I messed up

If there was one thing (Y/n) hated the most it was her period, and she had to deal with it every month; sure, the liquid painkiller she took whenever she began to have cramps made the pain go away in under ten minutes, but she still had to deal with all of the unpleasant symptoms a week or so before it started and then during the time she bled as well. She had her period every month and Sendak took care of her each time it came, the young woman was very grateful to have such a sensitive, caring boyfriend. It was a miracle that they hadn't gotten down and dirty yet after any of (Y/n's) periods; they'd come close a couple of times, unfortunately before they could go all the way one of them would be needed for something. Sendak and (Y/n) would eventually get around to having sex when the time came, but during that moment in particular (Y/n) was having a miserable second day of her period. She was still in some pain until she took the prescribed amount of liquid painkiller and she felt particularly sensitive and emotional that day, which was pretty normal.

(Y/n) and Sendak still had their separate bedrooms since their relationship was still new and they didn't want to rush through it, although during her period he usually slept in her bed with her, unfortunately when she woke up that morning her boyfriend was nowhere to be seen. Earlier Sendak had been needed to help with something in the nearest town; he thought it would be easy, but it wasn’t and by the time he returned to the palace he was in a bad mood after a few annoying bystanders got on his nerves. Usually he would have taken his frustration out on the punching bag in the training room or sparred with Vrul, but before he could do that he wanted to briefly check in on (Y/n) to make sure that she was alright. During her boyfriend's absence (Y/n) felt lonely without him and the more she'd thought about how much she missed Sendak, the more depressed she felt until she started to cry. On any other day Sendak would have been more sympathetic and caring, but the sound of (Y/n's) crying got on his nerves a little.

“Why are you crying?” Sendak asked (Y/n) when he entered her bedroom since her door was cracked open, speaking with a neutral tone so as not to seem angry, even though he wasn't angry at her.

“I missed you today. And- and I feel fat and my face is ugly right now.” (Y/n) wept, wiping her face before she looked up at Sendak, even though she still had stuff coming out of her nose due to all the crying she'd done.

“What are you talking about? You're not fat or ugly, you're only bloated because of your period. You have no reason to cry.” Sendak responded firmly, pinning his ears back a little in annoyance.

“Why are you talking to me like that?” (Y/n) inquired with confusion, sniffling quietly as she tried to stop crying; she wasn't expecting Sendak to speak to her so firmly, which it was highly unusual for him to speak to anyone that way unless something or someone pissed him off.

“Talking like what? I came here to check in on you, but I can see that was a mistake. Why do you have to be so quiznaking annoying?” Sendak growled as his anger took control of him; after what happened earlier he was in a bad mood and would be until he worked off his frustration.

(Y/n) was stunned; Sendak had never spoken to her so rudely before nor had he ever growled at her like that, and because of her hormonal state she took his words personally, even though he didn't mean them. She slid off of her bed as quickly as she could and ran out of her bedroom, tears streaming down her face. Hearing Sendak talk to her the way he had definitely frightened her; (Y/n) wasn't necessarily scared of him, but he'd shaken her up and she needed to curl up somewhere she felt safe. Sendak didn't fully understand what he'd done until after (Y/n) left her bedroom, and by then it was too late for him to take his words back.

“(Y/n), I-” Sendak called out to his lover as his eyes widened when realization hit him and regret twisted in his stomach; he really wished that he'd worked through his frustration before he checked in with his girlfriend, but instead he messed up and he feared that she would be scared of him.

(Y/n) heard Sendak call out for her and the tone of his voice sounded regretful, but after the way he spoke to her she wasn't in the mood to stick around to hear what he needed to say. She decided to go to Zarkon's office because she needed someone to comfort her, and unfortunately she couldn't hide out in Kumo's room because she was away for the day. Zarkon wasn't very busy during that moment, although he was concerned about (Y/n) after she ran into his office and after he helped her calm down she told him what happened between her and Sendak. Relationships weren't perfect and sometimes one lover hurt the other without meaning to, the best thing for the couple to do was to spend a little time apart from each other. Zarkon knelt in front of the chair (Y/n) sat on, holding up a tissue box for her.

“Are you sure that Sendak didn't mean what he said?” (Y/n) sniffled, taking a tissue so she could wipe her eyes and nose.

“I'm sure. Sendak had a rough morning and he would never mean what he said, especially about you; he'll apologize to you later, I assure you.” Zarkon promised; after what (Y/n) told him he knew that Sendak didn't mean what he'd told her, and by the end of the day Sendak would make it up to her.

