12: Difference in Worlds

Don/Haru's POV~

I woke up in the morning to find myself being hugged against Nathan. Josh wasn't here though. I slowly and carefully pulled myself out of the orange tiger's hold and went downstairs where I smelled breakfast being made.

Upon going into the kitchen, I see Josh there with an apron on, making what looks to be scrambled eggs and toast, a plate of bacon and sausage already made and placed on the counter. Josh seemed to notice my gaze as he looked over at me and smiled.

I walked over to the dining room and took a seat. After a bit, he came over and placed my food in front of me, handing me a fork as well. He sat in front of me as I was eating, looking like he wanted to talk about something. Surely enough, he broke the silence soon after.

"Haru, I'm not going to push you into telling me if you don't want to, but if I may ask, what was your bad dream last night?"

I looked down and shivered at the thought of my flashback. I took a few deep breaths so I could answer him, but was interrupted when the other tiger came into the room and sat next to Josh, tiredly. Josh just smiled at him before getting his food as well as his own. Josh then sat back down in front of me again and cleared his throat.

"So, continue if you'd like." I nodded my head. It seems Nathan mentally grasped a hold on the situation as he seems to know what Josh asked. He probably has the same question.

I took a few deep breaths and explained my flash back of a dream. Telling them what my life was like, what my father did, and the last thing I remember before entering this world. They nod their heads and it seems they're thinking.

Soon, Nathan seemed to have a question, and upon asking that question, I was surprised.

"What are the animals like in your world, Haru?" He asks with a hint of curiosity. I didn't know how to respond. How do I tell them that animals from my world are just versions of animals in this world that don't stand on two legs? And how do I tell them that humans hunt other animals for food and such? What if they don't want me anymore? What if they hate me for it?

Apparently I was either panicking or something because Nathan put his hand on my shoulder.

"You can tell us, Haru. What you say won't affect the way we care about you. Remember that." I gulped and nodded my head. I took in a breathe and slowly let it back out.

"Animals in my world... Are very similar to the people of this world. We have tigers, like you guys. We also have lions, cats, dogs, and so on. Only, they are not at all like you guys. They can't speak, they don't have the same body shape, they don't stand on two legs. They're very different."

Nathan seemed to nod and put his finger on his chin, still thinking. Josh was looking at Nathan confused, probably wondering what he's thinking of. After what felt like forever of Nathan thinking, he then asked me a question while holding my hand in his paw.

"Did humans eat these animals? Or hunt them?" I gulped nervously. I hugged his arm and nodded. Nathan smiled and ruffled my hair.

"I see. I think I have a theory about something then." I tilted my head confused, as did Josh.

Nathan finished his food, as did I before he walked around and picked me up, taking me over to the couch where he held me on his lap.

"Haru, I think I know where you came from. This is only a theory, but let me explain. The thing you told us about your world sounds like our world from thousands of years ago. You seemed to have noticed that aside from pet stores, humans in our world don't walk around like we do. You may have not even seen a human at all since you came here, correct?"

I nodded my head in response. I have yet to see another human since I came here. Not once. Josh walked over and grabbed me, placing me on their laps. Both of them holding an arm around me carefully. I wonder if Josh caught a grasp on what Nathan was talking about. Nathan continued.

"Our world puts humans as endangered species in this world. Rarely ever seen. However, I think part of that isn't true. Through personal research."

I tilted my head confused by what he meant before he continued.

"I think humans in this world... are extinct."

I was confused. Humans extinct in this world? Impossible. How can they have human pets in this world, yet somehow be extinct? It's impossible. Josh then picked up where Nathan left off, explaining his thoughts and comparing them to Nathan's.

"So you mean to say that humans that originated in our world are extinct and that they're being taken from other worlds as a sort of way to revive them, even thought they're technically not completely gone? That's what it sounds like." Nathan nodded.

"However, I don't think they're being taken from other worlds." Josh and I were both confused by this.

"Haru, if my theory is correct, then let me be the first to say... Welcome to the future."

I was silent for a bit. 'Welcome to the future?' What does he mean by that? Josh seemed to understand, but I'm still confused. Josh seemed to see my confusion and explained for me, looking at Nathan to see if they're thinking the same thing.

"So, you think that they're not taking humans from other worlds, but are actually taking humans from the past and bringing them to our world?" Nathan nodded.

That's possible? They can time travel here? Nathan once again seemed to read my mind and explained.

"I'm not going to explain how it happened. And if it's not time travel, it's possibly another dimension. But upon the extinction of humans and the evolution of animals in the world, us beastman picked up where you humans left off when it comes to research. I don't mean to brag, but it seems we were able to advance further than you humans did when it comes to traveling. Whether that be space travel, dimensional travel, even time travel. To answer your lingering question, yes, we have the technology to time travel. However, it was only relatively recently that they found they could do that. A few years ago. The only reason I believe you're actually from the past is that humans didn't show up in our world up until shortly after they made time travel possible."

I nodded my hand in understanding. But a question was lingering in my head. It seems Nathan knows a lot, but if humans really went extinct in this world, then what happened? I decided to ask. The response was simple.

"I don't know."

That helps a lot.

Josh continued from where Nathan left off.

"I think I have a few potential ideas as to what happened. But for now, let's save that for another day. We should try and relax a bit." Nathan and I nodded as we turned on the TV and decided to watch some videos on MewTube.
