Okay, I will now be dedicating random chapters because why not.
Dedicated to 2ZeroTwo0 - The person that gave me the idea to do this one-shot
I know you don't like MLP, but you're still great! Especially for binge-reading everything in one morning and being the first person to talk in a long time, in a lot of chapters.
+*+ ON WITH THE ONE-SHOT +*+
Goldendrop had never been like Silverstream. While Silverstream frolicked around greeting Hippogriffs happily, Goldendrop just lagged behind, if she ever followed Silverstream at all. While Silverstream always had a wide smile on her face, Goldendrop's just covered the area of a raindrop. While Silverstream could chat all day, Goldendrop could stay locked up in her room all day. While Silverstream prefered summer, Goldendrop prefered winter. While Silverstream acted shameless and clumsy, Goldendrop did things with an analytical brain and a critical mind. While Silverstream had serious anxiety issues over the smallest things, Goldendrop tended to take too much pride in her every accomplishment. It was a wonder why the two were even friends. It was a wonder why Goldendrop found herself holding something she'd never think she'd ever hold.
A letter regarding the Harmonizing Heights Honor rested in her dark green claws. The Harmonizing Heights Honor was founded by Silverstream's grandmother Anemone Mountain. Anemone decided to start the kingdom, which is now known as Hippogriffia, due to the Harmonizing Heights. She had built the very first house of the Hippogriffs there. Every year, the house would be converted into a stage and one special singer who demonstrated all known qualities of a Hippogriff. When Anemone Mountain died, the house was removed and Harmonizing Heights was regarded as somehwat of a holy place, but they still continue the Harmonzing Heights Honor to this day. And today, Goldendrop was the lucky singer.
Goldendrop's claws trembled and the letter glided to the floor effortlessly. She stood up from her pale orange bed and walked over to her window, framed with blue, contrasting well to her sunflower yellow room. The sun was high in the sky, hitting the ocean, making it glimmer and sparkle. Fellow cliffs were on her left, some cliffs higher than the one her house was atop on, some shorter. Goldendrop turned away from the breathtaking view that she got each time she looked out the window and looked at the antique clock sitting on the table to her left. It was about time for Silverstream, her family, and her friends to arrive.
It wasn't like Goldendrop was nervous. More of, concerned. Why did they choose her, of all Hippogriff? She couldn't wait to see the disappointed faces of the Royal Family when they found out that she wasn't cut out for singing. At all. And Silverstream's disappointed face when she found out that her best friend wasn't the embodiment of a perfect Hippogriff. In all honesty, Silverstream was more of a Hippogriff than Goldendrop could ever be, so why did they not choose her instead? And there was, of course, Silverstream's friends who came all the way from the School of Friendship just to witness the Harmonizing Heights Honor for the very first time in all their lives, and they would be very surprised to know that the first singer they would witness wasn't a true Hippogriff. Goldendrop wondered what it would be like if she was a Griffin instead. Griffin are certainly colder compared to Hippogriff, and Goldendrop could fit into the Griffin category just fine.
But all thoughts seemed to scatter as there was a knock on the door. Goldendrop sighed and walked briefly across her room and opened her dark orange door toward the living room. She had no windows here, and she liked it better, but there was beauty in a room with a bed, which was exactly why she often found herself in her bedroom instead of here. She faced the door which was painted in the exact same color as all other doors in her small house. There were small recrangular slits of window all around the door, so maybe it wasn't that dark in here after all. Goldendrop counted to three and threw open the door out wide, but she almost wished she had never done it.
It was Silverstream. Plus her friends.
"Hiya, Goldendrop!" Silverstream said in her usual cheery voice. Goldendrop flinched. She knew that Silverstream was trying to keep everything normal between them. But in truth, nothing never changed. But Silverstream was either oblivious to the fact that things were different now, or was willing to be oblivious, and Goldendrop couldn't argue with the latter. Goldendrop decided to play along. Okay, maybe some things never change.
"Hi, Silverstream," Goldendrop replied in her usual dead-panned voice. Silverstream beamed as she gestured around her friends.
"So this is Smolder," Silverstream said, pointing to an orange dragon with purple scales on the leftmost side. Smolder gave a small wave.
"And this is Yona" Silverstream pointed to a Yak on the left of Smolder. Yona beamed happily.
"Gallus" The blue and yellow Griffin tried on a friendly smile, and it turned out even more awkward than any of them had expected.
"Sandbar" The completely green pony gave a lazy smile.
"Ocellus" The light red and blue changeling smiled politely in reply.
