CHAPTER SEVENTEEN: I'm Not Mad

Annabeth's POV

There's nothing that says good morning like a threat from a Titan you re-trapped under the sky years ago and a good amount of humiliation. Today's going great.

I awkwardly sat in the dining pavilion, straining to listen to what Chiron was saying, but it was hard. I didn't particularly want to listen to his bad news, I'm pretty embarrassed, and the ADHD doesn't help. I feel kind of bad I acted a little coldly to Percy. It's not his fault. I sighed. All I wanted was a fun, relaxing summer. Of course, that's not allowed.

"Annabeth." I snapped back into attention. I whipped my head up to see Chiron and Percy standing over me. Percy didn't meet my eyes.

"Sorry, what?" I asked sheepishly.

"Did either of you hear a word of my speech?" Chiron demanded. Percy and I both mumbled answers that clearly meant "not in the slightest." Chiron sighed.

"Let's go talk somewhere else. Head to the Big House. I'll be there in a few minutes, but I need to check on something." Then he sent us a look that said Don't do anything stupid. Then he walked away, leaving Percy and I alone.

I sat there for a few moments longer. I waited for Percy to sit next to me, but he didn't. He seemed lost in thought. Either that or he was ignoring me. I probably could have figured out pretty easily but right now I didn't care.

"Let's go, Seaweed Brain."

"Yeah, okay." He seemed relieved about something. I could see it in his eyes when I called him Seaweed Brain. Was he worried I was mad at him?

"Percy, you know I'm not mad at you right?"

"You aren't?"

"No. Definitely not. I didn't mean to act like I was earlier. I just hated that."

He breathed out before replying. "Good. I was worried..." Then he blushed. What's going on with him? I remembered the looks he and Chiron had shared last night. I started to ask him, but he cut me off.

"Let's get going. It would not help us to be late." That pulled me out of my thoughts.

"That would be bad," I agreed. We took off at a brisk walk to the Big House.
