The Morning After
3RD PERSON POV
Ocean woke up. She looked around and saw Mariah at her side. She looked down at her own body and saw she was only in her undergarments. She sat up and remembered what they did the night before. Her cheeks flushed a red hue
Mariah sat up and rubbed her eyes. She looked next to her and saw Ocean. "Holy shit. Did we fuck?" She asked. Her cheeks were red and grew even redder when she saw Ocean nod. "Damn," she whispered
Ocean looked at Mariah. "I- I should go," She said. She got up from the bed and started to dress in her clothes from last night. "I have to get to work," She said, which was kinda true. She did have work but not soon
"Wait, let's talk about this," Mariah said. She got out of bed and started to dress too. She put on an oversized shirt and a pair of shorts
"We can talk later. . ." Ocean said. She put on her pants and instead of her shirt, she put on her new jacket and zipped it up all the way. "I have to go," She picked up her shirt and started to walk out of Mariah's room
Mariah reached an arm out for Ocean but she didn't grab her arm. She just watched her leave. "Shit. . ." She muttered under her breath. She cursed at herself for letting her go without talking about the previous night
TIME SKIP
Ocean stood on the sidewalk right in front of her apartment building. She waited for Robert to come by and pick her up. She wore her uniform and held Robert's jacket in her arms. She debated if she should Robert about what she did with Mariah last night
Robert pulled his car up right in front of where Ocean was standing. He unlocked the door, opened the trunk, and rolled down the window. "Hey, Ocean. Get in." He said. He was wearing his uniform and a backward cap
Ocean put her backpack in the trunk and closed it. She then got into the passenger seat. "Hey, Rob. I got your jacket," She says and gives him his jacket. She buckled her seatbelt and sighed. "It's my last day. You excited to see how I'm gonna quit?"
"Yeah," Robert said. He just threw his jacket to the backseat. He locked the doors and started driving. "You'll do great working wherever you're going," He glanced over at her and smiled
"Yeah, I guess," Ocean says. She crossed her arms and closed her eyes. She let out another sigh
Robert stopped at a red light and looked over at Ocean. "Hey, you okay?" he asks. He was concerned for the girl sitting next to him. He couldn't recall a time she was visibly upset because usually, she would say she's sad before showing it
"Uh. Yes but I can't explain without you possibly getting mad," Ocean says. She fiddled with her fingers. She still needed time to decide if she should tell Robert or not. But then again, Robert would probably worm it out of her sooner or later
"I won't get mad. Promise," Robert said. He gave her a reassuring smile and placed one of his hand on her shoulder while he kept his other on the wheel and his eyes on the road
"Alright," Ocean took a deep breath. "Last night, after I got home. Mariah and I were buzzed. I went to tuck her into bed and before I left, she pinned me to the wall," She says. "She kissed me and I felt like my mind left my body. I kissed her back and after a bit. Well, not to go into immense detail, we fucked. . ."
"Huh. . ." Robert muttered. He felt his blood start to boil with jealousy but he kept a straight face. He felt jealous that Mariah got to see her like that before he did. He was jealous that Mariah got to do that with Ocean. But what prevented him from lashing out was the fact that they were both drunk. It didn't mean much right? He took a deep breath
"Sorry. . ." Ocean whispered. She looked down like her mom just scolded her for doing something wrong
"Don't apologize. You didn't do anything wrong. But I suppose you'll be dating her now huh," Robert said. He felt sad and jealous but he didn't let it show. After all, he should be happy for her. Right?
"I," Ocean started. "Don't know. Yeah, I did do that with her but, I don't know if I should," She cleared her throat. "I would but, you exist. My heart is so confused. . . Does that make me a bad person?" She asked. Tears pricked her eyes and she tried her best to try and prevent them from falling on down her cheeks
Robert pulled into the employee parking lot and parked. He hesitated to get out of the car. He sighed. "You aren't a bad person. It's both my fault and Mariah's. We're the ones who made you have to decide between us," He unbuckled himself. "But hey, whoever you want to date, we'll still be close. I swear,"
Ocean smiled softy. "Thank you. But, I do need to have some time to think about it," Ocean said. She placed her hand on the door handle, opening it slightly. "Now how about, we work, go on break, you explode some oatmeal, then I can quit,"
"Sounds good to me," Robert said. He smiled and got out of the car. They both walked into work excited as ever
TIME SKIP
Ocean and Robert ran to Robert's car. They both were laughed their asses off. Ocean just quit in the most extra way possible
Robert and Ocean were lucky enough to both be the tour guides of the same group with Ocean driving and Robert speaking. They had just finished their last tour of the day. They were fed up of the baby screaming in the back of the group and the Karen nagging at them that Robert was speaking too loud
Ocean started to slow down as they approached their destination. "The park closes at 11 pm today so you have plenty of time to explore the rides and maybe get a bite to eat in the parks or in Universal Studios CityWalk. Please exit to your left. Watch your arms, legs, and head as your step off the tram. Bye, everybody!" Robert said as Ocean stopped
Once everyone was off the tram, Robert motioned Ocean to go close to him. She went next to him, and he whispered to her, "Let's go get out stuff in the locker room and then to the staff lounge," The plan was perfect because their supervisor will be there at the same time
The two of them got off the tram and handed the keys to the person who would be driving it next. They headed towards the locker rooms to get their stuff. Once they got their bags, they went into the break room
Robert gave Ocean a thumbs up. He went over to the little kitchenette and started to make some oatmeal. He remembered what made it explode the last time and did exactly that. He waited for a few moments
POP!
