Ch 1. Starstruck

"Dammit," Scott mumbled into his pillow as a harsh beeping interrupted his peace. He grunted and slammed his hand down on the snooze button and snuggled back into the warm body next to him hoping to ease back into unconsciousness.

"Baby, wake up."

He buried his face in skin.

"Scott... your new job..."

Funny how obnoxious alarms couldn't shake him into an alert state, but the mention of his new job was more effective than being doused with a bucket of icy water.

He was most definitely awake.

His eyes opened immediately and he scrambled out of bed to hurry into the shower.

He was surprised to find his bed made when he returned to his room. A clean outfit was laid out across the comforter... including underwear and socks.

He smiled to himself and dressed quickly.  He checked himself in the mirror about a hundred times before he was satisfied.

Everything he would need for the day was already in his bag,  but he double checked just in case. He could NOT screw this up.

He lifted his nose to the air as the smell of something, oh so good, wafted into the room.  Coffee...  he definitely smelled coffee & food of some kind.

What would I do without that girl?

He finally made his way into the kitchen and stood behind the petite woman. He kissed her shoulder before perching his chin on it to see that she was making him pancakes.

"You are too good to me..."

She only smirked. "Don't I know it."

He laughed and went to grab a coffee mug from the cabinet, but she simply reached out a hand to stop him and pointed to the table. A mug already full of steaming coffee sat in front of his usual chair. The creamer and sugar sat next to it, at the ready.

"Sit."

He laughed a bit and sat down as she served him breakfast. Standing behind him she leaned down to wrap her arms loosely around his neck.

"It's your day today.  Enjoy it, okay?"

He nodded and she gave him a quick peck on his cheek before going to get herself something to eat.  He hoped the day would end as well as it had begun.

"I smell food."

Scott laughed as his roommate shuffled into the kitchen in only a pair of navy pajama pants.  He was scratching his head, his hair stuck up at all ends adorably.

But, then again, Zac was just adorable.  All the time.  Happy, sad, cranky, half asleep, drunk, angry, relaxed... it was just... Zac

"So sit and eat some." Angel placed a plate on the table for him and handed him a fork. Like she hadn't expected Zac's nose to sniff out food even at 7:30 in the morning.

She knew those boys too well.

Angel always thought of everything. She liked to be ahead of things.  She liked predictability.  Routine.

Just like me...

It was comforting and easy.

Zac took a bite and with his mouth partially full turned to Scott...

"Your girlfriend is amazing!"

Scott laughed knowingly. "Tell someone who doesn't already know." And he did know.  She was incredible. But...

"Hon, you wanted to leave by 7:45. It's 7:43..."  Angel's voice interrupted his thoughts.

"Shit..." He quickly shoved his last piece of bacon into his mouth.

He jumped up from the seat, dropping off his dishes into the sink and giving his girlfriend a quick kiss before bounding for the door.

"Good luck baby even though you don't need it."

"Thanks, Ang. Love you!"

"I love you too...."

He heard Zac laughing at his haste while also wishing him good luck as he hurriedly grabbed his bag & headed out the door to his car.

Mitch was early.

So what else is new? Mitch was early every single day.

He used that half hour alone to simply dance for himself.  He loved being a choreographer.  It was amazing and fulfilling in every way, creating something and seeing others bring it to life, but sometimes he just wanted to let loose and dance.

So he did.  This morning was no different.

He connected his ipod to the stereo system and listened to the music as he began to stretch.  His eyes closed as he mentally dissected the beats, the bass, the guitar... the drums...

He broke it all down almost instantly.

Once he started dancing it was hard to stop him. He would shut out everything around him and nothing existed except for the music, the movement, and him.

That was how Scott managed to stand there for so long staring, watching the brilliance in front of him, while being completely unnoticed.

Mitch was in his "zone" as his friends called it. He enjoyed his "zone." His "zone" was his comfort... the happiest place he knew.

