Oneshot 9: Battlefield -
A/N: This idea was suggested to me by one of the couple people I'm really close with on Wattpad. It's about Supermartian going through the struggles, ups and downs, of a relationship. And the song used with it, is Battlefield by Jordin Sparks, because she's so talented! Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy!
"Don't try to explain your mind, I know what's happening here. One minute it's love, and suddenly, it's like a battlefield. One word turns into war. Why is it the smallest things that tear us down? My world's nothing, when you're done. I'm out here without a shield. Can't go back now..."
Conner yelled again, from the training room, "Why can't you understand that I'm happy being alone?!" M'gann replied, following his voice, and finding him, "Please, Conner. You have to listen to me. I want to help. Tell me what's going on." The clone grunted, "No." M'gann pushed further, thinking that she should help, as he seemed a bit odd. She answered, "Your psyche seems a bit stressed." "I'm not stressed!", he yelled, startling her. When he looked her way, he saw tears in her eyes. She sniffled, and said, "Well, maybe we aren't meant to be, then, if that's how you feel."
"Both hands tied behind my back for nothing. Oh no... These times when we climb so fast to fall again. Why we gotta fall for it now? I never meant to start a war. You know I never wanna hurt you. Don't even know what we're fighting for. Why does love always feel like... a battlefield (battlefield), a battlefield (battlefield), a battlefield (battlefield)? Why does love always feel like..." (x2)
Conner watched her leave, and felt something that he didn't even know he could feel. It was hurt. He hadn't meant to be that cruel, or that cold to her, but she had invaded his space. He needed time to adjust to everything. Sure, he loved her, but it was hard to love, when he felt like they both had different things going for them. Her soft heart, his cold touch. He realized, he hurt her more than he expected. Now, he didn't even know if there was any way to win her back. He growled to himself, "Stupid! How could I have been so stupid!? I hurt her, and I'm so stupid!"
"Can't swallow our pride. Neither of us wanna raise that flag... If we can't surrender, then we both gonna lose what we had. Oh no... Both hands tied behind my back for nothing. Oh no... These times when we climb so fast to fall again. I don't wanna fall for it now? I never meant to start a war. You know I never wanna hurt you. Don't even know what we're fighting for. Why does love always feel like... a battlefield (battlefield), a battlefield (battlefield), a battlefield (battlefield)? Why does love always feel like..." (x2)
Conner left the room, and walked into the kitchen, where he saw M'gann getting out the ingredients for some cookies. She seemed upset, and it was all his fault. He went to the couch, and flicked on the TV static he enjoyed. Kaldur walked into the room, and hearing their silence, asked, "You two are not speaking to each other?" The two aliens looked up, and accidentally, their eyes met. They both quickly looked down, to avoid having to say something, and surrender to the silent treatment act, they were dealing with. Neither could back down, because then it would cost them everything. How they felt with the silence. Why both got worked up over a small argument, as little and petty as her trying to help him. There was still a war raging overhead, and it wasn't going to end.
"I guess you better go, and get your armor (get your armor). Get your armor (get your armor). I guess you better go, and get your armor (get your armor). I guess you better go, and get your..."
"We're not speaking, Kaldur.", M'gann said sadly. The Atlantian looked to the clone ally, and asked softly, "Superboy? Is there something going on?" Conner grunted, "She tried to invade my personal space. I hate that. She tried to fix me, and help me." M'gann said, "I was only trying to figure out why you were so down in the dumps!" Conner grumbled, "I don't need you telling me what to do, and trying to establish a connection with me!" "Well, if you'd open up, I wouldn't have to force my way in sometimes! You're so stubborn headed that you don't even recognize when someone wants to help you!", M'gann cried out, the spoon with sticky dough hitting the TV set, and setting it off. Conner rose angrily, and smashed a hole in the wall, screaming, "You broke the TV!" "Good riddance! It's not like you don't break something every day!", she snapped back.
"We could pretend that we are friends tonight, and in the morning we'd wake up and we'd be alright. 'Cause baby, we don't have to fight. And I don't want this love to feel like... a battlefield (battlefield), a battlefield (battlefield), a battlefield (battlefield)? Why does love always feel like... a battlefield (battlefield), a battlefield (battlefield), a battlefield (battlefield)? (x2)
Kaldur tried to calm them down, "Please, stop, both of you. Fighting each other is not the solution.", but they kept on going, avoiding his words. Finally, he said, "You both need to work this out." He left the room, after attempting and failing to help both aliens to resolve whatever issue they had going on between them. They couldn't even pretend that they weren't fighting, because everyone knew they were, and everyone knew they would until something changed. Both had a way of either staying calm, or blowing steam, and no one realized how this might cause trouble.
"I guess you better go, and get your armor (get your armor). Get your armor (get your armor). I guess you better go, and get your armor (get your armor). I guess you better go, and get your..."
After Kaldur had left, Conner, asked, "Look what happened because you can't just leave me helpless! Now Kaldur's in a bad mood." "ME? Uh, I'm not the one with anger issues, who can't seem to keep his fists in control!", the young green skinned Martian remarked. After several minutes of silence, Conner asked, "What were we fighting over, again?" M'gann said, "Uh, I'm not really sure anymore." She added, "Con, I'm sorry for whatever I did that set you off. I know you know I was just trying to help, and I didn't realize it made you angry. Please forgive me so we can move past this?" Conner sighed, and said, "No, I'm sorry. I should have let you in. I didn't realize you wanted to help me so badly. Forgive me?" M'gann nodded, and the two aliens hugged it out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Several minutes later, Conner admitted, remembering what had started the feud in the first place, "Honestly, I was stressed, like you had said. I had gone to Metropolis just to observe, and Superman blamed me for an accident I didn't cause. It really just made me realize that he still doesn't accept me. I was stressed, mainly because I want to be him so badly, even though he hates me." M'gann said, kissing him, "Con, whatever he says, doesn't matter at all. If he doesn't like you, then he's going to have to learn to put up with you, just to get missions completed. Okay? You aren't him, and you aren't Luthor. You're just you. Try to be you." Conner nods, and kisses her back, holding her close in his arms.
A/N: So, what did you guys think of this song fic oneshot? I'm just wondering because there are so many songs I associate with both Supermartian and Spitfire, and I now want to do song oneshots on them all! Anyway, I hope you guys liked this one! Until the next update, stay whelmed!
