A Little Birdie's Secret (Part 2)
A/N: I am so sorry for not getting this out much sooner, but I have been at work, for three days straight till really early in the morning, so I had no writing time. Anyway, it gave me a lot of time to think about how to phrase this conclusion for you all. I hope you all enjoy this conclusion!
The next day, after a good night's sleep, Robin walked into the living room, and noticed the others were talking. M'gann said, "I really want to go to the movies, and we have nothing that I know of, that's on our schedule." Artemis responded, "Yeah, I'm bored. The movies would be nice. What's that new movie called, that just came out a few weeks ago?" "Uh... I'm not sure.", Wally said, looking at his best friend, and knowing exactly which movie they were referring to. Artemis thought for a second, then snapped her fingers, and said, "I know! It was called The Greatest Showman!" Hearing those words, the young Bird flinched a second, wishing that they seriously weren't thinking of seeing that movie.
It wasn't like he hated movies. He always enjoyed a good movie, but not that particular one, where the main character was a circus master like Haly. Robin didn't want to get found out, that he was once a circus person, and that the aerialist, acrobatic acts in it, would leave him greatly saddened and disturbed, heavy on the dis, for his parents. Still, if they asked if he wanted to go, he couldn't refuse, or it would raise suspicion.
Snapping himself out of the mental thoughts swarming in his head, Robin heard M'gann ask the others, who all agreed they should, before she turned to him. She said, kindly smiling at him, "Robin, do you want to come along? It'll be fun!" "Sure.", he said, smirking back up at the alien redhead. She beamed happily, then flew off to go finish getting ready. Conner stood still, waiting for her, knowing quite well she'd be back for him.
In the meantime, Robin left the room as well, and headed for the training room. When he arrived, he immediately saw the acrobatic rings hanging from the ceiling, and went to them, not minding that he was still in his civvies. Once suspended by them, he began to perform various feats that would leave anyone watching, fascinated. As he bent backwards, hanging on, his shades fell, and landed on the mat below. Luckily, Wally walked in, and said, "Dude, you don't have to go, if you don't want to. I know what seeing that movie would mean for you." Robin grunted, and landed in front of the speedster. He said, picking up the shades, "KF, if I don't go, Artemis will suspect me more. She'll easily link me to the Flying Graysons, because the posters are still up, and she knows about the incident. Batman told me to never share my identity with anyone, except you, and I've kept my word on that. I have to go, to keep my identity as Dick Grayson a secret." Wally responded, putting a hand on Robin's shoulder, "Okay, Rob... If you really think you are gonna be okay, when we go, then I trust you." The two bros slapped high fives, then left the room, laughing.
Later, at the theater, Robin took a seat on the far right, near the exit. He stared up at the screen, wondering if he had made the wrong decision to go. Finally, the movie started, and cautiously, the Bird slowly removed his shades, knowing no one would see his eyes in the dark of the theater. As the film played, Robin felt a few tears on banks of his eyes, when they did the song, "The Greatest Show". It reminded him so much of his past, and yet, he felt compelled to stay. Looking over at the others, he saw M'gann and Conner holding hands. Pulling his eyes back up to the screen, he watched every second, and every detail behind the cast's flight on the rings, midair. He whispered each move to himself, reassuring himself that he was okay.
When the movie ended, the Team left the theater, and all of them were chattering, except the incredibly silent ones. As they headed to the Bioship, parked in camouflage mode, Robin stared back at the theater. Then he closed his eyes, and heard the familiar voice in his head, of his mother. She told him, her voice echo-like, "My little Robin... Why be ashamed of your past? It makes you who you are...the special and perfect parts of you. Remember, we love you, always. And we'll always be in your heart. Keep that in mind, when you soar and when you may fall, my bird. Always get back up, and try again. That's what we taught you." Robin muttered to himself, "Mom...", then sighed. He knew she was right, as she always had been. Ever since he had joined the Team, he had kept his secrets hidden, from everyone. He was scared to tell them he was insecure about so much, and so ashamed of his past, that he kept it away, behind a facade of a domino mask. Telling them meant he'd have to give up that mask, and be honest.
When the Cave was in sight, he watched M'gann fly it into the Hangar, and park it gently on the ground. As the Team got up to exit, Robin asked if they could sit back down. They all did, and Kaldur asked, "What do you need to tell us, my friend? It seems urgent." Robin nodded, then said, "Guys, there's been a lot of secrets I've been keeping from you all, ever since the Team was formed, and for that, I'm sorry. Batman...he wanted me to never tell you who I am , because he fears it would be bad news for him. Not anymore. It's time you got to really know me, without the shades...without a mask to hide behind." Artemis growled, "Get to it already." Slowly moving his hands to his shades, and removing them, the Bird said, "Okay... this is the real me. I'm-" Artemis gasped, and said, "Richard Grayson! What the heck?! Is this some sort of lame joke?!" Dick blushed, then said, "Yeah... no. This isn't a joke, Artemis. This is me." Artemis sneered, "I'm seriously the only one who was surprised by this? Why aren't you all?" M'gann quietly whispered, "I, um... already knew... The first time the Team linked up. I heard your thoughts, Dick, and I'm sorry." The Bird shrugged his shoulders then said, "It's cool. Wally and Kaldur already knew too... The only ones who didn't, were you, and Conner." The clone said, "I have no idea who you are." Dick laughed, then said, "It's okay, Conner. You'll understand, when I can tell you more about it. Right now, I think we need to head inside. I have a good feeling we're gonna have a mission later tonight." And just like that, they all headed in.
