Sunday Confessional of a Grandmother
-Some of this may seem overly specific, but as someone with white christian grandparents, it's accurate-
When the team woke up, there was a note on the table awaiting them:
'Good morning, I have gone to church, and will be done by 10:30 am. Please feel free to meet me for brunch.
Please help yourself to the food in the refrigerator.
Love
Ma'
"Epic." Wally yawned, opening the fridge. Ma didn't know the he'll she'd unleashed.
"Don't eat ALL her food." Artemis said, taking some flownaz. "Ow! Why'd'z it feel like dis? I feelike my ndoze is runnin more!"
"Ha! Sucks to suck." Wally said, getting some cinnamon toast. "So, Rob, we going?"
"Yeah! I'm putting you guys through your first brunch!" Dick said, buttoning up his polo shirt. He had an impressive amount of button ups. "We need to get the others all pampered up to be around people at Sunday brunch."
"What should we do?" M'gann gasped. "Can you help me pick my outfit!"
"Yes!" Dick exclaimed. "We'll have to manage hiding Kaldur's inhuman features, and we should find a better shirt for Conner because... yeah."
"I can cover my gills easily, but I'm not sure how conceal my webbing." Kaldur reported.
"Crocs and fingerless gloves?" Wally asked, mouth full.
"If you put Kaldur in crocs, I'm dislocating your knees." Dick stated. "Just use your slides, Kal, I hope people won't be looking at your feet too much."
"What about his fingers?" Conner asked.
Artemis wiped her nose. "Say it's a skin condition."
"Like in Invader Zim!" Wally remarked.
"What is that?" Artemis asked.
"Nevermind." He replied. "C'mon, It's like ten, I wanna get brunch."

They located the church Ma was at, and hung around outside until the end of the service. Conner brought Wolf, they told him not to, but putting Conner in public and making him act normal? Kaldur had to relent and let him bring his emotional support Wolf in the end.
Conner stayed outside with Wolf in the shade while the others snuck into the church to locate ma.
M'gann headed in, excited to be around what she saw as sweet old people. She wandered about, soaking up the atmosphere, when she was unexpectedly expected approached by an elderly man in an alb.
"Excuse me, young lady, would you mind helping me extinguish the candles?"
M'gann stumbled in surprise at the elderly man who'd approached her. "I don't know, I can't- I dunno- sorry-"
"She has a fear of fire." Wally cut in, catching up with her. "House burned down when she was three."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"I can put the candles out, I love candles." Wally took the metal extinguisher bell.
M'gann nodded appreciatively, leaning against a side table.
Kaldur was being stared down suspiciously by most of the elderly congregation, with the exception of a black grandfather and his wife, who exchanged a few words with him. Kaldur was grateful for someone in this town who didn't leave him on edge.
Well, they all felt on edge, a small church in a small town in Kansas with six queer teens visiting. Artemis had to ask her team leaders for help twice because she was sure she'd do something illegal.
Kaldur was better with humans than the humans were.
Kaldur had been around humans for the past couple years, so he had slightly more knowledge than the two aliens. At least, he had enough knowledge to stop them from hurting themselves.
M'gann felt her hand brush something, and picked it up, staring at the metal and wooden object.
She glanced around, and carefully put the end of the item in her mouth. She decided it was only oddly shaped metal and removed the object, admiring it was fascination. That was the technique her and Conner were often seen using; discover, inspect, taste, scrutinize.
Kaldur started to step forwards to stop her, but hesitated. It's not like he hadn't used the same method when he was first exploring the surface world. But usually Aquaman was there to stop him and scold his sidekick for putting himself in danger.
"What's this?" She asked their host, holding the item.
"That's a cross, sweetheart." Ma Kent told her.
M'gann frowned, nodding. "What does it do?"
Dick was charming the crowds, they were much like the old rich people at the Gotham city galas, so Dick knew how to act like a sweet, well groomed, young man. He kept glancing at Wally, who was whiter and scrawnier, and being flocked by old white women, much to his discomfort.
Artemis was getting frustrated by people making ignorant comments, if ONE more person asked her what kind of Asian she was, she would stab someone."Let's go, Conner's outside keeping Wolf company, so..." She bounced a little. "Don't want him to do something."
"I'll tell Mrs. Kent that Conner is waiting outside." Kaldur reported, separating from her. He gradually approached her, worried that someone may have already called the police on him for being here. "Excuse me, Mrs. Kent."
"Ma Kent, sweetheart. How was your morning?"
"We are alright, thank you." He muttered. "The others are waiting outside, I don't think Conner will be coming inside."
"Of course, I should go out and see him." Ma was very protective of Conner, so of course she headed right out to see him.
Obviously, the boy and his wolf had drawn the attention of a few passers, including several of Martha's acquaintances, whom she exchanged breif greetings with.
"Is that Clark?" One, Edith Mackenzie asked.
"No, Clark is still in metropolis, but this is my... grandson." Ma explained. "Conner."
"I didn't know Clark had a boy."
"Neither did I." Ma remarked.
Conner frowned, and went to interrupt, but M'gann stopped him over the link.
'Conner, go with it.'
He nodded slowly. "Grandson. Conner." He said, absolutely nailing the whole 'social interaction' thing. "This is Wolf." He turned his full attention back to Wolf.
"Let's head across the street and reserve a table." Dick said, his non human teammates (whom he loved very much) weren't exactly blending in here.
"But Wolf."
"We'll sit on the patio." He replied. "Trust me, I've got this handled." He strut across the street and flounced in the open door to the inn. Conner and Wally (and Wolf) followed.
"Is Clark's boy alright?" One of Ma's friends asked.
"I think Conner is fine." She said.
"He acts strange."
"He's shy." Artemis replied, protectively, her intimidation slightly undermined by her runny nose. Ma gave her a Kleenex.

Eating out- let alone after-church-brunch was something most of the team was unfamiliar with. It seemed like the most middle-class, white christian thing ever, but they didn't hate it. Hell, Wally was adamant that the buttermilk waffles were the best (Except for his auntie Iris', nothing topped that).
Now, they were all digesting, half asleep in the living room, daydreaming about being productive.
"Sweetheart?" Ma beckoned Conner over as she saw him aimlessly wandering. She drew out the kitchen chair next to her. "Sit down."
"I don't need to." He replied.
"Please." She invited. The boy strolled over and took the seat, sitting straight in silence. He didn't seem to realize why someone might invite him to sit down with them. "How are you, darling?"
"Okay."
"Good, I'm glad." She pulled her chair up in front of him. "Son, I want to talk to you."
"Okay." Still his blank expression, not intrigued or curious at all.
"First off, I didn't know of you until The first day we met, and if I had known about you before, I would have reached out to get to know you."
"Okay...?" He asked, a little confusion coming over him.
"Well, sweetheart, I thought I should tell you that I know Superman, very well." The boy stiffened, his glare hardening. "And I want to get to know you better, because I know Superman -your father- personally, and I want you to be apart of the family."
"What does that mean?" Superboy asked, his voice edging with aggression.
Martha wasn't scared, but made a note not to upset the child too much. "Conner, baby, Superman is my son. I'm you're grandmother."
-OOOH CLIFF-HANGER!!!-
