Chapter 5
The gang walked into the old house, the floor creaking with each step they took. They all look around amazed at how dusty the place is. Wondering how long it's been since another human soul has entered this place. Penny moves towards the Lounge area that was on the right and starts scanning things. Lily immediately tries to look around for secret passages with Nugget , he stood close, making sure that his girlfriend didn't get hurt during their search as she pulled at random old candle holders that hung on the walls and felt the wall for any sign of hollow walls. Kid, Ted and Billy ascended up the staircase to the second floor, the floors creaking with each step they all made.
"Do you think this place is haunted?"
Ted says glancing at each old photo that they pass, shivering a little at a photo of a woman who had a sad expression on her face while looking at a cat. Billy rolls his eyes as he stared on the dark staircase.
"Yeah like that's possible. Oooooh noooo a ghooooooost is going to get uuuuuuuuus!"
Billy turns around and places his hands on his face and sarcastically gives a fake scared look at Ted, who glares at him. Kid chuckles looking between the two as he keeps them moving forward. Softly nudging Billy to continue up and tugging on Ted to hurry.
The second floor seemed worse than the first. There were holes in the ground, wallpaper peeled off the wall and dust littered any furniture that was in the hallway. There were four doors, two on each side while at the end of the hall, it seemed to have made a right turn into more unknown areas of the house.
The three boys slowed their pace as they made their way to the first door. Billy stopped right before the door and picked up a flower vase that had long dead flowers still sitting inside and began searching inside the vase for something. Kid and Ted looked at him confused, wondering what he was doing until he pulled out an old bronze key that had a bit of mold on it. Billy didn't look at them as he shoves the key into his pocket and places the vase back into its spot, moving to the door to open it.
He turns the knob and the door budged for a second before Billy pushes onto it with force. Dust fell off the doorframe and scattered in the air. Ted began to sneeze and cough from the particles and used his sweater to cover his face as he turned away from the door's entrance. Kid patted his back.
"Jeez Ted don't die on us, it's only been less than 5 minutes since we got inside" Billy said, Ted glanced back and sniffed.
"Sorry I'll try to die slowly now."
The room appeared to have been a study, a desk near the window on the other side of the room was covered in old books, papers, and dust. A bookcase that was built into the left wall had a few shelves fallen apart, old books littered the floor in front of it. An old portrait of a dog by a flower bed hung on the green-colored wall, the wallpaper peeled on the edges.
"I wonder if the windows can still open" Kid spoke, motioning to the window. Ted still wheezing harshly behind him.
"I'll give it go." Billy says as he makes his way to the other side of the room. He moved the curtains that covered the window, the rails that hung them suddenly gave way and fell right on top of him. Kid couldn't help but laugh as he watched Billy screech and flail underneath the curtains that covered him, finally able to pull them off of him after a few seconds.
Ted began to laugh at the scene but was quickly cut short by his own coughing as the dust got to him again. Billy flusters as he kicks the curtains away and tries to brush it off, turning back to the window and rolling up his sleeves before grabbing the bottom of it. He used all of his might to pull the window up but it didn't budge. He grunts and tries to pull it up again after fixing his grip.
The window still didn't move, it was like it was glued to the window sill. Billy tugged and tugged but it seemed to never move. That's when Kid noticed something.
"Ahem" Kid cleared his throat before walking up to the window and reaches for the lock that was on top. Twisting it with a click and then lifts the window up without trouble. Billy chuckles in embarrassment, even redder than before.
"I knew that."
"Sure." Kid rolled his eyes with a smile. Ted walks over to the window and leans out of it for a bit.
"Sweet sweet fresh air! Oh how I missed you!"
Billy and Kid begin to wander around the room, it wasn't very big, about the size of a small bedroom give or take. Kid picked up random books off the ground and dusted off the covers to see what they were. Most seemed to be about poetry, he wondered if Felix had any of these... Felix...
Why did everything have to make him think about the blonde so much?! Kid quickly shoves the book into a random spot on one of the old shelves, feeling his face burn from his own thoughts. Feeling a bit ashamed since Ted was literally right there. He glances back at Ted who still sat on the window sill, looking outside the window. God he really shouldn't be doing this, but he couldn't help but admire how even though the blonde acted nothing like his brother, he had the same charming face as him. Same pretty sparkling teal eyes, sharp jaw, curly blonde hair, same lips-
"Yo! Guys over here!"
Ted and Kid quickly turn to look towards the entrance of the room, since when did Billy leave?! Probably while he was busy staring at Ted for who knows how long. Kid mentally slaps himself for letting his heart take control of his mind.
Kid looks back at Ted, locking eyes as they both share the same confused look. Ted quickly gets off the window sill and heads towards the door. Kid just stared as he watched how the light bounced off his hair, it looked like soft gold, his skin looked like porcelain- FOCUS KID!
Kid quickly slaps himself across the face and shakes his head.
"You good?"
He looks up at Ted, he stands in the doorway waiting for him to follow.
"Yeah... Yeah, sorry!" Kid quickly hurries past him as he heads further into the old dark hallway.
It only took walking a few feet into the hallway before Ted began to sneeze and cough again from the dust
"I-" Ted lets out a rough sneeze. "I'm going to go back down-" Then a hard cough. "by Penny" Another hard cough.
"Okay, be careful heading down."
Kid watches for a second as the blonde goes the opposite way before going down the hall, slowing down as he reaches the corner. He slowly glances around the corner as if he is expecting something to be there, only to be met with emptiness. No Billy in sight. Kid raises an eyebrow as he moves around the corner, where was Billy?
"BOO!"
Kid lets out a loud screech as he swings himself around and throws himself back, his blood rushing as he looks back at Billy.
