Chapter 99

(Okay there's  a girl named raven you'll see her later I changed her name she was Rachel at first shes the girl Ryder had yk with in the woods.)

I'm sitting at the back of the bus by myself. I have never been to Harrison Prep before; I don't know much about it, only that it's a boarding school, and the kids who go there are really rich. I mean richer than some of the kids at Crossland. I also heard that most of the kids who go here aren't even from Crossland, PA, there from all over. When my parents were trying to decide what high school to send me to, Harrison Prep was somewhere they were considering. I didn't go because my parents felt as though they would never see me if they sent me away to a boarding school, which didn't make much sense. After all, they never saw me anyway.

Another reason was that my father said that he would rather me go to Crossland High for free than to send me to Harrison Prep for thousands of dollars for four years when four years later, he would have to pay thousands of dollars more for me to go to college.

I believe that reason more than the first one.

The kids at this school are also considered Elite; at Crossland, we have a few, Ryder, Ashely, and their whole crew. But from what Katie has told me, The kids at Crossland are nothing compared to Harrison. I'm so glad they didn't send me here.

I take out my phone and call my father. The line rings and rings, and then he answers. "Hello"

"Hey Jay," he says calmly.

"Where are you?" I ask.

"Back at home."

"Oh, What time did you get in last night?" I ask him.

"Uh, pretty late, you were sleeping when I came in." he lies.

"Oh?" I can't believe he's lying to me.

"I came in the room to check on you," he adds, digging the hole deeper for himself. "Where are you?"

"On the way to the robotics competition." The one you were supposed to be at.

"Oh, that was today!" He forgot, of course.

"Yeah, it is, I uh have to go. I'll talk to you later." I quickly hang up the phone. I can't believe he lied to me; why is he lying? Why couldn't he tell me where he was? I can't think of someplace he could be that he couldn't tell me. Wait, maybe he was at the bar, perhaps that's where he was. He couldn't tell me because he promised he wouldn't drink anymore. Perhaps I should tell my mother; I haven't talked to her in a couple of days; I'll give her a call later when I get home.

The bus pulls up in front of the school. It's huge, even bigger than Crossland. The outside looks like a museum; the brown brick walls have designs chiseled into them, you can tell it's an old historic building. I stand up from my seat; everyone slowly exits the bus. Selena is in front of me. "Where, Thomas?" I ask her.

"He said he was going to meet us here," she says.

"Oh." I need to talk to him. I hope he didn't catch the bus with us here because of what happened yesterday.

Students greet us as we get off the bus. I definitely couldn't go here; their uniforms are so formal. I see why my mother wanted me to go here. The girls have on black and grey plaid skirts, a white button-down shirt along with a black cross tie. "Hi, I'm Raven," The perky blonde girl walks up to me and says. She stretches her hand out to shake mine.

"Jayda."

"That's a pretty name!" she says, smiling.

"Thanks." There's a pin pinned to her shirt; it has the initials HP, most likely stands for Harrison Prep.

She turns to everyone. "Everyone, follow me, I will set you guys up in the gym," she yells.

...

"Where is Thomas? I thought he was meeting us here? The competition is about to start; he's the captain?" Olivia says frantically.

"He's coming, calm down," Liam tells her. He looks at me and then looks away; he can't possibly be blaming this on me. I didn't even do anything.

"We are going to lose, I know it." Olivia places her hand on her forehead.

"Olivia!" Selena groans.

"What?! I'm just saying, I mean, look at them, they're so, so."

"Focused." I finished her sentence. Everyone looks across the gym at the other team; it's six of them. They have been in that very spot since we got here; they look so serious. I can tell they are viewing this competition as more than just a game.

"There he is!" Liam says. We all turn around.

Thomas is walking through the doors; he rushes right over to us. "Sorry I'm late," he says. He looks at everyone but me. "Where's the robot?"

"It's already on the floor." Liam answers.

"We are starting with the classification round first?"

Liam pulls out the paper the judges gave us when we first walked it. "Yes."

