Chapter 48 - More Allies &. Battles

We had left the valley, the base and the city behind us and moved further inland, while up in the sky the sun shone and around us the snow began to melt. And whenever we encountered people, they joined us, having either heard our radio message or learned from others what was happening.

Even when Bac arrived in the valley, the army was so big that it was impossible to keep track of it, but with all the people coming out of their hiding places, bunkers, cellars or wherever they had been, the army of the Unequal Warriors kept growing and with each additional ally, the hope rose in us that we could really make it.

On the evening of the first day, Bac chose a few generals to form a large group of warriors and lead them into battle. After all, there is a whole country to conquer, so it is important and right for Bac to send out his warriors in all directions.

The next morning, seven groups moved on in different directions than we did with Bac. Our army, now smaller but still huge, moved on and came to the next town where survivors were already waiting for us to join them. They took us through the town where they had already "cleaned up". There were dead gray hairless creatures lying around everywhere.

One of the men, after we asked how they managed to kill all these creatures so easily, said that these creatures were sick and it was more of a salvation for these creatures to be killed. Well, that can be quite possible, can't it? We too have seen sick creatures and the human side in us that has compassion could hardly bear the agony of these sick creatures.

When we came out of the city, a surprise awaited us. There were Demoids! Many of them! And they were not coming to join us. They wanted to fight and ran towards us with huge steps. And with them were more gray hairless creatures, not at all sick and greedy for our flesh.

Yibo and I stood back to back, armed with our spears. Bac yelled "Hooray!" and his men leapt out of the ranks and ran at the Demoids. Crashing, their weapons clanged together. "You stay close to me!" Said Bac to us and the other humans as he drew his sword and pointed it at a Demoid.

The Demoid roared out a battle cry and ran toward Bac. Their two swords clashed as they clashed against each other. Sparks flew from their blades, proving how formidable their power was as they made their sword thrusts.

For a while, the two fought with their swords against each other. A man with a shotgun stood next to Yibo and me and pointed his gun at another Demoid who was about to pounce on Bac. Like a crack of thunder, the shotgun cracked loose next to us and just a second later, the Demoid fell to the ground with a look of disbelief on his face. Blood poured from his head, staining the snow beneath him red.

The crowd of Demoids and Greys would not let up. It was as if they had been waiting there for us and our army. And soon Bac was in a fight with three attackers and Yibo and I had to fight ourselves. A few of the gray creatures came at us, Yibo stood in front of me and fought off the first attacker by simply stabbing him in the chest with his spearhead.

Then more came and we fought together. We punched, kicked, stabbed the creatures. The other humans followed along with us. They fought back with everything they had and were very skilled at it. Always about 6 of them formed a group and together they fought against one creature. The creature was confused because it didn't know who to attack first. Clever tactics.

When the fight already lasted over an hour, we humans slowly ran out of strength. Some of us barely had the strength to stay on our feet and we thought maybe we wouldn't be able to win after all. But help came in the form of Janala and her jungle warriors. They rushed into battle and with them came many flying creatures of both species. They swooped down, grabbed one of our opponents and tore him apart.

Half an hour later we stood breathing heavily amidst a mass of dead Demoids and gray creatures. The snow below us was stained red everywhere and Bac was facing Janala. At first, it seemed more like each of them was expecting the other to attack. But finally Janala bowed to Bac and said, "Greetings old friend." Bac nodded and extended his hand to her.

The two talked privately for a moment and Bac told me afterwards that he wants to try to help Janala become herself again, but he doesn't know if he can help her now, since years have already passed since she was infected. And he also said that he will only try to help her when they have defeated all the enemies of the humans. Janala agreed to this.

Since we were all exhausted from the battle, we just looked for a free piece of land where we could build a big camp for everyone. Away from the dead and somewhere where we would be protected. Well, and where was that in the end? In the woods.

After we all rested a bit and ate, Yibo and I watched as the Amores befriended the humans and taught them fighting techniques. It was really fascinating to watch them and reminded me of the first time Yibo, He Peng and I lived with the Amores and they taught us all their knowledge.