Goldendrop had a good feeling about Ocellus and nodded ever so subtly, the farthest thing she had ever done in acknowledgement to Silverstream's friends. In truth, Goldendrop didn't want to acknowledge any of Silverstream's friends at all. She partly knew that it wasn't entirely their fault that Silverstream had somewhat abandoned her life at Hippogriffia, but Goldendrop was sure it was their fault that the friendship of her and Silverstream had a giang hole, and those new friends were the ones to plug that hole up. Goldendrop didn't like it. Goldendrop didn't like it one bit.
"And this is Goldendrop!" Silverstream proudly said, gesturing to her once-best friend. She looked at her expectantly, motioning for her to say a few words.
Goldendrop sighed and said a very unenthusiastic hi.
Silverstream's smile faltered, and Goldendrop knew that the pink Hippogriff now knew that everything that happened before... well, it just happened before. The past stayed in the past. And despite all this, Silverstream still strived to keep up her happy demeanor.
"So... let's all head to the castle where Goldendrop will practice her piece for the Harmonizing Heights Honor!" Silverstream told her friends, as if she was just narrating Goldendrop's life and not playing an important role in the green Hippogriff's life. And maybe it was true. Maybe Silverstream wasn't playing any role anymore in Goldendrop's life. Goldendrop partly wished that Silverstream could just leave her alone at this point.
Silverstream's friends eagerly chatted away about the Harmonizing Heights Honor, with Silverstream leading them. Goldendrop stayed awhile on the welcome doormat in front of her house until they were a good six feet away, then she started walking right behind them.
The walk to the castle, though, was exceptionally slow for Goldendrop, as she tended to lag behind by a considerable amount. She liked the solitude that was caused by Silverstream and her friends walking ahead of them. And when she liked something, she tried her best to prolong it.
Sadly, all good things must come to an end and she finds herself standing in front of the Royal Gate. Two marble pillars grew from the ground and spikes made from red corals jutted out from the pillars, creating bars. In the middle sat a golden lock in the shape of a seashell, barring unwanted creatures to enter. It had always been trustworthy, up until that moment the Strom King took over Hippogriffia. Though Queen Novo certainly added new, better changes to the security of their entire kingdom.
Silverstream's friends excitedly gather around her as she grabs the necklace made from bits of the Pearl. She brings up the centermost brilliant white piece and hovers it in front of the golden lock and it released, falling in her pink claws.
"There was a time the entire gate opened up, and I'd really want to show them to you, but after the time the Storm King came, we did a few changes," Silverstreams said, pushing open just a little bit so that her friends could enter, albeit one at a time.
Her friends immediately flocked around the castle grounds, admiring the scenery. Some were frolicking in the fields of greenery, specifically Gallus —who never seen so much magnificent flora in one place— Sandbar —who enjoyed nature at any time— and Smolder —who was itching to stretch out her wings— while some gawked at the castle, specifically Ocellus —who wanted to learn more about everything Hippogriff culture-related, including the architecture— and Yona —who wasn't interested in Hippogriff architecture but more on how much of the castle there was to smash.
Silverstream walked out of the garden just in time to see Goldendrop arriving and she happily ushered her inside, immediately closing the Royal Gate right afterwards.
"We have to go to your music practice. Now," Silverstream said, taking Goldendrop's claw and flying through the garden towards the castle in the center that looked exactly like the castle in Seaquestria, but the other way around, what Hippogriff would call right side up and what Seaponies would call upside down.
"But Silverstream," Goldendrop said, violently jerking her claw away from Silverstream's. Silverstream looked at her with eyes full of hurt, but Goldendrop reminded herself that their friendship was over long ago.
"What is it now, Goldie?" Silverstream said in a voice that was already approaching pleading, looking at her best friend with those big purple eyes of her.
Goldendrop shook her head slowly. Silverstream never learned. And yet, for some reason, they both knew that their friendship was on the verge of breaking.
"Why was I chosen, of all Hippogriff?" Goldendrop asked in the most concerned tone she could muster.
Silverstream let out a half-hearted snort and briefly shook her head.
"Oh, Goldie, is a silly question like that is troubling you, you better not ask that because we are about to be late," Silverstream said staring deeply into her past best friend's eyes, hoping to summon up the trust they had for each other a long time ago.
"Come on, now. Let's go," Silverstream said, pulling along her best friend.
They eventually reach the gigantic pink door in the shape of a shell, slit in half for the part which would be the opening. Silverstream knocked rapidly on the door, making Goldendrop wince slightly. The guards inside, which one of them would definitely be her father, were most probably annoyed by the racket. In the past, a Hippogriff could enter the door as they please, only for a short security inspection by the guards. Goldendrop knew that there were more modifications that weren't there before when she last entered the castle. The door was finally opened, but only slightly, by none other than Silverstream's father, General Sea Spray.
