27. The Truth or Not The Truth

"Where were you?"

Impatiently crossing my arms, I reluctantly opened my mouth to answer the same question I'd been asked multiple times. The same for Conner as well, thought the others kind of disregarded him. Poor thing.

"I told you! A private mission for the super kids."

Now, that sounded so much more adult in my head. Ironic.
In the past twenty-something minutes of returning to the godforsaken mountain, myself and trusty companion, Conner, have been secured in the kitchen with the wrath of our teammates surrounding us, each with their own well thought-out and nosey questions.

The red bird in the corner rose his eyebrows and I only criss-crossed my heart that he wasn't about to walk through my lies with some actual factual piece of information.

"Actually, according to the records and data files, none of us - including the super kids - were scheduled for private missions." Robin crossed his arms, pity crossed his face as Le Bitch threw a hideous smirk towards me.

See, this is the kind of actual factual information that is going to eventually take me down - either that or Lex Luther (I will be taking my chances with the bald one)

"Listen, she's right. Superman decided to give us a mission to bond." Conner drew together a sentence in such a rush that the last word slipped from his lips like acid.

I could barely contain myself.

"What do you mean, bond?" Starlight perked up, a slither of a smirk sliding on her face. Oh, are you really surprised.

Scouring through the English dictionary, I stumbled upon a word 'outcast'. Finally, the understanding hit me like a ton of bricks - they all stared, each with their somehow different coloured irises, just watching and waiting for an answer.

"We weren't getting along..." I started, hoping that Conner would be a decent brother and help a gal out here.

"...so we were sent away on a mission - I wouldn't even call it that..." He gave a nervous chuckle as he turned to me.

Gravely, I finished the story "...but after spending some much appreciated time together, I dare say we are getting on track of this friendship."

While being on Earth, and being conscious, I was introduced to the clichéd soap operas every now and then. Though I must say, each surprised face checked off a box of those soap operas lousy acting.

Compared to that, M'gnn appeared to almost burst into a bliss of happiness, or happy tears.

"Oh thank goodness! You're getting along."

Before I could calculate where my hands were, her long green arms hung around me and Conner as we were pulled into a forceful hug.

Although, it seems M'gnn bought the act of friendly brother and sister time, the rest didn't and only had stronger suspicions which they withheld until they had a decent amount of evidence.

For now, I hopped out of the choking embrace and off to bed. Being unable to use powers in public was tiring, walking instead of flying almost killed me and I felt that I deserved some good rest after spending some much time with my brotherly idiot.

The sickly smell of burnt toast hit me as I drifted in  and out of sleep, another quiet day at Mt. Justice had it in for me. I'd risen early and because of some pesky beach birds outside, my sleep was considered worthless and I simply decided to make some food.

The only other person hanging around in the kitchen was Kaldur, but he left after a few words between us - he said he had to train. Uh hu.

As I sat down to unwillingly eat the blackened bread, another unwelcome visitor paid a visit.

"Kara."

"What do you want?" I glanced up towards Superman, who sprouted an emotionless face and the same boring ensemble.

"Kara, I know what you've done, and where you went." He said softly, as if he wasn't mad at me or Conner, for you know, paying a visit to the man on the most wanted list of the world.

"How? Have you been spying on me?" I questioned, without a trace of proof or dignity.

He lowered his head "We, the League, suspected you would visit him."

My toast hit the plate far too quickly for me to register "Him? As in Lex Luther, my supposed father?"

Suddenly, Superman became speechless. He didn't say anything, didn't come close as his words fumbled around before becoming audible.

"Well?"

"Now, really isn't the time, Kara." He replied, attempting to make eye contact with me.

"Tell me, is Lex Luther my father?"

My eyes met his in a heated battle, he clearly kept something from me, was it the truth or a lie? Something wasn't right. It was truly beginning to kick in.

"TELL ME."

The scream of my own voice echoed off the walls as I stood up and confronted this godly man who turned out, in reality, was a complete coward.
He looked towards me with a glisten of a tear in his eye, the words that came out of his mouth didn't reach my ears as he nodded first, then quickly and then stopped.

When I sat down with Lex Luther, I knew he was spiralling lies to coerce me to join him in whatever he planned. This wasn't what I planned! I'd give anything to be in the shallow ground again...
If this was true, and it was because it had been solely confirmed by the greatest God on Earth - that must've meant that everything Lex told me was; the lab, the fire, my brother, my mother...

I watched my body shake and shiver, beads of sweat rolled off my neck and down my back. I managed to cooperate with my feet and turn away, suddenly deaf to Superman's pleas before me. I shook with almighty horror as I turned to face my teammates, each with those soap opera expressions.

Conner - my brother, I guess - came towards me, wrapping his arms around me in such sudden affection as I collapsed against him. Murmuring all sorts as I sobbed away, this was no Supergirl. This was a villain's daughter...

Wow I just overlooked the cast members of this book and suffice to say, it's quite embarrassing that Elsa is Wonder Woman and Thor turns out to be Aquaman... I really have to change that.

TT XOXO
