Chapter 49

Aaron flopped down on his sister's bed and sighed. Luella did nothing. Aaron sighed again. Nothing. Aaron sighed again, louder this time. Still nothing.

"Lu."

Nothing.

"Lu. Lu. Lu. Lu. Lu. Lu. Lu. Lu. Lu. Lu. Luella. Lu. Lu. Lu. L-"

"What?" Luella asked, turning a page in her book. "And if you say you're bored, I swear-"

"I'm bored." Luella glared at her younger brother and hit him with her book.

"Eff you." She muttered. "Now, what do you want?"

"Are you actually going to ask Virgil if he wants to hang out or is this plan just not going to work at all?"

Luella glared at Aaron. "Have you asked Roman?" She fired back. Aaron nodded and Luella rolled her eyes. "Really? Let me see your phone."

Aaron shrugged. "Fine." He said, rolling off her bed and walking out the room. Luella rolled her eyes again and went back to her book. A phone landed in the middle of her page, showing messages between Aaron and Roman and, yes, Aaron had asked Roman if he'd wanted to hang out. Luella glared at her brother who was standing by her bed with a smug expression.

"Fine." She rolled her eyes and got her phone out of her jean pocket. She texted Virgil an invite. "Done. Now what?"

"Well, any smart ideas to get them alone together? Come on, you're meant to be the smart sibling."

"Let me think." Luella snapped and closed her eyes, trying to think of a way to get Roman and Virgil in the same room, where neither of them could get out. Her phone buzzed and she checked it, not losing her train of thought. "Virgil asked what time." She said. Slowly, an idea began to form.

"Um... I don't know. 3 maybe 4pm on... Saturday? That work for him?" Aaron asked. "Now, can we get back to the planning?"

"I've got an idea." Luella said and Aaron sat up a little straighter, ready to listen to her. "If we told them that the time was 3pm, we could lock them together in a room for an hour and give them something like a note or a video to tell them that we're coming over in an hour to let them out. They need to sort out their problems in an hour or they won't be let out for another two. Sound good?"

Aaron shrugged. "I guess. But how are we going to lock them in. And where? We don't have the keys to many places and the only room that locks here is the loft. And I don't think that either Roman or Virgil would like that."

"Um... well, we could try and get someone's help. What about Virgil's brother? He works at a Starbucks, maybe we could get him to help."

Aaron rolled his eyes. "Lu, I'm pretty sure that all of Virgil's family hates Roman apart from Virgil because of what he did."

"Yes, but all of Virgil's family want to see Virgil happy again, don't they?" Luella argued. "And Roman makes Virgil happy, I'm sure of it. Otherwise he would be so torn up over all of this."

Aaron sighed. "Fine. We can at least try and see if it'll work."

Luella smiled and got up. "Great. Um, you go to the Starbucks and ask Virgil's brother for his help. He's the one with sunglasses, he's always wearing them. And I'll get on the note..." Luella grabbed a half-empty notepad and a pen off her desk and started scribbling something down.

"Great." Aaron echoed, his voice a little quieter and more defeated. Luella looked up at him.

"Hey, are you gonna be okay with all this?" She asked. Aaron hesitated and then nodded.

"Yeah, sure. I'll be fine." He said, trying to smile. "It'll make Roman happy. And if Roman's happy then... I guess I'm happy too."

Oof, did not mean to end on such a depressing line of dialogue, I am very sorry. And if any of you are staying up gone midnight to read this (I'm looking at you, Marilyn) please go to bed! Please!
Bye,
Queenie