"Ah... Goldendrop. Hurry, now. We will begin the practice shortly," Sea Spray said, closing the door behind them and quickly ushered both Hippogriff through the castle, it's pearl walls being lit by lamps.
At the end of the corridor, they arrived at a blue door. Goldendrop couldn't help but think the entire castle was designed for Silverstream, but then she remembered that it was created years ago by Anemone Mountain, so they couldn't have. Sea Spray opened the door.
The music room was just as Goldendrop had remembered it, but also not the way she had remembered it. The walls were still sky blue, of course, and there was still small windows where the light was blindly shining through, but there was definitely a lot less potted plants lying around and way more lamps. There was the Royal Family seated on a soft red velvet couch, and beside them were a small orchestra of Hippogriff with their violins and cellos, flutes and oboes, trumpets and tubas. There wasn't much percussion instruments as the original song didn't involve much of those, and majority of the percussions were xylophones. And, of course, there was the grand piano tucked into the corner of the room, which was one of the most basic instruments ever.
"Your Royal Highnesses, Goldendrop has come," Sea Spray said, taking his seat beside the Royal Family.
The head of the orchestra who was a turquoise hippogriff with a dark yellow mane went forward and approached Goldendrop, holding a piece of paper in his claw.
"Greetings, Goldendrop," the head said, "I am Windchime and this is your piece. Familiarize yourself with it. We will begin shortly"
Goldendrop received the sheet of piece of paper and gulped. Turned out they were pretty serious about her being chosen...
After an hour of practicing, Windchime deemed her ready and sent her off in the middle of the Harmonizing Heights, probably to be gawked off by other Hippogriff.
Goldendrop stood in the middle of Harmonizing Heights, a beautiful nature reserve known for producing its great music. There could have been billions of eyes staring back at her, but she knew that wasn't true. The population of Hippogriffia was just up to a hundred and eighteen million Hippogriff and Seaponies. Some of them probably didn't even come here. But that was still a lot of people. She kept her wings tucked in very tight, a nervous habit. The sky was softly lit by a twilit glow, and there were no spotlights on her, so she shouldn't be worried about what all those Hippogriff would think about her being chosen, but this turned out to be the only thing in her life to get worried about. The music started without warning and Goldendrop began to sing.
"A land of virtue, it's people are one.
We are all trying, and our plan's never done.
The water of a mountain, the land of a sea,
Our beautiful home, Hippogriffia shalt be.
A land we have earned, a cradle to sleep in,
Whatever may be our wars, we shalt always win.
In the face of darkness, we shalt give up not,
In our lives, we shalt give thought."
And in that final moment, Goldendrop burst into tears of embarassment and ran off back to her home. She past the two gigantic statues of Anemone Mountain that marked the entrance to Harmonizing Heights and turned left on the road that would've lead right to her house. When the familiar yellow cottage appeared, she ran right past it and settled on her favorite cliff near her house, the farthest from Hippogriffia. There, she shed out all her tears, every single last one of them, until she cried no further.
Suddenly, she felt a familiar claw on her shoulder and she turned around with her tear-streaked face to see a Silverstream.
"What's wrong?" Silverstream asked in her usual curious voice, though there was a tinge of sympathy in there.
"Why?" Goldendrop said in one huge exhale. The tears started to build up in her eyes again and she let them fall into the dark waters below.
"Why?" Goldendrop repeated again with a little more force and struggle of breath, "Why did they choose me?"
"Goldie..." Silverstream said in a calm and consoling voice, "We chose you because you're a team-player, and you never ever ever give up. Those are the main traits Anemone Mountain wanted Hippogriff to have, and, to be honest, most of us lacked that. I believe you lagged behind and tried to fight with the Storm King's guards?"
"Yeah," Goldendrop said, letting out a short laugh that came out as more of an brief exhale than a laugh, "I did..."
"You will always have Hippogriff Heritage with you, okay?" Silverstream said, reaching her arms out wide for a hug, "Come here!"
And the two friends, reunited once more.

Hello, there. Long time no see. But not really. Gosh, I really hope I got the instruments right. I am a big fan of classical music and yet I cannot name a single musician or instrument. Okay, maybe I can name some instruments, but still. I guess I just get a random playlist and listen to it. The song's pretty lame, I know, especially the Middle English element, but YOLO. Besides, Anemone's Mountain's pretty old. Get over it. Also, not an angst attempt, 2ZeroTwo0. Semi-angst, I guess?
And 2ZeroTwo0, my good friend, I have also only included two timeskip stuff, but I am rather fond of you naming them.
Remember to spread the Magic of Friendship!
