Chapter 68
It has been two weeks and Barbara was finally released from the hospital. Christmas Break had just started as Artemis walked around on the phone while holding Lian. Recently her and Barbara had actually been getting really close. They actually had a lot in common and related to certain things. Doorbell ringing she said goodbye to Wally who was chattering on the phone and went to answer it. She had invited Barbara over to hangout since she just got released. The red head was at the door in her wheelchair with a smile on her face.
Her father said goodbye before leaving the two. "Hello little Lian" she greeted taking her jacket off. "So I was thinking of some badass nickname you could have" Artemis said as Barbara wheeled along beside her. "Shoot blonde" she said as Lian giggled pulling at the girls blonde hair. "How about Oracle?" Artemis asked as Barbara stopped and sat there for a second contemplating it. "It sounds mysterious I like it. So I've also done some snooping around like you asked" she said as they went into the living room.
For being in a wheelchair Artemis was surprised how easily Barbara made it look to get around. Pulling out the laptop she began typing some things in with a smirk. "Timothy visited a couple times asking for some technology tips" she said as Artemis raised an eyebrow. Everyone was warming up to her already. "So Mr. Grayson has definitely been getting around if you know what I mean" she said pulling up the GCTV cameras. Lian was situated on Artemis lap staring at the red head smiling.
A look of disgust appeared on both of their faces. "We should call Zatanna" Artemis said as Barbara immediately tensed up. That was still a major road bump. Sighing she looked down at her lap and handed Artemis her laptop. They switched as Artemis tried to video call Zatanna while Barbara held Lian. Roy and Jade were on one of their date nights so Artemis was stuck watching Lian. "Hello? Oh Artemis its you! Did you get a new computer?" Zatanna's voice asked as Barbara sunk into her wheelchair.
Artemis shook her head as the ebony tilted her head to the side. "Its Barbara's but before you say anything she's cool with us now. But she just wants to say something" Artemis said seeing Zatanna's eyes flicker with anger as she turned the laptop around. The red head gulped and fixed her glasses as they were falling down. "Hey, you've probably not seen me like this before" she said nervously avoiding eye contact with the laptops camera. "I just wanted to say that I'm sorry, so sorry for hurting you and everything. But you shouldn't trust Dick he cheated on you" she said as Zatanna raised an eyebrow.
A dry laugh escaped the ebony's lips as she looked confused. "How would you know he's cheating on me if he was?" She asked as Barbara began to explain everything. Zatanna's perky face started to sink into a look of despair. "B-But he said he loved me" she stuttered out in a shaky voice. From the screen they could see Zatanna's fake smile as she clutched the fabric of her shirt. "I'm sorry you had to hear this way" Barbara apologized feeling another wave of guilt wash over her.

She sat there on her bed staring at the red head on the computer screen. Was this some sick dream that she would wake up from soon? Her walls soon crumbled as silent tears streamed down her cheeks. All those times he said he loved her was a lie. "I'll c-call you later" she said in a shaky voice before ending the call. Closing her laptop she sat there looking down as the tears streamed down her face and onto her lap. The fabric of her shirt was clutched tightly as she felt her heart shattering.
Her life was like a some kind of sick game. Picking her phone up her hands shook as she unlocked it. That explained why he never answered her calls or texts. "Busy my ass" she muttered opening his contact and typing a simple message. "We're done with this sick game, goodbye" it said before she sent it and turned off her cellphone. Standing up her head sound as all the blood rushed to her head. Zachary was still at work so it wasn't like she could vent to him about her problems.
The next best thing was going to her new best friends apartment. She met her in school and ironically the girl lived down the hall from her. Slipping her shoes on she shuffled out of the apartment and down the hallway. Standing in front of the door she knocked before wrapping her arms around herself. The door opened to the blonde and green eyed girl. She gave her friend a look of despair as they let her in. "He cheated on me Emily" she said as tears began to stream down her cheeks faster.
Her friend engulfed her in a comforting hug. Why was life so unfair to her? Could she not keep someone in her life forever without losing them? Her and Emily sat on the couch in a mountain of tissues and chocolate bar wrappers. There was one thing about her new friend and that wad that she had a major sweet tooth. "He wasn't worth the trouble Zee" she said patting her back to try and calm her down. Looking down she shook her head with a frown. "No, no it wasn't" she said in a small voice.

