10: Sick with a Tiger
Nathan's POV~
I woke up holding my little kitten close to me. However, Don felt warm while being close to me. I felt his forehead and it was really warm. I think they're sick.
Worried, I got off the bed gently and shook Josh awake. Once he was fully awake, I handed him the manual.
"Here! I think our little Haru is sick. I have to leave for work soon, so please take care of him!" I said in a desperate tone. Josh nodded, walking over to Don before opening the manual to find out how to take care of our child.
I picked up my lunch and head out in my car. I hope Josh knows what he's doing...
Josh's POV~
I looked at the manual in worry. I hope Don's okay.
I went downstairs and grabbed a thermometer out of a drawer and went back up to the room. There, I saw Don, trembling. He looked up at me when I came over.
"Josh... I don't feel good..." I smiled and glided my hand through his hair, petting his head.
"I know, Haru. But I'm going to help you feel better. I promise. Can you trust me?" Haru grabbed my hand and put his forehead against it. I think that's a sign that he's trusting me. I smiled to myself and took his temperature. Luckily it was only 99.9 degrees. So it's not a high fever.
Opening my book, I looked at a section to find a way to cure him. It says to do the obvious and give him medicine, but I'm not sure I can. There's no vets open right now. And I'm not sure if he can take the medicine we take or not.
I looked at the manual more before tossing it on my bed and pulling out my phone. I looked up ways for humans to be healed when having a fever. I found a website that was much better than the book and went into it. Thankfully, it solved a few of my questions as I made preparations.
I dimmed the lights down so that Don can sleep better. I made sure to close the Windows and turn off the air conditioning so he doesn't get cold. I sat down on the bed beside him and held him close to me for a second.
"Don't worry, Haru. I'm going to take good care of you. I'm going to make you some yummy food that will help you." He nodded and relaxed his head into the pillow and continued to sleep.
I smiled, still worried for him. I went downstairs and went into the kitchen, trying my best not to make too much noice. I looked in the pantry to see if I can find some Cormar Noodle soup.
However, I was sad to see I didn't have any! I sat down on the couch frustrated. Nathan's counting on me to take care of Don! Don's relying on me! I'm not going to give up now!
I pulled up my phone and pulled up a recipe. I looked at all the ingredients, and luckily I know for sure that I have them!
Going to the fridge, I opened it and pulled out a cormar that me and Nathan were going to save for dinner at some point. I know Nathan will be a bit upset, but this is for my child!
I pulled out the leg of the cormar and left it out to thaw. While I left that out to thaw, I pulled out the vegetables and set them on the cutting board to thaw. While I did that, I saw Don come down the stairs very unstably.
I set down my knife and ran over to Don in a slight panic.
"Haru, you have to rest, bud! You're not well." Don leaned into me and gave me a hug. I smiled and hugged him back. His fever must be messing with his head or something because he's never this clingy.
I picked him up and walked over to the couch. I sat him down and added another blanket on him.
"Lie down, Haru. You need to rest." I was really surprised when he complied with my demand as he lied down and covered up. I smiled at his cuteness and walked back to the kitchen. I continued to cut the vegetables and soon I found the Cormar was fully thawed.
I start to boil some water and wait. While doing that, I got out the Cormar broth and brought that to a light boil as well. I added in the other vegetables with it and stirred them.
Soon, I set the cormar leg into the water and let the water do its thing. I continued to stir the broth and vegetables together. Every once in awhile, I'd look back at Don and see how he's holding up.
He's currently asleep, trembling a bit. Maybe it's too cold down here. I mean, I'm in the kitchen and I have fur. I turned off the fire on the stove where the soup was and went over to Don.
I felt his head to see how he's holding up. Still warm from the feel of it. I went over to the closet and pulled out an electric heater, taking it to the middle of the room and plugging it on. I turned it on and made the heat go towards Don.
After that, I went back to the kitchen and watched the water boil the Cormar leg. After that, I took the leg out and used a knife to cut off bits of the Cormar leg and cut those bits into smaller bits. After that, I put those bits in a bowl and seasoned them. I also made sure to add butter so that the seasoning sticks. I mixed the seasoning in with the Cormar until the seasoning stuck to it.
After that was done, I put the Cormar bits into the broth and stirred them on a light boil.
I brought the soup over to Don after I did a quick taste test and put some into a small bowl.
"Don, I made you some soup. I hope you like it. I didn't have any canned soup, so I made it from scratch." He sat up and looked up at me.
I brought over a stool he can use as a table for his soup since the bowl was hot. He blew on it a few times and took a bit. He seemed to like it as he continued to eat more of it.
I smiled and watched him finish his bowl. I asked if he wanted another, which resulted in a shake of the head 'no.' I smiled and grabbed the bowl, but was stopped when Don hugged me from behind.
I looked down at Don and smiled.
"Want me to sleep with you for now?" Don just nodded. I smiled at this, so I lifted him up and lied down on the couch, setting him down on my chest. I pet the back of his head and started to purr. It makes me happy that Don trusts me like this. I held him close to me, kissing his forehead. After he fell asleep, I spoke to him as he slept.
"I'll take care of you, Don. Just like a father should."
