Coma Friends
A few weeks had gone by since Gracie started her first rounds on the night shift. Police officers came and went, getting a full work-up on the car accident that had caused so much grief. She found herself floating from one room to the other. However, she found herself in Hoseok's room, he seemed to never have visitors.
That was until Dr. Min returned.
Dr. Min was released from disciplinary actions due to the circumstances. The board said if he acted out in such a manner again there would be consequences.
So he had been very careful not to put a toe out of line.
He thanked Gracie for all her help in relaying information while still maintaining her work load. He even made it a point to take her out to the new noodle bar that opened up about a week ago.
That's where she met the sweetest guy named Benny. He knew all about noodles and what went well with it. However he didn't tell her that the ghost peppers weren't actually little peppers shaped like ghosts.
Her mouth burned for what seemed like hours. All the while Yoongi was dying from laughter.
"It wasn't that funny." Gracie remarked, checking the IV drip at Jim's bedside.
"Oh it was pretty funny. Have you honestly never heard of ghost peppers before?"
"If I had... I would not have ordered them."
Yoongi smirked only to sigh, looking over Jin's chart.
"His vitals are good, blood work is normal. I just don't understand why he hasn't woken up."
"Could it be the way he hit his head?" Gracie inquired.
"No....because Hobi is in the same condition and his head hit the steering column."
"He also has the brain bleed."
Yoongi threw up a hand.
"Don't remind me."
"Sorry."
Yoongi placed the chart back on the end of the bed. He glanced at Jin once more before walking out. Gracie took a seat beside the bed, pulling out her phone.
"Prince Jin, you know if you wake up now it'll be fall. The leaves are falling in golds and red colors. It's beautiful. I'm so glad summer is over... my thighs don't agree with shorts." Gracie's cheeks flushed in embarrassment. Probably shouldn't have added that last bit.
"Anyways, you take your time. Maybe you'll wake up when it starts to snow. You could make a snowman or
something."
Gracie smiled, getting up to leave. She lingered there watching the steady rise and fall of his broad chest. Her eyes wandered up to his full lips up to his closed eyes.
"Sleep well Prince Jin." She whispered, leaving the room quietly.
"Would not recommend catching feelings for the comatose." Yoongi says with a warning tone. Almost as if he had experienced something similar.
Gracie wouldn't admit that she had feelings for the handsome young man in the room behind her. She didn't have too. Her face changing to a slight pink said it for her.
She wasn't sure why she did. He didn't talk to her. He didn't reciprocate the same feelings. That was impossible due to his current situation. He was a mystery to her, someone she wouldn't dare talk to due to her lack of confidence.
Yoongi was right, she shouldn't. She'd only be hurt in the end when her sister found him. Meaning he'd have to be awake by then.
Gracie sighed heavily, "Only in my dreams."
"Maybe just wait and shoot your shot when he wakes up?" Yoongi offered, trying to be a good friend. That's what they were at this point, right?
"Heh-heh and be pushed to the side once he meets my sister... not a chance."
She didn't hate her sister. It just seemed like anyone Gracie had ever liked, thought she was cute and always went for her sister.
"You think that guy in there would do that?"
Gracie glanced back through the doorway at the unconscious man.
"I couldn't say to be honest."
"What can't you say?" A low man's voice echoed down the hall. Both of them looked to see a tall man with hair swept to the side neatly, wearing blue jeans and a black t-shirt. Gracie instantly clammed up.
"Can I help you—?" Dr. Min asked, side-eyeing Gracie.
"My name's Namjoon. What did she mean by that?" He asked again. Yoongi's face went from friendly to hostile in a split second. He looked like he was about to pounce on Namjoon.
"Uh—uh nothing. Nothing at all." Gracie interjected, placing her hands on Yoongi's chest to keep him from doing something stupid.
"Remember your place." She whispered.
"What's his deal?"
"Nothing he's fine."
"He looks like he ate a batch of bad chili."
Gracie squinted at Yoongi's face.
"He doesn't look sick to me." She looked at Namjoon.
"Why are you avoiding the question?"
This time Yoongi answered, a bit too scary for Gracie's liking.
"What part of 'nothing' don't you understand, pretty boy?"
"Yoongi." Gracie warned. He narrowed his eyes up at Namjoon who now looked like he might cry.
"I'm sorry... I just want to know if he's ever going to wake up... I should have never got behind the wheel that night— I..."
Yoongi's face softened, it was if he saw himself in Namjoon.
"He's going to pull through. Just like my friend, Hoseok."
"What? What happened to him."
"Exact same thing that happened to your buddy."
Namjoon stared at him confused.
"Drunk driver."
His mouth formed an O at Yoongi's response.
"I'm sorry." Namjoon whispered, moving to go into Jim's room.
Yoongi watched until he realized Gracie's hands were still on his chest. He looked down at them, then at her face.
"Uh-hmmm."
Gracie jerked her hands back quickly, blushing.
"I—uh... yea okay. Rounds. Bye." Gracie scurried off towards whatever room she could find. Hiding behind the door for a few minutes.
Why does she always get so flustered? She didn't even do anything. If anything he could have said thank you.
"This room isn't part of your rounds, Gracie."
Yoongi popped his head in the room, making her jump. He smirked at her, waiting for her to come out.
"How do you know?"
"Because, I'm a doctor."
"That doesn't mean anything." Gracie argued. Yoongi wrapped an arm around her shoulders.
"It sure does. Also, what are you up to after your shift?"
"I—uh..."
"Don't overthink it. I just want to get some pancakes. I know a place. You down, Y/N?"
"That's not my name."
Yoongi smirked.
"Oh but it is."
"How did you even—"
Yoongi raised an eyebrow emphasizing on what he said earlier.
"Never mind. I'll go so long as you never call me that again."
"No promises."
"You're impossible. I've got rounds." Gracie pulled out her tablet, shaking her head as she checked the list of patients she needed to see.
"Catch you later!" Yoongi called after her when she turned the corner.
That man.
