Oneshot 1: Painless Love
A/N: So a friend of mine suggested I do a oneshot book for YJ, and I decided I would listen and do one, since I'm not near my laptop right now! Here's the first one for you guys! Enjoy!
The Team was on a mission, and things weren't going the way they had planned, as usual. Artemis was shooting arrows at every villain that tried to get close to her. Kaldur was trying to hold back, and create a barrier, so Robin could deactivate a bomb. M'gann was stuck in a strange psychic haze, that no matter what, couldn't be stopped. Conner willingly and strongly was ripping metal from the villains' equipment, destroying any chance of the enemy succeeding. As for Wally, he was currently stuck in a small cave, refueling his stomach. Since the mission had been long, he was running on fumes and had told the Team that if he didn't eat soon, he might pass out. So they covered him, while he consumed a granola bar.
When he was finished, Wally ran out, and began using his super speed to quickly repel and punch different villains. What he was not suspecting, was the enemy was completely aware of his needs, and was using them to their advantage. They pushed the ginger so hard, that the small granola bar wasn't going to be enough energy to keep him going for long. Before long, he was so exhausted and so pushed to the extreme from a lack of food, that his serious metabolism made him pass out, and crash to the ground.
Wally awoke several hours later, more precisely at night, in the Med-Bay, with a heavy, throbbing headache. Groaning, he sat up, and his uncle rushed over. "KID!," the older speedster said, in a fast pace, "I was worried sick, when Batman called me, and told me you passed out on the mission! What happened?" "Uncle Barry, what are you talking about? I'm fine.", Wally replied, applying a bit of pressure with his fingers to his head, to reduce the headache. Barry answered, "Walls, you passed out on the mission. When you got here, your body showed little signs of metabolic intake. Did you not eat? Didn't you take anything with you? You know us speedsters have to keep eating...." The young teen said, not at all denying the truth, "But I did eat, Uncle Barry! I swear! I brought a granola bar and ate it! The Team can vouch for me! Just go ask!" Barry said, "Well... you do sound sincere.... But what the heck am I going to tell your parents!? You passing out doesn't and hasn't ever happened before. Was there anything out of the ordinary about the mission?" Wally thought back, and said, "No, I mean.... It seemed pretty normal. Getting punched and fighting back was all that happened." Barry sighed, then came up, and hugged his nephew close. He said, "Well still, I'm glad you're safe. You're my only nephew, and I would hate to lose you. It would kill me to tell your parents what happened if you died." Wally looked up at Barry, and grinned widely, before responding, "Come on, Uncle Barry! The Wallman is nearly unstoppable. Nothing could ever keep me out forever!" Barry ruffled the red locks on Wally, then stood up. He grinned back, and answered, "I hope so... I guess I had better be going. Villains never take a vacation." Barry went to the door, then stopped, and turned. He said, winking, "Oh, and I think there's someone who's here to see you."
As Wally watched his uncle leave, he wondered who the person coming to see him was. Robin was probably with Batman, which meant he was most likely in Gotham. M'gann and Conner we're likely in the Cave kitchen, working on some new recipe. Artemis was probably with Green Arrow. And Kaldur, well it was only clear that he would be back in Atlantis for the night.
The door opened, and Wally was somewhat stunned, when he saw the only person he had no idea would even come in: Artemis. The blonde stepped into the room, and came up to the bed. She asked, using her kind voice for some reason, "Hi Wally. You doing alright? You took quite fall earlier." The ginger responded, his mind being tranced by the pain medication, "Yeah, uh Artemis.... Why are you here? I thought you didn't like me." The blonde let out a laugh, and said, "Well, I was coming in here to check on you. Robin texted me and said to do it. If he hadn't, I never would've agreed to do it." Wally grinned, and said, "Ah, that explains it. He always has had a way of getting people to do things. Must be a batfamily thing, making people do things..." Artemis answered back, " Yeah, must be."
•Flashback•
The mission was still in full swing, and everyone was combatting a different villain. Artemis used a trick arrow, and launched it on Atomic Skull, covering him in a thick layer of high-density polyurethane foam. He growled, and tried to punch his way out. Hearing a sound, Artemis turned, and watched Wally collapse to the ground, his face and form not looking good. Rushing over, worried, she relayed over the telepathic link, "Guys! Wally is out! Something happened! He's not moving!" Robin responded, "Artemis! Get KF to a safe zone! We can't stop fighting them! You're going to have to keep him safe until we get there!" Artemis yelled, "You expect me to carry Kid Idiot's load?! Uh, no way!" Kaldur added, "Listen to Robin, Artemis! He knows Kid Flash better than any of us. Just get him to a safe spot, then Robin can get him taken care of." Artemis, though annoyed, grabbed the ginger, and swung him onto her back, with ease, then took him to a cave, and gently laid him down, waiting until the mission was over.
•End Flashback•
Wally looked up at Artemis, and said, "So uh.... I guess you have to go now." The blonde responded, "I don't have to go quite yet..." She moved closer, and sat beside the ginger. Wally answered, "Oh, I thought you'd want to go." His stomach made a sound, and he cringed, and said, "Sorry." Artemis responded, "It's fine. Do you want me to get you something? I think M'gann made cookies." Wally nodded, and asked, "Would you?" Artemis let out a chuckle, rushed out, and returned with a plate of cookies. "Beautiful...you're awesome.", Wally commented to Artemis. He blushed when he realized what had been said. Artemis teased, "Someone embarrassed, Kid Idiot?" Wally shrugged, and ate a cookie.
As soon as it disappeared, Wally looked at Artemis and realized she was really close to him. He could feel her breath on his face, and it was sweet, almost relaxing. Moving closer, the two of them were just centimeters apart. Slowly, they grew closer, and their lips touched each other. Artemis was surprised, but didn't move. She instead let it happen. With no one around, the moment was perfect for them both.
When the kiss ended, Wally drew back quickly, as did Artemis. He asked, "Did we just...kiss?" Artemis snapped, "We will never speak of this moment ever again. But yes, I guess we did." Wally said, "Artemis, I..." She answered, "Doesn't matter, Wally. We might have something, but we can't let them know. No one can know. We have to pretend to hate each other and never let the others know. I don't want to put you in more danger, because of me. I'm sorry." Artemis left without another word. Frowning, the ginger whispered, "I love you too, Artemis....", then closed his eyes, and fell asleep.