"The competition will start in Ten Minutes, all teams, please report to your stations!" The host announces.

Everyone walks to our designated stations. "Thomas, can I talk to you?" I ask. He and Liam stop walking, Liam looks at Thomas, then Thomas looks at me.

"Sure." He says. "Go ahead and get everyone set up," he tells Liam and then follows me further down.

"Look about yesterday-"

"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have kissed you," he says. "It was just one of those... got caught up in the moment things."

"It's okay. If I seemed upset, I wasn't. I just wasn't expecting that." I was more shocked than I was upset.

"So we're good?" he asks.

"Where good!" I assure him.

...

The bell rings, telling us that our time is up. I look at the dashboard to see our time, 9.8 seconds. I can't believe it, we won! The team burst into cheers. Olivia hugs me tightly. "Thank God for you," she says.

"Good Job," Liam says, placing a hand on my shoulder.

"Thanks!" I can't believe I did it, my coding, it actually worked, I mean, I knew it worked because I saw the robot the other day, but it was better than the other teams.

"I told you you had nothing to worry about," Thomas says with a smile.

Everyone else continues congratulating me; I see a familiar figure out the side of my eye. "Caleb," I say cheerfully. I walk away from everyone and over to him. I jump into his arms, just as they do in the movies, he picks me up and embraces me in a long, passionate kiss. He places me back on the ground. "What are you doing here?" I didn't expect him to show up.

"You aren't happy to see me?" he asks, apprehensive.

"No, no, I am, but why aren't you at your game?" He did say he had a game today, right?

"It's over, we won," he says.

Of course, they did, just as I said they would. "Oh my god!" I say, trying to sound as enthusiastic as possible.

"You were amazing," he tells me.

"Wait, how long have you been here?" I ask.

"Like thirty minutes." He says. "You looked like you were having a lot of fun out there."

I laugh. "I was?"

"Mhm," he bends down and kisses me again. I feel like people are looking at us. It's so weird displaying this type of affection towards someone in public; not long ago, I was cringing at the sight of that couple in front of Caleb and me at the drive-through theaters. I didn't understand how someone could be so comfortable displaying that type of affection towards someone in front of many people. I understand now though. When you care about someone, you don't hide how you feel towards them just because of other people's presence.

Someone clears their throat from behind us, Caleb breaks the kiss, and I turn around. Thomas is behind me. Soon as I see him, I instantly feel bad; why do I feel bad? He doesn't say anything; he just stares at me. He's probably waiting for me to introduce the boy standing behind me. "Uh, Thomas, this is my... my uh..." I can't get the word out. What the hell is wrong with me?

"Her boyfriend," Caleb answers for me. It sounds so weird for him to say he's my boyfriend. I still can't believe it; I have a boyfriend. Thomas looks shocked; he should be; he didn't know I had a boyfriend. Everything is probably starting to click for him now as to why I didn't welcome him back in that awkward kiss the other day.

He looks down at the floor and then back up to me. "I uh... I just wanted to give this to you." he tries to hand me the gold trophy.

He wants to give it to me?; he shouldn't be giving it to me. "I can't accept that." I shake my head.

"Sure you can," he says; he tries to hand it to me again; I don't reach for it. "Come on, Jayda; you deserve it, the team, and I want you to have it. I want you to have it," he says sincerely.

He hands the gold trophy to me again. This time I take it. "Thanks." It's heavier than it looks. It can't be real gold; then again, by the looks off this school, I wouldn't be surprised if it's an old artifact they had stored away in their chambers somewhere.

"So um, the bus is about to leave, are you uh-"

"I'm taking her home," Caleb says, cutting him off.

He looks at Caleb, and then he looks back at me. "Well, uh, I guess, I'll see you Monday." he scratches his eyebrow. "Bye." he quickly turns around and walks away.

"Bye," I say, I don't think he heard me; he's already too far gone.

...

"So, what do you want to do?" Caleb asks me as we walk down the halls of Harrison Prep.

