Renjun
He's shaken. Of all the people that could end up being Shotaro's roommate, Lee Jeno is one of them. Fucking karma and fate messing with him.
Renjun couldn't move. He didn't know what to do or say, so he watched Jeno make a lame ass excuse before leaving. Bullshit because he knows for a fact Jeno must have been hungry. He doesn't come for food unless he needs to. He stands in the kitchen, staring at the half of pizza that belongs to him. The moment he saw it, he thought of Jeno, but then he told himself that there was no way it could be his.
"Ren, come and eat something." Minghao tugs the sleeve of his sweater and Renjun looks up. "We still want to watch the movie."
He eats a slice of pizza and calls it there. He only does it to appease Minghao who he knows will bug him to eat. It's not about the movie and that they can't eat in the rooms. It's about Minghao realizing that seeing Jeno affected him and he wants to make sure it doesn't change him eating or not. Renjun isn't like that though, and tells Minghao he wasn't that hungry to begin with.
The room has fallen victim to silence, uncertainty hanging in the air. He doesn't blame it. Shotaro had no idea he and Jeno knew each other, Sicheng and Jun doesn't know Renjun has bumped into Jeno once before since the passing and Minghao knows exactly the affect it had on him and how out of whack he seemed to be. They're not sure what to say or how to say it.
"How do you and Jeno know each other?" Shotaro looks at him earnestly. His hands are folded in front of him and he shuffles closer to the table like it will help him hear better, assuming Renjun will just spill it all. He will, because Sho is the only one who doesn't know and he deserves to if they're friends.
Shotaro and him only became friends in second year. Two years after Jaemin's passing. By then, he'd reinvented himself and cut off the mourning period. He never mentioned another word of it. Initially, he didn't want to tell Shotaro either.
But apparently the Gods wanted him to.
"We used to date," Renjun says finally, looking away from Minghao and Jun. He can see the questions brimming in Shotaro's eyes, and hopes to limit them as he continues speaking. "We were in a polyamory relationship until our partner passed away."
Jaemin. He comes in like a hurricane, a hug so wild, Renjun stumbles as he gets to his feet. He's been doing well in pushing the thoughts away, but apparently not today.
He should have realized sooner that the death would affect Jeno. He should have known Renjun leaving would have affected him too. They were inseparable. They were voted best relationship in high school. You could never find one of them without finding the other two. They were the type of people who walked three in the street and laughed when other people yelled at them. Who ordered each other's food. Who comforted in times of need.
If Jaemin was gone and Renjun walked away, who did Jeno have to comfort him?
Clearing his throat, Renjun takes the plates to the kitchen, telling them to head to the room in the mean time. He's looking around the kitchen when Shotaro comes up behind him and hands him a plate.
"His room is next to mine," Shotaro says, smiling before disappearing around the corner. Of course Shotaro would pick up on what he's doing. Then again, he isn't being subtle. It's painstakingly obvious. Renjun scoffs, but warms up three slices of the potato pizza before heading upstairs to where Shotaro's room is.
There's no way he'll be the reason Jeno doesn't eat.
He sets down a plate and knocks on the door. When there's no response, he continues knocking, only stopping when he hears a grunt of a response and the sound of footsteps approaching the door. Before it opens, Renjun slips into Shotaro's room and closes the door. He joins Minghao on the bed and pulls his knees to his chest.
"What movie are we watching?"
"Train to Busan."
"You hate me."
