Chapter 8

"Hey Remy."

"Hey gurl. Hi Issac." Remy said, turning around and smiling at Issac who was standing on his tip-toes, peaking over the top of the counter. "Damn, you really are a short 9-year-old." Remy said jokingly before looking up at his other brother. "Anyways, can I get you anything?"

"Issac, you want anything?" Issac shook his head. "Just a green tea then, please." Virgil said, flashing his older brother a friendly smirk.

"One leaf water, got it." Remy said, ringing it up on the till. "That's £4.50, please." He held out his hand for the money.

"Don't I get a discount? I am your brother."

"Do you want me to pull a 'Fred and George' and up the price or are you gonna give me the damn money." Virgil rolled his eyes and handed over some coins.

"Thank you." Remy said, smirking. "To go or to stay?"

"To stay. We'll wait for you." Virgil said, smiling slightly.

"Aw, that's sweet gurl but-"

"I swear to God, if you say Emile's coming-"

"Emile?" Issac asked excitedly, looking around the shop as if the older boy was just going to appear. Virgil rolled his eyes and Remy laughed.

"You're outnumbered, Virge. What've you got against Em anyway?"

"Nothing. He just seems to be taking up more of your time than your actual family."

Virgil could actually feel Remy's eye-roll through his sunglasses. Issac jumped on a seat near the window before Virgil could ask anything and pressed his forehead against the glass, looking for the cartoon-loving uni student. Virgil laughed slightly at his younger brother.

"You're tea, good sir." Remy said, putting on a fake, posh front and Virgil laughed slightly.

"Thanks Remy." He said, grabbing the drink.

"Say, Virge?"

"Hm?"

"That's not yours, is it?" Remy asked, pointing at the umbrella.

"No, it's not. And it's just an umbrella, why it is so important?"

"Who's is it?"

"None of your concern." Virgil said, narrowing his eyes at his older brother before going and sitting down next to his younger one.

"Ah, slight problem."

"Problem?" Issac repeated, curious and worried.

"Yeah. Emile's brother can't get home so he's gonna come with Emile. That fine?" Virgil could tell that Remy was asking him more than Issac. He sighed.

"Yeah, it's fine. Issac won't mind, I'm sure and you don't mind either so I'm outvoted."

Issac made a little noise of worry and jumped up to hug his brother. Virgil smiled slightly. "Heh, sorry Issac." He looked up at Remy. "Yeah, I'll be fine."

Remy nodded. "If your anxiety starts to spike just tell me, gurl, okay?"

Virgil nodded, smiling slightly. Remy finished his shift and sat down next to his brothers.

"So, Virge, spill."

"Spill what?"

"The tea, babes. Who cared about you enough to give you an umbrella in the pouring rain?"

"Why does it bother you?" Virgil asked, a little too defensive. Remy smirked slightly.

"Because I want to make sure whoever it is is treating my little brother right."

Virgil glared at Remy. "He's not my boyfriend." He hissed.

"Oh, so it's a boy?" Issac asked, giggling slightly.

"Yes, it's a boy. Can I not have friends who are boys?"

"What are the details? What's his name? Do you have his number? Do I need to beat a bitch up?" Remy asked, already cracking his knuckles.

"Jesus, no, Remy. You don't need to hurt anyone." Virgil sighed, knowing he'd never get any peace until he told them about Roman. "It's Roman's umbrella."

"You mean the Roman?" Remy asked for clarification. "Roman Winston?"

Virgil nodded. A grin slowly slid onto Remy's face. He opened his mouth to say something but Virgil cut across him.

"Can we not talk about this now?" He asked. "Besides," he checked his watch, "I need to go anyway."

"Go? Why?" Issac asked.

"Library." Virgil said simply. "And I don't really want to meet new people anyway. Bye."

Virgil got up and left the Starbucks.

Virgil looked up quickly, writing something down in his notebook. It had finally stopped raining and he was leaning against a wall, writing about the people on the street. His grey eyes travelled up and down the shops, picking out separate groups and numbering them. Then, his note taking was interrupted by a very loud noise.

"Remus!" Someone yelled as Remus hurtled down the street and ran into Virgil, knocking him to the ground. Remus laughed, picking himself up and holding out a hand to Virgil.

"Sorry about that, Virgin."

Virgil stood up on his own, grabbing his notebook and pencil. "What did you call me?"

"Virgin. You know because you never fu-"

And I think that would be a perfect time to cut across you." Roman said, catching up with his brother. "Sorry about him."

Virgil shrugged. "Here." He said, handing Roman back his umbrella. "Thanks, by the way." He muttered before turning around and leaving.

Remus giggled and turned to Roman. "Shut up." Roman said. This made Remus laugh even more. "It didn't mean anything." Roman protested, making sure Virgil was out of earshot. "It's just part of the bet."

Remus made a noise of disappointment. "Oh well. I guess that's good for you."

"Why?"

"Because if you fell in love with Virgin over there, you'd lose the bet."

"Since when?"

"Since just now." Remus said, grinning before running away.
