Sky looks at the outside condition of the building the children were housed in and she isn't pleased. It looks barely stable, the roof is remarkably intact from what she can see but the rest leaves a lot to be desired.
They let themselves into the building and the smell makes her furious. Urine and feces likely from unchanged diapers from the youngest of the pups or from garbage not dealt with. Either way it is unacceptable.
There are no adults to greet them and the children look scared to see the grownups especially one of the alphas. The children do their best to hide from them and it makes Sky's heart hurt and it ignites a fire of fury inside her.
They hear sounds of flesh being hit and a child's cry of pain and that makes Sky take off in the direction of the sound. What Sky sees makes her blood boil. A child no older than six at most is on the floor his back covered in red markings from the beating he's receiving from the female holding a rod and hitting him.
The female doesn't hear or notice the three adults entering the room and so she is rather shocked that the rod doesn't fall once more like she had started to strike with.
Only then does she look away from her victim quivering on the floor and notice that the luna holds the rod and keeps her from hitting the child. Then she notices Alpha Ellis and Wyatt as well.
Only after the female stops trying to fight the luna to whip the boy does Sky take her eyes off the female and look around. There are at least three more adults in this room and they are all avidly watching the punishment. There are also several children that are silently crying already and hunching in on themselves or are watching in horror. They seemed to be lined up and waiting for their turn.
"What is the meaning of this Alpha Ellis?" The female demands. She doesn't recognize the luna.
"I have a better question for you Ellis, who is this bitch?" Sky asks her shocked mate.
"She is the headmistress of the orphanage, Claire Monteblanc." Ellis tells her starting to regain his composure. He feels that the female won't be headmistress for long. From the state of things he doesn't think any of the workers will be remaining in the orphanage for much longer.
"Call Kacey and tell him that the children need medical care and more so I'll be moving them to the pack house for now. I'll be talking to him about the state of the orphanage once I finish my tour, but so far I'm less than pleased and from what I've seen I doubt the building will be salvageable."
Ellis isn't exactly happy to hear this but as long as her ire isn't turned on him he's good. He calls Kacey are repeats her message to him.
Before he hangs up he asks Sky, "Any thing else, Sky?"
"Yeah, are there security videos in here?"
"Yes," Ellis replies and doesn't like the nasty look Sky has at his words.
"Then I'll need or better yet, you alphas will be reviewing them with me to see just how much abuse has been going on here. This bitch and the other caregivers will need to be taken into custody until I can determine just how badly they'll need to be punished. Kacey will also need to assign other females to help in the care of the little ones. I want this building empty in less than an hour. From the looks of the clothes, there will be no use saving them. They will all need new clothes from the pack stores. You might need to have some of the maids go shopping for all sizes in both male and female clothing."
Ellis doesn't dare demure when he sees the look in Sky's eye as she takes in the ragged appearance of the children. The absolute fury of what she's feeling can be felt and he most definitely doesn't want that turned on him.
Kacey is less than pleased by the phone call from Ellis and once the call is over has security pull up footage for the month from the orphanage to look over. He'd never thought about needing to do so. Since Leroy has his son over there he thought Leroy would say something if it needed to be said.
As he watches the footage with Leroy and the twins he becomes sick and disgusted. He doesn't want to be around when Sky watches it. She will go ballistic when she does. After watching just a half hours worth he makes sure that all the rooms where the children will be going are fully stocked with at least one clean pair of clothes per child and night clothes as well. It is obvious that the children have long been neglected.
He's not looking forward to the discussion with Sky over this.
He feels even worse for Leroy when she finds out that he keeps his son in the orphanage instead of here in the pack house.
Sky watches as there are guards that usher the children out along with a few servants to take the youngest ones carefully in their arms. She is assured that they will all be given baths, medical checkups and food in that order once they get to their new rooms in the pack house.
Sky nods in acceptance at the words of the head guard that comes to take the children away. Even he flinches at how poor some of the children are looking and the obvious bruising on some of them. He is the one to take the young boy that was being caned in his arms making sure to not touch the reddened back of the young child.
Sky is even more satisfied as the caregivers are being led away in restraints. Those guards tell her that they will be taken to the cells until punishment is decided upon by her and the alphas.
Sky nods. Once the last of the children leave Sky once more reenters the building again wrinkling her nose at the smell. She goes into every room and looks every where, Wyatt and Ellis following. Ellis is taking notes when Sky tells him something.
Once she is through Sky shakes her head. "This building is in such poor shape I'm surprised it hasn't started falling apart on every one. I'm condemning it. No one will be allowed back inside. I'll need it torn down as soon as possible to make sure that there will be no injuries.
"How long do you think that will take, Ellis?" Sky demands of her mate.
"I can have a team here today. Not sure how long the demolition itself will take, but I can have it started today." Ellis says soothingly.
Sky nods. "Good, I'll get plans drawn up for the new orphanage and I'll want that started as soon as possible. I'll need to talk to the contractor as soon as possible."
Ellis and Wyatt are both staring at her.
It takes her a bit before she comes out of her thoughts long enough to notice the silence and them staring at her. "What?"
"You are going to draw up plans for the orphanage?" Ellis manages to get out but Wyatt is looking at her as well while he says that.
"Yes, I earned two degrees in college. Although I started my architectural studies before leaving home. I have a masters in architecture and another in civil engineering with a specialty in structural engineering. I am fully licensed in both. Don't worry, I'm fully qualified to draw up the plans for the orphanage. It might take me a few days though. How much land will I be able to use? There is need for a larger building and a play area for the children will also need to be added."
"I would need to talk to Kacey about that, Sky. I think it would be better if you talked to him directly about everything you wish done for the children." Ellis tells her thoughtfully. He hadn't realized and he notices that Wyatt hadn't known either, that Sky was so well educated.
Sky nods once and turns back towards the pack house. "What did the children do when there was an attack on you guys?"
Ellis shrugs, "They would hide in the basement until the attack was over."
Sky stops and turns to face him. "That was all the protection they had from their pack mates. Just to hide in the basement? No safe room? I saw the door to the basement, it wouldn't hold out a determined human female my size before I became one of you. How the hell would that protect the children?"
Ellis swallows heavily before Sky scoffs and turns her attention away from her mate. "This will change. They are the youngest and the most defenseless of all the wolves. The other wolves, where do they go?"
"There are safe rooms in the pack house and most of the buildings and homes on the pack land." Ellis says softly.
Sky scoffs once more before turning back towards the pack house. Both Wyatt and Ellis hear her muttering, "Of course there are. Must protect the ones that are most protected." Both of them flinch at the acidity in her words.
