Friend
"Jump Jin." Her voice was like music to his ears. Jin spun around in the darkness of the dreamscope searching for an inkling of her face. Her shapely figure or simply a glimmer of the memories that were starting to fade.
"Y/N!" He cried out, hands searching through the void. Whispers filled the space. Things they used to say to each other. A nickname she had given him the day they met in that dusty old bookstore.
"Prince Jin."
Jin's eyes opened wide when the light flooded the small room. All around black spots danced about his vision from harsh fluorescents. As usual the wave of nausea hit him while he yanked the sticky stickered wires from his temples.
"Anything today?" Dr Min's cool lazy voice asked. Jin frowned, rubbing his head.
"Everyday in this place her memories fade faster. Everything else remains the same. Why is that? Why is she the only one disappearing!?" Jin sobbed.
Dr. Min glanced at the ceiling, trying to prevent a tear from falling. He had hoped that his studies would work and that he could find a way. All it did was erase them.
Every last one of them. Faster.
Deep in his pocket his phone buzzed relentlessly. Which made the situation worse. Why would he call now?
"Excuse me, I have to take this." Dr. Min made his escape before Jin could protest.
Jin screamed at the retreating doctor.
"Liar!!! You said you would help me! You lied!!"
He continued to scream curses at the door where the doctor had escaped through until it opened and a familiar face appeared.
"Jin?"
Fervently he wiped his eyes, squinting to see her more clearly.
"Gracie?"
"Dr. Min said you might be a little upset after today's dreamscope therapy."
"Tortures more like it." Jin mumbled.
"He only wants to help... this is hard on him too. His—" Gracie stopped, moving to pick up the wires Jin had dropped on the floor. When she scooped down to gather them, her hair fell in red ribbons around her face.
Did she change her hair color? Or had it always been that way. Jin pondered, watching every move she made.
Her hair had that warm autumn sun glow to it.
Y/N's hair was like that of an Autumn sun too. Some days they would head down to the park just to play in the fallen leaves. How she would dance around, tossing the leaves above her head. She'd laugh and then jump into his arms, riddling his face with endless kisses.
Jin's hand drifted to his cheek. He could almost feel her soft lips against his cheek. Sighing, he swung his legs to the side of the bed. Letting them dangle while his shoulders hunched over and warm tears replaced the feeling of sweet gentle kisses.
"Y/N..." He cried softly.
Gracie frowned, standing up to put the wires on top of the ticking machine.
"Jin?"
Once again he wiped at his eyes. Trying hard to cover up the tears that had fallen.
Gracie sat down beside him, sliding her small hand into his larger one. Her fingers barely curling over the knuckles on his.
Jin stared at their hands for some time, before slowly looking up into her blue eyes.
"I just—"
"Gracie!" Dr Min's tone had darkened since he left the room before.
Instantly she yanked her hand away, rushing past the angry man.
"What did she say?" He glared at Jin.
"You pretty much heard what she said." Jin shrugged, not moving from his hunched over position. He felt like throwing up, chills running up his spine.
"Good. There is someone here who wants to talk to you."
"Thought it was best I didn't talk to anyone."
"This person you don't know. So it's not going to bother you."
"Right. Whatever." Jin rolled his eyes. Probably just another nurse. Someone who would look at the scans that were taken during his dream session.
"What's with the attitude?" The doctor inquired, swiping at the screen of his phone.
"Oh I don't know. Maybe the fact that you're not helping me!" Jin glared at the distracted man.
Yoongi's dark hair hid the disappointment that spread across his pale face. He wanted to be more helpful, it's just he could only do so much. They had to figure it out on their own before the memories were completely erased.
The dreamscope was designed as a tool to help aid them in finding their soulmates. Except in the distorted memories the soulmate takes on different personas based on memories of other people.
However, Jin's comatose reality was painfully more tangible than others he had helped. It was almost as if he had lived another life in a different reality and in many ways he did.
"You still have time."
"Time?"
"Yes. If you will just be a little more patient with the treatment and listen to what my friend has to say."
Jin folded his arms, he was just so tired. What could his friend say that could possibly help him? Especially if the dreamscope hadn't given him a glimmer of hope.
He let out an exasperated breath, glanced at the doctor with skepticism.
"Fine."
"Thank you." Dr. Min smiled, leaving the room once more. A moment later a nurse appeared. In her hands she hand a neatly folded stack of clothes and a pair of white with lace up shoes.
"Put these on." She held them out to him. Jin raised a brow, taking them from her. Quietly she stood there staring at him, unmoving.
Jin cleared his throat.
"Uh— could I have a little privacy?"
The nurse made a squeak sound. "Oh— dear me, sorry"
She hurried out the door, the tips of her ears a bright red. Jin waited a few minutes, his hands resting on the soft knit sweater. The green and blue stripes reminded him of a shirt that Y/N used to love on him.
He pulled the sweater over his head, breathing in the scent of fresh lilacs.
"You're still not dressed?" Yoongi's incredulous tone interrupted Jin's thoughts. He was still sitting in his boxers with the sweater over his head.
Quickly he pulled the sweater on all the way, then grabbed the faded jeans. He shuffled into them and then slipped on the shoes.
"Got lost in thought."
Dr. Min simply nodded.
"What's with the outfit?"
"You are going to visit my friend."
"Oh—- they aren't here?"
Dr. Min looked at Jin like he was dumb.
"No."
Jin shrugged, standing up. He was pessimistic with the tiniest glimmer of hope that Dr. Min's friend could help.
"Lead the way."