(Y/n) nodded, knowing deep down that Zarkon was right, and she really hoped Sendak would apologize to her later. Sendak deeply regretted calling (Y/n) annoying, especially since she was on her period and particularly vulnerable, nevertheless he needed to apologize to her before she became afraid of him; he'd dashed out of her bedroom and towards the library, hoping to find her there since it was usually quiet and comfortable. She wasn't there, unfortunately, and after searching for a while Sendak found out from Vrul that (Y/n) was with Zarkon in his office, receiving comfort from the galran emperor who had become fond of the young human woman. He was still scared of (Y/n) breaking up with him because of his burst of anger, but he knew that Zarkon would never try to steal her away from him and for that knowledge he was grateful. However, Sendak had every intention of apologizing to (Y/n) as soon as he could.

__________

A few hours after Sendak got angry he went outside and sat on a rock out in the desert, thinking very hard about how he would apologize to (Y/n). He didn't really think she was annoying and he felt sick with guilt; he was supposed to take care of her, and yet he allowed his anger to get the better of him and he'd hurt her feelings. After Zarkon finished comforting (Y/n) he sent her off to her bedroom so she could rest and he had a servant bring something sweet/salty/spicy for her to eat. (Y/n) left her bedroom door cracked open as a sign that Sendak could enter when he so wished, but when he didn't show up within half an hour she wondered if he would come to apologize at all. Sendak was nervous to talk to (Y/n) after he messed up earlier, although he didn't want to wait too long to apologize and shortly after lunchtime he went to her room; the door was cracked open a little, and he spoke softly when he let himself in.

“Can we talk?” Sendak inquired when he sat on the edge of (Y/n's) bed, fully prepared to give her a heartfelt apology.

“Sure.” (Y/n) mumbled with a neutral tone, rolling onto her back so they could look at each other; she felt anxious when she looked up at her boyfriend, but she was willing to listen to what he needed to say.

“(Y/n), I- I'm sorry for calling you annoying and hurting your feelings; I didn't truly mean it and it was wrong of me to do. I deeply regret taking my anger out on you the way I did and I swear that I'll never do it again. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me. You're the love of my life and I don't know what I would do without you.” Sendak apologized wholeheartedly, lowering his ears in shame; he understood if (Y/n) didn't fully forgive him right away, and he was willing to re-earn her trust if he needed to, he just hoped that he wasn't too late to apologize.

(Y/n) averted her gaze for a moment, needing to think it over; Sendak was sincere when he apologized to her and she could hear the regret in his tone, and judging by his facial expressions during his apology he wasn't trying to lie to her. She remembered what Zarkon told her earlier about no relationship being perfect, even back when Honerva was alive they'd gotten into a few major arguments and made up with each other later. Sendak had hurt her feelings, but he didn't mean to because he wasn't in the right state of mind at the time and he really did regret doing so. Sendak just sat there, fearing for the worst because (Y/n) didn't respond right away and she'd averted her gaze. Fear and panic rose up within him because he thought she was going to break things off with him, then his ears perked up when she made eye contact with him.

“When you're in a bad mood in the future, do you promise to work that anger out before checking in on me?” (Y/n) questioned with a firm tone when she sat up and scooted over so she could sit next to her boyfriend, minding the pad so that it wouldn't slip out of position.

“I swear that it will never happen again.” Sendak answered, dead serious about trying his best not to hurt her feelings again; messing up the first time had badly frightened him because he thought (Y/n) would leave him, so the chances of it happening again were zero.

“Well… Okay, I trust you.” (Y/n) answered hesitantly at first, even though she knew he meant it, then she reached up and caressed the sides of his face as she became more cheerful.

Sendak beamed lovingly at his significant other before he leaned down and closed his eyes, a sign that he wanted to kiss and make up. He felt so much better knowing that (Y/n) wasn't angry at or scared of him, and a deep purr erupted deep within his chest when her lips met his. (Y/n) loved the idea of kissing and making up after something happened in a relationship; they didn't exactly have an argument, but their relationship would have a few bumps along the way that needed to be smoothed out, and she knew he would never hurt her feelings again, whether it be intentional or not. To make it up to his girlfriend for earlier, Sendak snuggled with her and brought her everything she needed in order to be comfortable, even her favorite drink. Later that evening, he even made a romantic dinner for two for them to eat together out in the garden.
