of Kingsland with Her Highness have arrived!" they spoke and the silence turned into a chaos. The King and Queen rushed out to greet their in-laws while the prince stayed inside to check if everything was ready.
The King and Queen entered with their guests inside, all happily chattering. The to-be Queen was taken to her room to get dressed while the Kings and Queens were having a nice chat.
This was when he realized, standing in his wedding dress, looking at his in-laws, that he is going to get married.
Maybe, this was really his fate. Marrying someone he doesn't even love, inheriting the throne after his father.
Maybe this was the fate of the prince, Kim Taehyung.
But the Bishop who just burst in through the front door didn't want Taehyung's destiny to be like this.
"Your Majesty!" he came gushing like some horrendous hurricane that was about to blow everything away.
But maybe, that is what he was about to do.
"What is it, Sire?" every royalty gathered by the bishop's side, even the prince.
"Apparently, this marriage cannot happen" he said and in a second, the room echoed with numerous gasps and everyone's head turning to look at each other.
"What?! Would you justify your statement, kind sir!" the queen exclaimed, not being able to believe what this mad man was saying. Does he wish to be beheaded?
"I am afraid it is the truth, Your Majesty. According to the marriage bureau, His Highness, Prince Taehyung....is already married" the bishop said and even the said man's eyes turned so big they would have popped out.
"What?!" Even he was surprised by the information he just received.
Everyone whipped their heads towards the accused man. Some had a horrified expression over their face and some of anger and shock, like his parents.
His mother turned towards him, fire in her eyes.
"Kim Taehyung! Would you care to explain?!" she asked and he was too shocked to respond to her.
"When and who is it?" she turned towards the bishop who gulped his saliva in anxiousness.
"This was apparently when His Highness was 16 and the marriage was with....a man" he said and at this point, there was nothing more surprising that anyone present in the hall could hear after this.
"A man? Taehyung seriously? A man?" his mother was on the verge of spilling out tears, but she chose to shock herself more.
"Who is it that has chosen the path to their death?" the Majesty furiously spoke.
"The name of the man is..." the bishop flipped through the paper.
"Jeon Jungkook" he read.
After that, all everyone could hear was a huge thud.
The Queen had fallen on the ground, she had fainted by the information she just received.
Because Jeon Jungkook was none other than his Majesty's personal servant.
