Disappointment

"It doesn't make sense." Yoongi groaned, slamming another notebook closed.

None of it made sense anymore. Hoseok seemed to be doing fine now. Jin still had headaches for some things but overall he was doing well. Jimin however showed no sign of returning.

Out of anger he threw the green notebook at the wall splaying the pages everywhere. He then fell into his chair defeated, a lone tear trickling down his pale cheek. A lump forming in his chest ready to break the dam he had been holding back for so long.

There had to be something he was missing. Something that didn't add up.

Could it truly be because he lied to Jimin in the beginning? Allowed him to believe that they had always been together. His selfishness in wanting to be his best friend's true love.

Did that break Jimin?

Did his fiancé somehow visit him when he was in his coma so that he knew who she was? How could he forget? Where was she now?

The reality of that is the woman never came around until she found out about him and Jimin being together.

Yoongi sighed, staring longingly at the smiling man in the picture on the shelf.

"How long must I wait?"

A light tap came from behind the door. Yoongi frowned, he didn't want any company. He needed to find a way to fix the damage he had done. Even if it meant he couldn't be with him the way he wanted to. Having Jimin around was better than not having him at all.

He got up to answer the door, only to stop when his phone chimed.

:New Message From Unknown: Did Hoseok ever describe the paintings? This is Jin. In case you were wondering.

He glanced over at the green notebook on the floor. It's spine is face up with all the pages askew.

Yoongi couldn't remember if Hobi ever described them
in his notebook.

:Reply to Jin: I'll look.

He set his phone down the desk, ignoring the chime from it. Yoongi then got up and sat down on the floor next to the notebook. He stared at it for a long time
before he decided to actually look through it once more.

His heart was heavy. He didn't care about the paintings for Hobi anymore. He didn't need them. So why is Jin so concerned with knowing what they looked like?

Unless he knows something...

Yoongi thumbed through the notebook to the page about the gallery.

Nothing.

Nothing about how they looked. All Hobi said was if he saw them again, he'd know.

He sighed heavily, exhaustion coursing through his body. Life just didn't seem fair anymore. Each day gets a little darker the longer he lives without hearing the sound of Jimin's laugh.

Why couldn't he just snap out of it?

Yoongi messaged Jin back telling him he found nothing. Only to receive a message back telling him that he found the paintings Hobi had seen in his coma.

They were Gracie's.

Apparently Jin had gone to Gracie's and she showed him her old artwork. So he snapped a few pictures and sent them to Hobi who instantly responded.

Once again Yoongi was happy for his friend Hobi. Meanwhile his mind teetered dangerously on edge of darkness.

"I can't believe it." Gracie murmured, staring down at one of the colorful canvases. She knew she'd never talked about the paintings to him. She didn't talk about them to anyone.

So how did he know what they looked like?

Penelope and Namjoon stood in the doorway to Gracie's room. Penelope fiddled with the hem
of her shirt which told Gracie that she wanted to
say something.

Jin sat smiling down at her from the edge of her bed. Everything made sense now. He was content in the friendship they had formed and hoped they could be more.

He was also overjoyed in being able to help Hobi find his inspiration. That man could dance like nobody's business. However, Gracie was troubled. She'd never shown anyone her paintings, until today.

She looked over at her sister. Namjoon had her chin in his hand tilted up towards his face. He had a worried expression.

Penelope closed her eyes, taking a deep breath before taking his hand and looking over at Gracie once more.

"Remember the beautiful man I met at the club one time after dad had passed?"

Gracie nodded slowly. Namjoon knitted his brows. Jin's eyes scanned everyone's faces. Only to return to Gracie's.

"I—uh... I met him again. He um... he came here and we had talked about our passions. His love of dance and mine—" Penelope hesitated, her hands fiddling with her shirt a bit more.

"Okay... what does that have to do with my paintings?"

Penelope looked like she wanted to cry at this point.

"I showed him your paintings—- I told him they were mine." She fumbled the words quickly, then buried her face in Namjoon's chest. His expression stunned, his arms wrapped around her slowly. He then looked over at Jin.

Jin stared at him with a blank expression.

Gracie said nothing.

It would seem once again someone had tampered with someone's memories. However this happened before his accident. But how soon before?

"Did you see him again after that night?"

Penelope's eyes drifted up to Namjoon's face. He was still staring at Jin.

