Strange
Soft sounds of running water filled the air, replacing the familiar sound of beeping from the machines. The slight pinch of the iv in his hand was no longer present.
Jin opened his groggy eyes to light blue walls with pictures of forest sceneries and waterfalls. Not the boring white plaster walls of the hospital room he resided in before.
Where am I?
Jin questioned, slowly propping himself up on the headboard of the small bed. This room was peaceful, soothing even. Even the tile flooring could be considered relaxing.
"You're awake." Gracie smiled at him from the doorway. She now wore pastel blue scrubs that hugged her shapely hips and a pair of rainbow crocs.
"Where am I?" Jin questioned, this time out loud.
"You are at Dr. Min's state of the art dream scope center."
"DreamScope center?"
Gracie nodded, picking up a clipboard that sat on the end table. She flipped a few pieces of paper, looked up at the clock, then jotted a few things down.
"Are you hungry?" She asked, tilting her head to the side as she looked at him. Jin thought about her question, taking in his surroundings once more.
Why would he be in a place for dreams? He doesn't dream anymore.
"Yes..."
"Great, I will dream you up something magical. Be back in two cat naps."
Jin shook his head with a smile. Gracie was a breath of fresh air in his chaotic world. He wondered why he couldn't remember her and yet today she seemed more familiar than she had when he first met her.
Gracie returned with a tray of food. Not the average hospital food you'd normally get. It was a burger from the local burger joint and some fries.
"This looks great." His mouth watered from the smell of bacon. He couldn't wait to sink his teeth into it. How did she know how he liked his burgers?
Maybe it was just luck. Without a second thought he took a huge bite, groaning.
"Mmmph...this is so good."
Gracie chuckled at his approval. Something about her little chuckle tickled Jin's brain. He glanced at her while she busied herself with the contents in a cabinet. Her hair fell down her back in waves. How she stood on her tiptoes to reach the top shelf for some towels.
"What are you doing?" Jin asked with his mouth full. Gracie turned around holding some towels with some shampoo and soap on top.
"These are for you to shower... you've been asleep for three days."
Three days? He literally just fell asleep in the hospital.
"What?"
"You had a rough spell a few days back. So the doctors thought it best to give you a sedative to help you sleep." Gracie watched him carefully, setting the towel down at the edge of the bed.
"I'm so tired of this..." Jin sighed, putting down his burger. Gracie smiled at him sympathetically.
"Don't you worry, Dr. Min and I will help you." She assured him. Gracie stood at the end of the bed, her hand resting on the rail just watching him. Jin wasn't bothered by her at all. However, he felt rude eating in front of her.
"Uh— do you want some fries?" He gestured to the box on his tray. Gracie smiled happily, taking a seat beside him, grabbing a fry.
"Thank you."
Jin simply smiled. A memory tugged at the back his mind.
Y/N and Jin were at the fair, they stood waiting in line for one of the food trucks. Y/N bouncing happily on her toes, her hair pulled up in a messy bun with her favorite green plaid button up. Wearing the skinny jeans he loved so much.
It didn't matter what she wore. Jin found her to be the most breathtaking person he had ever seen.
"Oh look, Jinnie!" She chirped in her singsong tone. "They have chili cheese fries!"
Jin kissed her forehead.
"Is that what you want?"
Y/N beamed up at him. He caressed her cheek turning to the vender to get the fries for her. After that they wandered over to a tent where a local band played so they could sit and share the fries.
Swaying happily as she enjoyed her messy fries, Jin couldn't take his eyes off her.
How he missed Y/N so damn much.
"You okay?" Gracie asked, noticing the crestfallen look upon his face.
"I just want to wake up."
"You are awake..."
Jin shook his head, staring blankly at the painting of a cascading waterfall of iridescent colors in front of him. This reality as Dr. Min has called it, is a nightmare.
A light tap on the doorframe broke his thoughts. There in the doorway stood the doctor himself. He had a chagrin look on his face.
"Gracie— what are you doing in here?" His tone sounded that of annoyance. She smiled sheepishly at him, scurrying past Dr. Min out the door. He watched her disappear down the hall then turned to look at Jin.
"Sorry. She wasn't supposed to be here."
"She wasn't bothering me."
Dr. Min cleared his throat, taking out his phone. Glaring at it like it had vexed him further.
"Are you okay, Yoongi?"
The doctor wiped his face with his hand, tucking his phone away once more.
"Just fine. How are you feeling?"
"Well I was great until you walked in with your strange attitude towards Gracie."
"Who?" Dr. Min looked confused for a second. "Oh yea—right" he chuckled awkwardly.
Why was he acting so weird? Although he seemed rather eccentric to start with.
"Okay, so you know where you are? She explained that to you, right?"
Jin nodded, adjusting his position on the bed. Dr. Min sat in the chair with his legs crossed.
"Good. We will start the tests tomorrow. Have you dreamed lately?"
"No more dreams... just pitch black darkness. I almost prefer it to this—hell."
Dr. Min sighed, looking down at his blinking phone.
"I have to take this."
The name on the screen was Y/N. But didn't Dr. Min said he didn't know her? Or did Jin imagine that?
Quickly the doctor left the room.
Jin had so many questions and he was starting to distrust the odd doctor.
