Oneshot 20: Kent Generation Day (Part 1)

Connor Kent frowned and gave a rather concerned look when he and M'gann entered their classroom at Happy Harbor High one spring morning, for as he sat down, his eyes were drawn to the whiteboard in front of him. Written in massive letters were the words "Generation Day" and the date written below the message informed everyone that in three days there was going to be the event. Their teacher, later in class, told everyone that their class would have a day where the students would invite the parents to come speak about their families and the generation that each had.
Even as he listened to the teacher answer questions from several other students, Connor became uneasy. He turned slightly to M'gann, who asked him telepathically, 'What's wrong, Connor? You seem very worried about this day. Are you worried about if Superman will agree to come?' He sighed, and replied back, 'I guess so. He hates me. I know he does.' 'You don't know that, Connor. Maybe all he needs is to warm up to you. Maybe the first step is you asking him to come speak. I know my uncle will be here, so perhaps if he knows that, then he will come also.', M'gann replied. Connor stated, 'You weren't there when he met me at the Cadmus destruction site, M'gann. He saw what I had done. He knows I'm just a half copy of him. I'm not his family at all. To him, I'm just a clone, and that is all I will ever be.' 'Please just try to ask him to come speak, okay? I'll come with you if it would help. Would that be something you'd be up for?', M'gann pleaded to him with her question. 'I guess that would help if you came with me, M'gann. I know I don't act like it, but I just get uneasy whenever I get the cold shoulder from him. I want him like me, because he is all I ever wanted to be when I was at Cadmus.', Connor answered, turning back to the lecture that had begun to take place.
Later that day, after classes were let out, Connor and M'gann took the nearest Zeta Tube to the Cave. When they arrived, they found that Robin and Wally were already hard at work playing a race kart game on the TV. M'gann disappeared into the kitchen to make cookies, while Connor came over to watch the two best friends compete for best racer on the course.
Connor was seated peacefully thinking in silence, when all of a sudden Wally's voice suddenly called out, "Hey! You just cheated! You hit my racekart and hacked the controller!" Robin's voice came next with the words, "You snooze, you lose, Walls. And why would I try to cheat on a game I play better on than you do? Makes no sense, that's what!" "Come on, Rob! It makes perfect sense.", Wally argued. Annoyed by the banter of the two best friends, Connor rolled his eyes and stood up, silently making his way to his broom closet 'room' for some much needed and wanted peace and quiet. It was obvious he wasn't going to get any of it in the main room of the Cave.
By the time Connor was settled into a comfortable position in his small enclosed space to think, he heard the Zeta Tube announcement voice notify that Martian Manhunter and Superman were both present at the Cave. He then heard M'gann's voice from the kitchen as clear as a bell, asking Martian Manhunter if he would come to the high school to speak on the history of their family, all of which would have to be made up to hide the fact that they were not from Earth in reality. Then, Connor's eyes widened when he heard M'gann tell him telepathically, 'You should come ask him now. He doesn't seem so upset...' 'Fine. But if this does not work, then I will be missing that day of classes.', he replied back before opening his door and heading down the hall.
Exiting the hall mere seconds later, Connor looked up slightly, finding he was nearly head to head with Superman. He took an awkward step back in surprise, as M'gann said, "Superman, I think Connor has something he wants to ask you." 'Go on. I'll be right here.', she encouraged telepathically to him. Connor took a deep breath, trying to think of the right way to ask the question so that maybe the Man of Steel would agree, and that maybe he would see that all Connor wanted was to be accepted by the person he admired most.
After several silent minutes, and looks of concerns from both Martian Manhunter and M'gann, Connor finally found the right words he wanted to say. He cleared his throat, feeling his neck grow hot with embarrassment, as he said in his usual straight of the matter, silent, and shy way, "I have an important event at the high school. Would you consider...coming to talk at it about our generations in the past? If not, its fine. You must be busy."
Superman opened his mouth to say something back, then closed it, turning to Martian Manhunter for any advice he might have on how to handle the situation. The green alien nodded slightly, gesturing his head to Connor. Eventually Superman too, spoke, saying, "I suppose that would be something I could...um.. do." He turned and exited very quickly through the Zeta Tube, obviously trying to flee before anything else came of it.
As soon as Superman was gone, Martian Manhunter sighed deeply, placing a firm hand on Connor's shoulder, "I am deeply sorry that he acts that way towards you. It should not be so. I will go talk to him." He then turned as well, and left the Cave, leaving M'gann and Connor standing in the hall alone.
In the living room area, sounds of Robin and Wally playing their game still could be heard. M'gann smiled brightly and turned to Connor. She excitedly told him telepathically, 'See? I knew he would say yes! You did so well!' Connor just frowned and answered back, 'He didn't sound so enthusiastic about it. I'm not even sure it really registered that he said yes.' 'Connor, he will show up. My uncle will talk to him about it and give him all the details. I'm sure of it!', M'gann gleefully replied. 'You might think so, M'gann, but I don't. He doesn't like or want anything to do with me, and that is that.', Connor stated, as he retreated back to his broom closet of a room.
(P.S. I did research where Connor decided to reside when he first came to the Cave. Beforehand I've always used a broom closet when in an rp, and when I finally researched it, apparently I had it right from the start. If you look on his and M'gann's current YJ wikia page of them together, it mentions it.)
