Dogs, Gossip and Names

-above^ what YJ would look like as a sitcom-

-Happy Easter y'all! Here's a little cute content for you folks.-

"WOLF!" Conner dropped to the ground, drumming his palms on the ground and making it shake. Wolf lurched forwards too, wagging, very excited to play. "Good boy!"

Wolf barked deafeningly, tackling his owner onto the grass and attempting to drown him in slobber.

"He barely sat down the entire trip over." M'gan said, tugging at Wolf's leash in vain. "I think he missed you."

"I missed you too!" Conner barely managed to push the tickly muzzle off his face. "Has Red Tornado been feeding you? I bet he didn't give you enough treats?" The beast's ears pricked up at the word 'treats'

"Are you feeling better?" Kaldur asked, amused, as the canine soaked his master in saliva and eagerly nosed Conner's pockets, searching him for biscuits.

He nodded a little, giving Wolf his full attention. He leaned forwards, chest almost on the ground, and darted back and forth a little, playing with wolf. The two did some light play fighting and wrestling on the dusty grass (Which would injure a regular boy or dog, especially when Wolf got excited and mauled on Conner's arm).

The porch door opened, and Conner looked up from the grass. Ma Kent stared in horror and confusion. "Oh Sweet Jesus, what is that?!"

"This is Wolf;" Conner said. "He's my Wolf!"

The woman caught her breath, relieved that her grandson wasn't hurt. The beast was huge and vicious looking. "I thought you were hurt."

"He's just playing." Conner said blankly, not knowing how anyone could be scared of Wolf. The Dog  barked and galavanted towards the door to the house, jerking the leash from M'gann's hand. Conner jumped up. "Wolf! Down boy!"

"Oh my goodness!" The woman staggered back, but remarkably got over her shock. She came to terms with the situation as Wolf returned loyally to Conner. "Is this the dog Megan told me about?"

Conner turned questioningly to the martian, who nodded. "Yes, he's the one." She confirmed.

"Dear, he is beautiful!" Ma Kent confirmed, letting Kaldur stop holding his breath; it was the main thing he'd been worried about.

"I know." Conner's heart fluttered a little. A lot of people were scared of Wolf; he was banned from most dog parks in Happy Harbour (even though Wolf has a leash and there were no size requirement).

"He is so much taller than I realized."

"I know." Conner really wasn't sure what else he should say. "Wolf." He whistled and the dog trotted back over.

Wolf had become a pretty decent support dog recently, he was just as protective of the team as his kryptonian and they both had extremely enhanced senses. Not to mention that Conner didn't have to worry about breaking Wolf and vis versa.

"WOLF!" Dick exclaimed, bouncing out of the house. "Here boy!" He ran, bare foot, across the grass, throwing himself at the dog. Wolf had gotten used to it by now and didn't mind that the thirteen-year-old on his back. "GOOD BOY! Guys! You didn't say you were bringing Wolf back!"

"It was a... last minute decision." Kaldur replied.

Dick hugged the beast around his neck. "Beautiful boy!"

"Oh, Goodness, he is so big." Ma Kent approached,  staring to realize that this was no Krypto; it had a thirteen-year-old Boy on its back with no issue.

"Wolf is over two-hundred-pounds!" Dick replied. "He can even carry Wally or Artemis. Probably M'gann too!"

Wolf let out a little ruff and Dick slid off his back, apologizing to the dog.

Conner put his arms around Wolf's neck and hugged him gently, feeling a bit more safe now that the wolf was here. Wolf licked his cheek a little and Conner's heart shed its heaviness. He loved his dog.

M'gann smiled at the two of them for a few seconds and then remembered why they'd left in the first place. "Artemis! We got your medicine!" She jogged into the house, pulling a little opaque plastic bag from her backpack.
"Hi, we're back!" She pushed open the door where Artemis and Wally were in a competitive game of chopsticks.

"Hi M'gann!" Wally smiled, glancing at her in the doorway.

"Hi." Artemis sniffed. "Didja get it?"

"Oh, yep!" She passed over the bag. Artemis emptied it on her lap.