I shrug my shoulders."It doesn't matter" He grabs my hand, our hands instantly lock together, fingers perfectly entangled like a puzzle piece.

"Wanna go see a movie?" he asks.

"Sure." Going to the movies makes me think about the last time we went to see a movie. I enjoyed what we did even better than watching it.

Our arms swing back and forth. "You know, Jayda, you're my first girlfriend," he says. I stop walking and turn around to him. I look into his dark brown eyes. I am his first girlfriend; I didn't even think about that; he's been with a lot of girls, but he's never had a girlfriend before. A small weight comes over me at the thought of me being his first girlfriend. "Don't want to mess this up." he looks down at the floor.

"Caleb, you won't," I assure him; if anything, I would be the one to mess it up before him. I mess up everything; I don't know how yet, but I know I'll mess this up.

He looks back at me. He sighs, "I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing," he admits, he pushes my hair behind my ear and looks at me intensely.

"Me neither," I say. "You're my first boyfriend; you're the first boy I've ever been in a relationship with; I have no idea what the hell I'm doing either," I pause. "But we have each other; we're in this together."

He pulls me closer and kisses me softly for about two seconds, then he pulls away from me, and we continue down the hall. A blonde girl turns the corner, Raven, I think her name was. "Oh, Jayda. Congratulations on your win!"

I smile and say, "Thank you."

"Off to celebrate?" she asks us.

I nod my head. "Yeah."

She smiles back at me. "Well, I'll let you guys go...it was nice to meet you." she moves to the left and walks past us.

"Come on," Caleb says, pulling me forward.

"Wait." I turn around. "Raven!" She stops walking and turns back around to us. "Do you know Katie Washington?" I ask. I need to know how she is doing before I leave, closure I still need my closure.

"Yeah, I know her." she walks back towards us. "You're the second person to ask me about her," she says. Second? I wonder who was the first. Was it Travis? She presses her lips together. "Katie was my roommate!"

"Was?" she said was, as in past tense was.

She walks back towards us. She narrows her eyes at me and looks me up and down. "You with him?"

"Him?" I ask with a furrowed brow.

"Travis."

My eyes go wide; she knows Travis? I shake my head. "No, I'm not... I'm not with him"

She hesitates before responding. Her grey eyes search mine. "I believe you," she says. "You seem like a nice girl; I couldn't picture you being around a dick like him." I'm sure no one could picture me being around some like him; I can't even picture myself around him; he isn't the type of person I would hang out with. He was back then, though, when you're desperate for attention and when you're craving to be seen... to be wanted, you become friends with anyone.

"So, where is she?" Caleb asks, jumping into the A and B conversation. I almost forgot he was here.

She looks up at him and then back to me. "She's gone; she dropped out and went back to him."

My mouth drops open. "What? Her... her parents let her drop out?" I know the Washington's, they would have never let her do this. Titles, titles are all they care about and having their daughter tilted as a high school drop out. Isn't one that they would like.

"Soon as she turned 18, she left and ran back to him. Even after he raped her." she shakes her head in disgust.

My stomach drops to the floor. "She remembered?" When I tried to tell her that it was a possibility that Travis raped her, she didn't believe me. She wasn't blind to the evidence I presented towards her, but that's love.

Love makes you blind.

Raven nods her head. "After a while, her memories started to come back piece by piece. She told me everything; she said she remembered everything that happened." she pauses. "I told her that she needed to tell someone so we could get that bastard locked away." she spits.

"What happened after?" I ask eagerly as if I'm a character in a show waiting for the big revelation.

"She didn't tell anyone. I told her that if she didn't tell someone, I would, the next day she was gone."

I take a deep breath and rub my hand over my forehead. "I just... I just don't understand. Why would she run back to someone who she knows raped her?" That doesn't make any sense; she has to know now that he doesn't love her. Raven looks down at the floor and then back up to me; she tugs at her ear. She's leaving something out, I know it. I open my mouth to speak.

"What is it?" Caleb asks before I have a chance to ask the same thing.

She presses her lips together and then says. "She's pregnant."

(OMG!)