He let the melody sweep over him like a tidal wave and then sent the emotion crashing back at Scott who just happened to be close enough to get sucked in.

Mitch nearly fell over mid pirouette as his eyes found the man standing in the doorway.  His spot had given him a view of the stranger in the mirror.

He even stumbled gracefully.

This must be the new instructor.  Chin up, dimples on and here we go...

~

Scott didn't know what to do. His breath was caught in his throat.

Mitch Grassi.

THE Mitch Grassi.

His IDOL was standing right there in front of him. In the flesh.

He'd just witnessed an improv from the most gifted dancer he'd ever seen. He felt suddenly paralyzed.

No one had informed him that HE was part of the faculty. How was he supposed to compare to THAT?

Mitch gave him a megawatt smile, his eyes expressive and bright. "You must be Scott, right? I'm Mitch.  It's nice to meet you.  Oh, and welcome."

Scott felt stupid for standing there dumbly for a second, but somehow his motor skills had suddenly abandoned him. His verbal skills weren't far behind.

Mitch Grassi.

He forced himself to snap out of it with a bit of difficulty and shook the shorter man's extended hand.

He's taller in person than I imagined him, though still quite a bit shorter than me. He seems more muscular, defined and shapely.  MUCH better looking, definitely more mature.

It was strange to see him in such a casual setting.  Standing in front of him one would never believe the lines and arches this man could pull off; the leaps and spins that were as natural to him as breathing...

Mitch shifted a bit under the scrutiny Scott was less than discreetly subjecting him to.

"I teach contemporary. If it wasn't already obvious."  He laughed softly and watched as Scott considered his words.

"Yeah, I'm a huge fan of yours."

He had almost blurted out the words, but he managed to somehow stay mostly composed outwardly while inwardly his thoughts were abuzz.

That didn't sound crazy ... or stupid right?  Oh, he's going to think I'm a psycho stalker.

Mitch grinned, but the blush to his cheeks was immediate.  "Thank you..."

Scott couldn't help but grin at his modesty.

And I am about to fangirl...

"So I hear you're our new hip-hop expert right?" The brunette inquired with a raise of his eyebrows.

"Yeah. It's kinda my thing." Scott grinned a bit, his face and neck turning the slightest shade of pink. He shifted the backward snapback on his head to give his hands something to do as his nerves started to take over.

"Yeah? So, you've seen mine, let's see yours." Mitch gave him a cute look before he turned on his heel and headed for the stereo system while Scott put down his bag and stretched a little bit.  After some searching, Mitch settled on a song and "On to the Next One" by Jay-Z came booming through the speakers.

The contemporary dancer settled himself on the floor in front of the mirror and watched Scott with curious interest.

This was familiar.

He could feel the bass vibrating the floor and shaking the mirror. It pulsed through his bones making his body come to life.

This was his comfort zone, but Mitch's eyes were on him... brown eyes that could melt with barely a glance...

C'mon Scottie.  Pull it together! You want to impress Mitch Grassi!?  Here's your chance.

He forced his eyes away from the other's enchanting gaze and felt vibration begin to move his limbs. The music took over

~

Mitch was awed, and quite a bit humbled.

His eyes traveled slowly over Scott's body.  He mentally tried to figure out how to make his own body move and bend, wave and pop as Scott's did. It just didn't seem logical.

His head tilted naturally as he examined the movements...the liquefied exaggerations...

He walked over to the stereo after a bit and pushed pause causing the blonde to stop abruptly and blink at him in surprise.

He hurried back over to Scott like a child on Christmas morning, body abuzz and his eyes sparkling.

"Teach me!" he was grinning like a fool. He hadn't been this excited in so long.

~

Scott was stunned into silence. What could he possibly teach Mitch freakin' Grassi?

"uhhh.....sure..."

But, just as they were about to get into a session, the first of Mitch's students started to arrive.

"To be continued" Mitch grinned cutely at him playfully.

Scott could only nod.

This has to be a dream.  It's too good to be true.