"FlowNaz, Benadryl, UGH- OLLIE!" She threw down the offending twenty dollar bill. "He needs to stop! I get empty nest syndrome, but I'm not his kid!"

Wally made a reach for the bill. "We'll if you don't want-"

"Are you kidding? It's mine!" She snapped. "But, like, he keeps getting me Skip The Dishes on patrol and offering to show be how to restring my bow- like I don't know!"

"Lucky! He buys you food!?"

"He treats me like the kid he never had.... BUT HE HAD A KID!"

M'gann giggled, covering her mouth. "We brought Wolf over if you want to say hi."

"OOh, Wolf!" Wally got up. They all loved having a dog, no one could stop their love from the comedically oversized canine. He was literally Conner's height on all fours; that's over twice the height of the world's largest non-kobra'd Wolf.

"I'll come say hi in a sec." Artemis tore open the boxes. "Did you know that ten Benadryl has the same effect as LSD?"

The other two stared at her.

"Noted, Arty."

"What? I'm just saying...."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dick had volunteered to do dinner that night, and was completely accustomed to being micromanaged while working.

"Lentil soup?"

"A classic easy meal. This is what my- Grandfather usually gives us if we're on the move and don't have time to eat." Dick chopped vegetables finely.

"It's very impressive for a young boy like you to be cooking. My son didn't learn how to cook for himself until he had to go to university."

"Well, I always helped my parents in the kitchen when I was little, and my grandad could always use the help considering how much he does for us."

"Your grandad sounds like a very active man."

Dick almost laughed as Ma Kent cut it and took the cutting board from him. "You have no idea... So what's it like living in Smallville?"

"Well it's not like it used to be." She admitted. "We have four computers in the library now. and last fall some young student came home and started a 'tech cefé'." She reported. "They're also talking about remolding the old school, but that's just a rumor."

"A lot of Rumors?" Dick asked. "We have some of those in Gotham, but it's so large that there aren't many."

"Well our population is 3,400, so we don't know everyone, but it's pretty close knit. Everyone at church are friends."

"There are only two churches, right?"

"There's a couple more, and even a Jewish temple, in the neighboring town." She said, matter-of-factly. "There aren't many of those out here."

Dick didn't doubt it. He wouldn't be shocked if there wasn't a Mosque in the whole county. "...So have you been in contact with Clark?" He pried gently, mixing the carets and celery into the broth. "Not to pry, or anything..."

"No, I don't mind. We actually talked this afternoon." She replied. "And he's calling me at some point after work."

"Nice." Dick agreed. "You know, Wolf looks just like a Supersized Krypto..."

"I noticed. Megan was showing me pictures of him and we compared them to that photo of Clark in the hall." She exited, wiping her hands on her apron, returning with the photo.

"It's a close comparison." Dick agreed. "I wonder if Krypto will pay us a visit, where is he?"

"Clark is watching him this month in his little fortress."

Dick nodded. "He'll probably want to head back here, I'm sure the fortress gets a little too solitude-y while Clarks at work. Not to mention that all his bones and tennis balls freeze!"

Ma shook her head. "No place for a dog."

Dick decided to push his luck again. "Yeah, and the mountain is no place for a boy, right?"

"Absolutely." She agreed. "I can't believe he's been living in an old meeting room! They should at least let him sleep in the knew one! They should have told me; he can sleep here and have a family to take care of him!"

Dick was thirsty for more family tea. "I agree, totally! I mean, he's paler and more tired-looking than Clark because he doesn't know he needs to go outside! Black Canary- she's a hero who checks on us sometimes, has to check in to be sure he ate because him and M'gann can't take care of themselves."

"Such young people should never have to work to feed themselves while there are adults to take care of them!" She said. "Even if they were as good armature cooks as you."

Dick smiled. "Well, I try. M'gann isn't bad either."

"No." Ma admitted. "She is a bit messy, though." She shared in a low voice. Dick was becoming her confidante. He tended to have that effect on adults.

"That she is." He laughed. "But she's a person of many talents."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"He can sleep on the bioship on the edge on the property." Conner said. Kaldur and M'gann decided the inconspicuousness of parking the bioship out of town was NOT worth the hour hike. Not to mention that Ma was definitely trust worthy.