"I never saw him again after. I thought he lost interest." She mumbled.

"Let me see your phone." Gracie demanded. Penelope looked confused.

"What, why?"

"Just let me see it."

Penelope hesitantly pulled out her phone, taking note of Namjoon's arms falling limp by his sides.

She held her phone out to Gracie with a shaky hand.

Gracie took it quickly. Opening up the messages she scanned through them, pausing on one that alarmed her. Then shortly after the one named 'Sunshine Dancer.'

Jin moved to sit by Gracie on the floor, careful not to sit on her artwork.

"I thought you said he lost interest?" Gracie questioned, reading through the messages.

"He never showed up that night... even after he said he would." Penelope argued, folding her arms across her chest.

"I told you, I had a patient come in that night. I even told you his name. You didn't say a word."

Penelope looked up at Namjoon. He was looking at her as if she were a stranger now.

Her demeanor changed in that moment from upset to angry.

"Really? I have a one night stand before I even meet you and this is how you react?" Penelope put her hands on her hips. Namjoon didn't respond.

"Penelope, stop."

"Seriously." Penelope snapped at Gracie. Jin's phone chimed, causing her to glare at him.

"Why didn't you say you knew him?" Gracie asked.

Penelope shifted on one leg, glancing at Namjoon who pretty much became a statue. He seemed to be at a loss for words. She rolled her eyes, looking back at her sister.

"Because he probably would have forgotten about me and went off with some other person."

Gracie frowned.

"You don't know that."

Jin showed Gracie his phone. Yoongi was on his way over. He wanted to see the paintings and talk to them as well.

Gracie went through her sister's messages again. Opening one she wasn't so sure she wanted too. Her heart sank when she read the last message.

How did she not know about this? Had she been so busy that she did not realize it before?

Jin wrapped an arm around her shoulder.

"You okay?" He whispered. Gracie shook her head slowly. Jin peered down at the screen to see what made her uneasy. His eyes darted to Penelope. Who pursed her lips in frustration.

"What are you looking at?"

Namjoon discreetly walked out of the room. A few moments later the front door opened and closed.

Jin leaned over, whispering in Gracie's ear.

"It's going to be okay."

He then kissed her temple. Penelope watched every move Jin made.

"I'm not a bad person, Gracie. You know that. You know me better than anyone."

"Do I?" Gracie's tone was flat. She showed no emotion.
Jin carefully picked up all the paintings around the room, placing them in the closet for the time being. He wasn't sure about Penelope.

"How can you even ask that? We're twins."

" We have some similarities in looks. Aside from that we share nothing in common. To include artistic abilities."

Penelope scoffed.

"You think your paintings are better than mine? Besides you stopped painting. So who really has the better artistic ability? I just sold one of mine for 300,000 dollars."

"Good for you." Gracie retorted. Jin stood behind Gracie. He wanted to say something. He shouldn't say it. Alas he needed to point out something.

"You realize the only reason she stopped was for you. She also wanted to help people. Where it seems you only use people."

"What are you? Her knight in shining armor?"

Gracie looked up at Jin. His handsome face stern as he had a standoff with Penelope. Sure she could call him a knight. However, she always saw him as a Prince.

"I'm whatever she needs or wants me to be."

Penelope mocked him when he spoke. Gracie didn't recognize her sister anymore. There had been a time when her parents sent her away because she was having anger issues. Gracie thought that when she came back she had gotten better. Seeing her now...

Clearly whatever they did didn't help.

"She's a disappointment. You could do better."

"Stop, Penelope." Gracie started to say something else until she felt Jin's arms wrap around her and his head rest on her shoulder.

Any other time her face would be very red. However in this moment she felt safe and comforted.

It was the words that made her blush.

"She is perfect in every way. I think you are confused on who is really a disappointment here."

Penelope looked over her shoulder. Only to look back at them, her expression was a bit more angry.

The doorbell sounded, Gracie got up quickly and ran for the door. Jin stood back up, his eyes locked on Penelope. Who glared at him.

Jin could hear Yoongi's lazy drone from outside the room. Gracie talking swiftly, their voices growing louder as the drew closer to the door. Gracie stepped back into the room, moving over to Jin.

Yoongi stood behind Penelope, frozen in place. Gracie had warned him. In truth.

He just wasn't ready.