Hanging upside down off of her bed she stared straight ahead at the girl sitting and reading a book. Raven was reading the new book that Garfield gifted her before Christmas break. "You have the crush on friend Garfield do you not?" Kori asked with a sly smile as Raven jumped. A crimson blush spreading across her cheeks. "You like Richard" she shot back as Kori blushed a bright red. "But he has the girlfriend" she said as Raven rolled her eyes. "Are we going to do the dying of hair now?" She asked as Raven closed her book and stood up.
They walked downstairs and into the washroom where a box of hair dye sat. "Are you the sure friend Raven?" Kori asked taking the violet dye out of its box. Raven had asked to dye her hair saying that she needed a fresh start. "So do you like friend Garfield?" Kori asked again as Raven sat on the toilet seat. Instead of going to a hairdressers Kori had wanted to dye Raven's hair herself. By the expression on her face Kori immediately squealed. "Oh friend that is most joyous! You have been in the need of the boyfriend. I really do the thinking that he will help you in ways that I cannot" Kori said happily as Raven's cheeks flushed a bright red.
After an hour of listening to Kori talk while doing her hair it was done. Looking in the mirror she was stunned by how good it looked. The colour had a shine to it which was nice. "Friend Garfield will do the noticing for sure" Kori said making her blush even harder. Grabbing her book she waked to the front foyer and slipped her jacket on. "Friend Raven where are you going?" Kori asked watching the young teen pull her boots on. "I have somewhere to go for a bit, I'll be back later Kori don't worry" she said with a sly smile before slipping out of the house. The bitter cold hit her immediately sending a chill through her body.
It was cold and getting dark but she had somewhere to go. Actually it involved Garfield in some way. No one had really gotten her a gift before besides Kori. She felt kind of guilty that she didn't have anything to give him back. Raven actually knew more then she would've liked about him. With Garfield constantly talking to her even if she doesn't want to listen her mind seems to remember the pointless things he rambles about to her. Walking towards the EB Games (or Gamestop or whatever but its EB Games in Canada) she looked in the window before walking in.
Garfield really liked his video games and had an obsession over this new game that came out. He couldn't buy it of course because he didn't have enough money. Grabbing the game she bought it and then got it wrapped in dark green wrapping paper. It was now pitch black out as she walked towards his house. The street lamps illuminated the sidewalk as she held the gift in her hands. Arriving at his house she took a deep breath before knocking on the door. Megan answered and ushered Raven inside.
"What on Earth are you doing here?" She asked in a worried tone. Raven raised an eyebrow before her cheeks flushed a light shade of red. "I brought Garfield a present" she said as Megan raised a confused eyebrow. "Why? I don't recall him leaving the house" she said as Raven held her book up and opened it to the little note written inside. "Awe that's so adorable really because I didn't give him any money. Wait that means he used the money he was saving for that new video game he wanted on you" she squealed out as Raven froze.
Did Megan say that he wasted his money on her. "Oh and I love your hair" Megan said touching her soft violet hair. "You can give him this for me" Raven said pushing the wrapped present towards the red head as Megan shook her head. "He's upstairs and I was just making dinner so since you here you can stay for a bit. I know he's been upset lately; Christmas is not that greatest Holiday for him" she said before walking off leaving Raven there still stunned. Megan talked a lot in a little amount of time.
Shrugging she took her boots off and hung her jacket up. The townhouse was decorated in Christmas decorations giving her a warm feeling inside. The radio was playing in the kitchen as she peered in seeing Megan singing while she cooked. Raven had never really been nervous but right now she was. Standing outside of his bedroom door she lightly knocked. Shuffling was heard before the door opened revealing the red headed boy. "What M'gann-oh Raven" he said slightly confused to why she was here.
Moving out of the way he let her into his room. Clearly Megan had enough and cleaned it for him because Garfield doesn't clean. "Here" she said holding the gift out towards him. He raised an eyebrow and carefully took it from her hands. "Wait you dyed your hair!" He yelled looking closer at her and touching her soft hair. "Just open the damn present" she muttered as he smirked and carefully unwrapped it. He acted as if the wrapping paper was something so sacred that he couldn't of possibly ripped it. "No way" he said staring at the video game he so badly wanted.
Within seconds he was hugging her tightly with a cheeky grin on his face. "Thank you!" He yelled excitedly as she nodded trying not to blush. On impulse he quickly kissed her cheek before realizing what he had done. "I'm sorry I didn't mean to-" he quickly sputtered out before she sighed and grabbed the collar of his shirt. Pulling him close she quickly kissed him before letting go of the fabric and walking out of his room. Her cheeks were burning a bright red but she didn't regret anything.
That red head was as much of an idiot as he was cute.
