Challenge #2
How does a musical character of your choice react to seeing a suicide/murder.
My entry:
Today was a seemingly normal day. Today a pale and unusually anxious boy stood into the gates of his new school, he wore a striped blue and white polo and some simple khakis to go alongside it, he was just a normal boy who was a simple as any other teenager.
But...
He was about to kill a person.
Evan looked around at the intimidatingly tall building, he instantly knew that this year would be hell. He nervously stepped away from the crowds which almost immediately flocked towards him, Evan knew that they were probably curious about him since that was how it normally went when entering new schools.
Evan just ducked his way through the wave of sweaty teenagers (he always did consider himself a master of blending in) and finally entered the building, which was surprisingly far from the gate. Evan sat down his things on a bench and practiced a breathing exercise, he needed to talk to a stranger and that was making him panic.
Once he was done with his breaths and he was calm(ish) he made his way to the reception. This was how it usually worked when moving from different schools.
"H-hey miss, I'm a new student here and I was wondering if I-I could have my timetable." He mentally facepalmed at how stupid he sounded, he took a deep breath since he was talking quickly.
"Mind repeating that again, but slower." She looked down through her librarian-like glasses on the last words. If she was trying to frighten him she should know that she did the second his timid eyes made contact with her snake-like ones.
"Uh um sure." He took a shaky breath, "I'm new to this school and I n-need my timetable." He stuttered out, slower this time.
"Name please, young man." She glared looking down at her computer, waiting for him to tell her. Evan contemplated telling her but very quickly gave into her expectant look which sent chills down his spine.
"Evan... Hansen" he stumbled, "Evan Hansen."
She looked up and almost instantly her face paled, her eyes were no longer venomous but wide and fear-stricken, if Evan looked hard enough at her deteriorated hands he could almost see her lumpy veins moving.
"Miss, are you alright?" He asked, her panic rubbing off on himself. "Miss?" He asked, his voice shaking once again, but now he was ultimately more scared.
"Oh, oh my... I think I'm gonna..." and with that her face slammed into the side of the desk. Evan couldn't see anything but red.
Red.
Red.
Red.
He took a step back, shaking his heads and closing his eyes. "Everything's alright; I'm okay. This is a hallucination, it has to be." He whispered to himself. He looked out of the windows of the building and saw all of the students outside with their friends, More than likely enjoying the summer day.
Her body couldn't be seen from out their but in here it was all Evan could see.
So Evan didn't exactly commit homoside but would he be seen as innocent in his own eyes? No.
He was a monster.
And he had just killed a person.
Well I look forward to seeing your entries! Please make sure to @ me in your creation so I can find it! Do attempt it pllleeeaasssseeee! Thank you my SquaT!
Inspiration:
This was heavily inspired by the novel "The Ruby In The Smoke" by the author, Phillip Pullman! It definitely doesn't even compare but I really do love everything about the fiction, from its mystery genre to the romance! One of my favourite people to read has to be Rosa (a characters sister) because she is so much like me. This novel takes place in Victorian England and follows the journey of Sally (Veronica) Lockhart who is on a mission to save her life and figure out her past through diaries, opium addicts and more! If you ever get a chance to read it I would recommend it since it's an exciting read which kept me on the edge, I haven't even finished it yet but I'm hooked!
