dick stared at the letter in his hands. this had to be a joke. a sick prank someone pulled.

i love you more.

he felt tears prickle at the back of his eyes, this wasn't allowed. right when he thought he was over wally, this shows up in his mail slot. dick sat down on the floor, his shaking hands almost dropping the letter.

he ran his fingers over the sentence.

i love you more.

it was wally's handwriting. but how could it be? wally was gone, dead. forever. dick's stomach churned, and he instantly regretted the lunch he had just finished.

kf sauntered over, and dick scratched under his chin. this letter had to be the work of the penguin, or the riddler, or any of the 162 836 people that hated him.

someone knocked on his door, practically begging to come in. dick's mind raced. it couldn't be wally. it was artemis or zatanna, maybe his neighbour needed to borrow his flat iron again.

he stood up slowly, folding up the letter and shoving it in his back pocket. kf followed behind him as he walked over to the door, an omnipotent meow warning him. running a hand through his unruly hair, dick smiled and opened the door.

"hi, can i-" dick froze. the air in the room seemed to cease as physics gave out. he stumbled backward, only to trip over kf and fall onto his back.

except he didn't.

the second he lost control of his body he found himself being held onto by arms. strong, beautiful, freckled arms.

dick couldn't breathe.

"you must be kf." dick's prince charming smiled at the cat, "i've heard a lot about you."

"wally?" dick finally found his voice, pulling himself out of the man's arms and standing a few feet away. "i... you can't be real. i've finally lost it."

wally, the wally that dick had loved for years, stepped closer. "no, dickie. i'm here. i made it back to you."

a tear ran down dick's cheek, and he reached out his pinkie toward wally. "promise?"

"promise."

they interlocked their pinkies, and wally used that to pull dick close to him, wrapping him in a hug. it was different than before, dick had grown. he was almost as tall as the ginger, and had definitely gained some muscle.

dick held wally as tight as he could, doing his best not to sob but failing miserably. it was like the old days, wally a human furnace, his chest comfortable as he took steady breaths.

only god knows how long they stayed like that until dick finally pulled away. he wiped away any last tears, sniffling quietly. "two years, you left me. two years. where were you?"

something close to a frown settled on wally's features. "i was stuck in the speed force. it only felt like twenty minutes for me."

dick nodded solemnly, "you... i could have-"

"you couldn't have known," wally interrupted, "no one did."

dick pursed his lips, reaching up to comb wally's hair. "you look beautiful." he murmured.

"says the guy who looks like a greek god."

dick smirked, "i try."

"no, but for real, you got toned while i was gone," wally ran his hands over every bit of exposed skin on the romanian man, "police academy really turned you into a twink."

dick laughed, a sound so beautiful it made angels envious, and pecked wally's cheek before leading him to sit on his l-couch, stationed in the middle of his living room. they sat in the corner, holding eachother close as dick took time to remember all of the little details about wally's face that had began to fade over time.

"you got my letters?" he gazed into emerald eyes.

"when i realized i was back, i went to our apartment immediately. gave the new couple living there quite a scare. that's when i realized that it had been more that twenty minutes in the real world."

dick hummed, interlocking his hand with the love of his life's.

"i went to arty's, praying that twenty minutes for me was a hundred years for you. she was there, and she told me where you lived now, but she also told me that you'd written letters to me since i disappeared."

"so she grabbed them out of a drawer, and we had food as i read them. i... they were a lot, and i couldn't just show up at your house and scare you.

"so i wrote you a letter, slipped it in your mail slot and waited until it had seemed like you had read it, then knocked."

wally finished his autobiography, placing a kiss on dick's forehead. "i would've come here immediately, but arty said that the letters were important, and i agree."

dick was at a loss for words. "i really fucking hope this isn't a dream, walls." he smiled, pressing his mouth against the ginger's.

slow and passionate.

dick pulled out his phone, wally had already been here a few hours, and it felt wrong to keep him from everyone else. he started to message their old groupchat, cringing at how the last message was sent over two years ago.

dick: guys.
dick: be at the cave in an hour or two, and tell everyone to be there.

m'gann: what's happening???

artemis: i'm on my way.

dick smiled, turning to where wally was devouring his snack cupboard. the man never changed. "hey, walls?"

"yes, darling?"

dick rolled his eyes at the sweetness of the name, but couldn't hold back his grin. "do you want to go see your parents before we see the team?"

wally took a bite of his strawberry pop tart, beaming. "yes! right now?"

"if you want to run us there." dick cackled, opening his arms so that wally could pick him up bridal-style. the ginger happily obliged, giving him a few hasty kisses before they were off, speeding toward kansas once again.

everyone had about the same reaction as dick when they saw wally, both his parents cried, iris couldn't believe her eyes, and barry blamed himself for not going into the speed force to save him sooner.

they stayed in kansas for a long time, wally getting asked questions and holding his family close, before everyone decided to come with the two to the cave.

it wasn't his parents' first time being there. wally's funeral was there.

everyone at the cave thought it was some kind of attack against them, and it took a lot of explaining before it finally settled in.

this was wally.

wally was alive.

bart cried for hours, staying at wally's side for hours, apologizing for taking the mantle of kid flash. (which wally profusely told him was ok, and he was ready to move on anyway). m'gann cried into wally's shoulder, then conner's, then dick's. her whole night consisted of crying.

kaldur gave wally a firm hug and expressed his emotions, and conner told him that he was an inspiration and he was so glad that wally had helped to find him and befriend him after cadmus.

jamie was shaking with love, and zatanna even fainted once she saw wally. red tornado made a speech about how wally was the epitome of brilliance and he was overjoyed that he was back, and raquel just hugged him and warned him too never, ever, leave them again.'

alfred showed up too, crying silently, and told dick that 'mister wallace is part of the family, and family supports and loves one another no matter what' before the zeta tubes beamed out bruce and every single batkid.

wally was pretty much mauled by baby ninjas.

the party raged on until morning, when everyone dragged themselves to bed and wally made several promises that he'd still be there in the morning.

"are you coming?" dick asked wally, outreaching his hand until wally grasped it.

"where are we going?"

"i never let the team take down anything from your room here, and it's been far too long since i've been able to sleep with you." dick was giddy, god, wally made him psycho with serotonin, he always had.

wally smirked, "i hope you sleep naked."

"your wish is my command."

the next days, weeks, months, and years were wonderful. slowly, the constant worry that wally was going to leave one day and never come back subsided, and everyone in his life was able to take a breather.

wally re-proposed to dick, and they got married a few months after he had returned. everyone came, even kf the cat, and it was the happiest day of both men's lives.

their honeymoon was what they had dreamed of - a trip to romania together.

dick graduated police academy after a couple more years, becoming a fully fledged officer of the law, and wally finished up his schooling for forensics. (as he was halfway through when he disappeared).

'richard and wallace try to cook' was rebooted several years down the line, with special guest appearances of kf and his new girlfriend, robin. (totally named after the bird. 100%).

they both even managed to 'accidentally' walk into the adoption clinic and 'accidentally' walk out with a six-year old girl who's parents were killed by the penguin. accidentally.

everything in their life was panning out the way they dreamed, for love can overcome anything.
