Riley loved being able to sleep next to Sam, he loved being in the comfort of Riley's room so they could cuddle and they wouldn't get in trouble for it. Riley couldn't help but stare at Sam as he watched him sleep, the way all the worry seemed to drift off of Sam during his sleep. "Why are you staring at me?" Sam asks his rough with sleep. "You just look so cute." Riley gently kissed Sam's nose, Riley put his hand on Sam's cheek and rubs with his thumb. Sam shuffled and leaned Riley's chest, letting out a contented sigh when he was comfortable.
"I noticed you didn't sleep well last night." Sam must have been too sleepy to hear the teasing tone of his voice because Sam just shook his head. "It's because you weren't sleeping on rocks wasn't it." Riley teased holding Sam a little tighter.
It was an ongoing joke in their squadron because Sam liked sleeping on rocks much more than the shitty cots they supplied. "Stop teasing me, what time is it?" Sam blinked slowly before bringing his hand up to rub his eyes. Riley glanced at the clock that was on Sam's side and read the time to Sam. "12:42 pm, Mom let us sleep in." Sam smirked, Maricela had a soft spot for Sam. She didn't get to see him yesterday because Riley and Sam turned in to sleep early.
"What do you want to do today?" Riley asked watching as Sam turned on his back to face the ceiling, they felt the bed dip as Acacia jumped on the bed weaseling her way in between Sam and Riley to get some morning pets. "I don't know, what do you want to do today?" Sam held up his hand and Acacia bumped her head towards his hand requesting pets.
Riley hums and runs his hand along Acacia's back before grabbing Sam's hand that wasn't occupied by the cat. "I just want to spend time with you, whether that's staying here or going to eat, shopping whatever. I just want to be with you." Sam looks at Riley with a smirk on his face.
"Have you heard from Lina or Palmer lately?" Unlike most squadrons, the 58th rescue squadron was made up of people from different air force bases, it's supposed to be the best of the best. "Lina texted me a couple of days ago to see if I made it but I haven't heard from Palmer since we said our goodbyes." Sam shrugged. "That's normal though, we have his girlfriend's number in case we need to check on him." Riley nodded. Palmer didn't like phones, he didn't see a use for them so there would be a gap between the texts between them all whereas Lina kept up with them, Palmer didn't care that much about communicating when they were all back in the states.
Riley looked at the clock and groaned, he knows they should get up but Riley wants to stay in this moment forever with Sam and of course giving Acacia the pats she deserves. "We don't have to get up, we can stay here forever." It spooked Riley when Sam did that, even though they've been together for a year Sam could read Riley like a book. "No, we need to get up. Get the day started, figure out if we're gonna do something together or not. Do you have any cool things you wanna do today?" Riley asked Sam as they were getting out of bed, Riley picked up Acacia and put her on the floor so they can make the bed. "Honestly, just chilling here sounds like a good idea. Maybe we can go visit your Mom at her restaurant?"
All while they were making the bed with military-like precision Riley had this goofy smile on his face, he couldn't have asked for a better boyfriend than Sam. "I think that's a good idea. How did I get so lucky? Huh?" Riley walked over to Sam's side that he slept on, Riley put his hand on Sam's chest. Sam put his hand on top of Riley's and brought their joined hands to his lips to kiss Riley's hand. "I would have to disagree because I think I'm the lucky one, I don't deserve you." They leaned closer until they pressed their lips together.
"If we're gonna go to Mom's restaurant we need to stop kissing and get ready," Riley said when they pulled back for some air. "I would like to kiss more though." Sam playfully pouted but followed Riley towards his closet, not only did Sam bring his own clothes but he always left some clothes with Riley, just in case. They did that after Sam made an impromptu trip to Texas and they had to buy clothes from Target.
It didn't take them long to change, after all, they were used to changing quickly in the desert so changing in an air-conditioned house felt like a luxury for them. Riley jogs up the stairs to grab bottles of water for the two of them. "I got your water," Riley yelled to Sam who was still downstairs. "Thanks, this little miss doesn't want us to go," Sam said as he walked upstairs with the cat in his arms.
Riley smiles and pets her on the head. "I'll give her food before we go." Sam nods and takes a seat at the kitchen table as he watches Riley pop open a can of cat food, of course, Riley feeds his cat the fancy stuff. "Only you would feed her wet cat food that costs what?" Sam looks at Riley expectantly waiting for him to answer.
"25 cans was 30 dollars." Riley grins, he rolls his eyes when Sam looks at him shocked. "This cat better live until she's one hundred," Sam grumbles watching as Acacia weaves in between his legs until she sees that Riley put out her cat food.
"Trust me, she's gonna outlive all of us."