"Yes, that seems best." Ma agreed. The dog was incredibly large; he didn't need to beg for scraps, he could eat comfortably off the table. Conner had to convince him to lay under the table during dinner, but he didn't even fit.

"Pass the salt." Conner asked. "...please?"

"Here." M'gann gave her the shaker. "It's kind of funny that Human's like to put rocks on their food."

Artemis put her spoon down solomly, staring at her. "M'gann, why would you say that?"

"I've got this." Wally leaned into M'gann and shouted: "PIGTAILS!"

M'gann started, and then blushed, giggling, pulling her hair out of the pigtails. Her shapeshifting could be compelled like that sometimes. "You caught me off guard!" She exclaimed. "Hold on, I can control it!"

"Ringlettes!"

"ARTemis!" She squealed. "I wasn't ready yet!" She shook her hair straight and tried to make a serious face. "Okay go."

"Blonde!" Dick urged. Her hair turned a little lighter, but nowhere close to platinum.

"Green Eyes!" Wally exclaimed.

"Uniform!" Conner tried. Her shirt turned darker, but didn't put her in costume.

Wally decided on a new strategy. "Hey M'gann, remember when we did Karaoke night?" A smile forced its way onto her lips. "Earrings!"

M'gann gave into laughter, slapping her hands over her earlobes where two gold hoop had formed. "You made me laugh!" She accused.

"It's a technique. I used to play graveyard with Robin and had to find some way to win!"

"Ah, the good old days!" The thirteen-year-old grinned. "all I had to do was-" He cleared his throat. "So I went to the mall with MAliSSa..."

Wally snorted, unable to contain himself. "...Still gets me." He cringed.

"It's easy to make you laugh." Dick said.

"Of course it is! watch..." Artemis sucker-punched the back of Wally's head.

"ARTY!" Wally keeled forwards, clutching the back of his head and giggling instinctively.

"Told ya. Wally laughs at everything!"

"Okay, no fighting at the table." Ma told them, not very impressed with Artemis' awesome punch. "It's time to eat, not time to play."

"Sorry." Dick said. "M'gann's been gone all day so we want to play with her powers."

"Yes, well. You can play tomorrow because I'm going to church in the morning. Maybe you could meet me after. There's a restaraunt across the street that everyone goes to brunch at after church."

"What do you think, Kal? Would it blow our secret IDs?"

Kaldur sighed a little. "I suppose they've already seen us in town, so as long as we aren't in our costumes, and act discrete, I can't see an issue."

"Nice! I've never had brunch." Artemis remarked. "That's just fancy early-lunch right."

"Basically." Dick replied. "I think you'd like it, although I doubt we'll be getting mimosas or anything."

"Definitely not." Ma Kent confirmed.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hi Ma."

"Hello, Clark."

"You said you'd call me after work."

"Have you been thinking of names for the boy?" Ma Kent asked.

"I was planning on heading to the fortress, but the signal isn't great, and I didn't know when you'd call..."

His mother wasn't buying any of that. "Is that true?"

Clark paused. "Well I was thinking, uh. I don't remember a lot of Kryptonian..." He explained quickly, trying to think of what she wanted to hear. "But, Uh...  It'll end with El, you know, confirm that he's part of the family."

"Yes..." Martha said. "And?"

"...Kon El?" Despite knowing that his mother didn't know any Kryptonian, Clark still awaited a shout over the phone. "You know, because they named him Conner?"

"That sounds nice, but..." Martha frowned. "Does that mean anything in the language?"

"I don't know. I'll check tonight when I'm feeding Krypto."

"You should send Krypto back to visit. If you want, of course."

"Maybe after the kids leave I'll come to visit and bring him." Clark replied.

Martha thought for a second. "Maybe, though I'd like you to visit at the same time as Conner. We can have a family night."

"Sure, maybe we can do that." Clark relented. "I should get going. I love you."

"I love you. Call tomorrow."

"I will." The superman promised pathetically. His mother wielded infinite power.