But it was also nice to see how the people's fear of contact gave way and they got more and more involved with the many strange creatures. A few even ate together with creatures that looked like they actually lived in the sea.

The night had remained quiet and uneventful. Yibo and I slept snuggled close to Bac. In the morning, he sat next to us and said, "You look cute together. Especially when you're sleeping." Then he laughed and offered us a drink, of which he said, "I hear you humans love this drink." It was coffee and he was absolutely right.

The smell alone was so delicious that I would have loved to down the coffee immediately. But it was too hot for that. Bac said that one of the survivors had made the coffee after I asked him, confused, where he got it and how he knew how to make coffee. Yibo had as much trouble holding back as I did.

But away from the coffee and back to the war, because it did not pause and went cheerfully on. Hardly we had drunk our coffee to the last drop, eaten a little and packed our things again, it went already further. We passed again at the field where on the previous day still all these corpses were. Yes were, because over night some of the creatures took heart and took care of the corpses. That is, they ate them. And the jungle warriors went after the Bloody Snow. Um yeah...

The lively wandering continued, now and then a little song was sung, someone counted again and again from 0 to 100 and back, for whatever reason. We reached the next place on the map this way within two hours and immediately got into another fight with gray creatures and Demoids. This time we rounded them up in a pincer formation and in less than 30 minutes they were finished off.

More people joined us and said they wanted to be a part of those who liberate our land. Many of them said they had heard the radio call as well. Mhhh, when Yibo and I were in the bunkers trying to radio survivors, there was no response from them. Was it because of our radio? Or did they just not want to talk to us? Anyway, now they are here and they are full of energy. They want to fight.

How good that a possibility arose shortly after, when we once again met gray creatures. There must have been about 100 of them. But with so many fighters on our side, it was done in a few minutes.

In the meantime we had contact with Jing via radio, who told us that the other 7 generals and their armies were also very successful. He also told us that he had received feedback from several other countries saying that the armies of the creatures had arrived and that they were now joining them in battle. There, too, there have already been successful battles.

Besides all the good news, there was also some bad news. For example, it was good that the temperatures rose and the snow melted. But all the melted snow had to go somewhere and the ground couldn't absorb all the water so quickly, so there was some flooding. And it got worse when the sun stopped shining and it started to rain. We and many other groups were walking around in ankle-high water.

Another problem was that there was a lack of medicine and bandages. Even though we were all successful, there were still injured and they could not be taken care of. Not properly. So we had to go to hospitals and pharmacies, as did the other troops, and get these things. Which was not without danger and often led to more fighting with creatures hiding in these buildings.

But the biggest problem for the other troops was feeding the people and those creatures that do not feed on the dead. With an ever-growing army, the need for food also becomes greater. And the hunted wild animals were by far not enough to feed everyone. We had to find solutions for this as well, and it was clear what they would be. We had to go to supermarkets and take everything that was still edible. But even there, there was always fighting. But if we really want to liberate the whole country, we have to find better solutions.

Bac and Janala agreed that all we had to do was find and kill Raha to get the Demoids under our, or Janala's, control. Because once Raha is killed, which she wants to do herself, Bac wants to try to turn her back with his healing blood. Then she would wear her signet ring again and lead the Demoids back to their world as their queen.

Raha, however, and this was clear to Yibo and me, probably already knew exactly what was happening around him and therefore he would not just show up. And it would not be easy to find him. And did Janala and Bac think they could defeat Raha that easily? If he was that easy to kill, they wouldn't have to form an alliance, would they?

I know, also this time I refrained from going into details and rather wrote a summary of the events. But honestly, I'm just too tired at the moment to take the time to write everything down in detail. And more than what I wrote, finally did not happen.

But what I want to mention is how much Yibo and I grow closer and closer together. Sometimes it seems to me as if our love for each other is still increasing and increasing. I love Yibo so much now that I can't even think about him without my stomach tingling violently. When I look at Yibo, he shines like a bright star for me and I only see him, even when other people or creatures are around him. And he keeps telling me that he feels the same way about me.

I wish that our wishes and dreams will come true after this war.