The oatmeal exploded and Robert's supervisor walked towards him. "God damnit who could you be so stupid and go and explode oatmeal again!" Their supervisor said. She opened a cabinet and searched for some paper towels. She grabbed a stool and looked through the top shelf
Robert looked over at Ocean. He gave her a thumbs up
Ocean went to one of the empty tables and stood on the chairs. "We would like to make a speech, for our dear supervisor. Well, you really weren't super were you?" Ocean said
Their supervisor hit her head on the shelf and fell backwards onto her bum. "Get down from there!" She said as she looked at Ocean on the table right in front of her
"How about no, and you can't fire me for this because I quit! You were always mean to Robert and when he wasn't there, you were mean to me. I hope anyone who continues working is aware that you're a verbal abuser," Ocean says
Ocean hopped down the chair and Robert grabbed Ocean's hand and they ran out the door laughing
The other workers cheered because they too hated their supervisor
"Holy shit! That was so fun!" Ocean said. She buckled into her seat and kept on laughing. "I hope that doesn't affect if I get a job somewhere else," She laid back in the seat and finally stopped laughing
"Hopefully I won't get fired. I really wanted to quit too but I need money." Robert said. He buckled up and started to drive off. "So, where are we going now?" He asked
"Uh, I don't know. I think I want to go talk to Mariah," Ocean says. Her smile disappeared and there was only silence
"Do you wanna go get some food first?" Robert asked. He wanted to hold onto any time he could have left with Ocean. "We could go to Shake Shack. Your favorite,"
"Yeah that would be nice," Ocean said. She tucked a piece of hair behind her ear
Ocean and Robert go to Shake Shack. Robert made sure to stay as close to Ocean as possible. The occasional brush of the hands and then paying for their food. He treated this as a date because he knew that there was a chance that Ocean might ask out Mariah and if that happened, he wouldn't be able to give her small kisses or cuddle with her or even sleep in the same room as her ever again. He debated if he should just ask her out before she gets home. The pros were that he would date her. The cons were that he might upset his best friend
Ocean and Robert sat down across from each other. They started to eat. When their mouths weren't filled with food they would talk. Mostly about each other's personal life. Well, the parts they didn't know yet. Besides that, they would talk about musical theater and their other hobbies. Robert would listen to Ocean talk about sewing and arts & crafts for hours just because he loved how she glowed when she would talk about what she loved. And in return, Ocean would watch Robert work out at home either in person or video call and at times she would go to the gym with him
Once they finished eating, they went to order dessert. Ocean got a frozen custard cone and Robert got a shake. After getting their desserts, they got into Robert's car. They both grew silent. The rest of the car ride, it seemed like they ran out of conversation topics so it was just silence
Robert parked right in front of Ocean's apartment building. "I'm gonna go ask out Mariah. Wish me luck. And," She started. "And I hope this doesn't affect our relationship," She began to ramble on and on about how she would hate for their friendship to be ruined by this
"Hey, don't worry," Robert said. "Yes, I do like you. But, because I like you, I care about your happiness. If asking out Mariah makes you happy. Go for it," Robert looked at her and smiled. But there were tears forming in the corner of his eyes. He sniffled, wiped his tears, and said, "Just promise me you'll still come over every other Friday like we have been doing. Now go get 'em, tiger,"
Ocean looked at Robert and smiled. She gave him the best hug she could give him in a car. "Thank you, Rob. And I promise Fridays are still our days," she says. She let go and got out of the car. She grabbed her backpack from the truck and started to walk to the doors of her apartment building
Robert took in her scent, knowing it will be the last time he gets it. "Bye," He said. After she left, he let a tear fall from his eye. He laughed at himself. "Goodbye. . ." He whispered