"Hahaha! Did I get you?" Billy asks with a massive grin. Kid glares at him and that is all Billy needs to start laughing again.
"Not cool Billy."
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I couldn't help myself!"
Kid couldn't help himself from smiling at his friend, before rolling his eyes and turning back to the hallways, eyes roaming around before they caught something, a door at the end of the hall.
"Hey Billy, what's that room?"
Billy shrugs before walking over to open it. "The attic it seems."
Behind the door was an old staircase, Kid goes to glance up the stairs and sees another door at the top. He starts his way up the creaky steps with Billy slowly following behind him. "You guys never checked here yet?"
"Nah, only up to the second floor."
When they reached the door Kid tried the knob, it jiggled a bit like it was loose but after a few tries it opened.
The room was full of even older-looking items, possibly as far back as the 1700s. Parts of the ceiling were missing leaving the night sky to be seen. Kid pulls out his phone for a flashlight. The light shined on covered portraits and old moldy suitcases. Parts of the floor didn't look very safe like it was on the brink of falling apart if too much pressure was put on.
"I wonder if there are any ancient treasures that were stored up here?" Kid questioned as he shined his light around, landing on an old-looking vase that was painted with flowers around the base.
"Knowing the people back then, probably. Don't touch anything that looks cursed-" As Billy finishes his sentence he hears the sound of glass breaking behind, he turns quickly to see Kid had dropped the vase. "Welp, that's 7 years of bad luck now."
"I thought that was for mirrors?"
"Eh, maybe."
They began to look around again when the sound of footsteps and two voices were heard coming towards the staircase from the floor below. They both stood frozen as they tried to figure out who was coming up.
"Ted? Penny?"
"Nope, they're outside. Ted is still having a huge sneezing fit, I think they'll be staying outside for a good while." Lily's head pops around the corner along with Nugget's poking underneath. They meet the other two in the middle of the room and take a look around.
"Dang! Look at this place! It really took a beating!" Lily says in awe, admiring the night sky through the roof.
"Nugget is surprised that Billy and Kid went upstairs instead of going down towards the basement, there are many more discoveries that are buried instead of hidden."
"There's a basement?"
"Yeah! Turns out there is a basement hatch underneath the rug in the kitchen!"
"Really?! Come on! Let's go check it out then!" Billy says as he rushes over to the doorway of the attic. The floor shook vigorously with each step like it was going to collapse. Nugget instinctively grabs onto Lily and holds on tight.
"N-Nugget would suggest to not run up here! The floor isn't stable and Nugget would like to leave with all of his body intact!"
Lily and Kid look at the floor, Kid's flashlight lighting it up as they take a closer look at the floorboards. 'So don't step on the more whithered ones then.' Kid noted in his mind as he took a few steps forward. Lily watches what he is doing before mimicking him, grabbing Nugget's hand, and matching each step with caution as they make their way towards the exit.
They were almost a few feet to the door when Kid's foot suddenly went through the floor and he felt himself falling through.
"KID!" His three friends shout in fear as they watch him be swallowed by the floor before their eyes.
Kid closes his eyes and covers his face as quickly as he can before he hits the second floor and falls right through, splinters cover his arms and hair as he reaches the main floor. He winces as he feels himself slam right into the final floorboards before falling through again, into the basement. His body slams right into the cement floor, luckily not as rough due to hitting through the other floors, but he still felt his whole left side burned in pain due to the impact. As he breathes in he feels his lungs fill with dust, making him cough heavily.
"Kid? Are you alright?" A familiar voice calls out to him from the opening of the hole. He opens his eyes and looks up towards the opening to see Ted looking down at him, his teal eyes full of worry.
"Y-yeah" Kid croaks out before coughing again. Ted frowns before looking around. 'Since when did Ted get here?' Kid wondered.
"Hang on, I'll get you out of there"
It was at this moment, Kid could have sworn that Ted sounded a bit... Different... Ted didn't sound like Ted...It's probably nothing, maybe Kid hit his head on the way down without realizing it. Hopefully it's not a concussion. That would be a pain to hide from his parents.
He hears the sound of an old door being opened in the distance and the sound of Ted coming down to get him. Kid felt kinda awkward for some reason. 'Man, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to come here.'
The silhouette of Ted covers Kid, Kid continues to stare right up at him, right into his beautiful teal eyes... They're so... relaxing...
"Kid... Kid! I need you to tell me how many fingers I'm holding up."
Kid snaps back into reality as best as he can. 'Woah, that was weird.' Kid thought as he looked at the hand Ted was holding up. "Two."
Ted smiles before kneeling down in front of him. "I'm going to help you up now, do you think you can stand?"
"Yeah, I think."
Ted's arm goes underneath his left and lifts him up onto his feet. Pain shoots up his leg as he clings to the blonde, his feeling of embarrassment skyrocketing for no reason. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah yeah, I can just walk it off." Ted didn't seem too pleased with that response, seemingly deciding to instead pick Kid up bridal style. Making the brunette blush uncontrollably as they head over to the exit. God this is so awkward! "So uh... Where's Penny?"
"Uhhh..." Ted looked around a bit frantically like he was trying to make up an answer. "She's-"
"KID!" Lily shouts as she and the other boys rush down the steps towards the hole. "OH MY GOD ARE YOU ALRIGHT?! WHERE ARE YOU?!"
"I'm okay! Kinda." Kid whispers the last part as he looks up at Ted. 'Why does he seem so nervous? Like he's about to be caught doing something bad?'
"Don't worry! We'll get you out of there!"
"You don't need to! Ted is bringing me back up!"
"Ted? Where's Penny? I thought you both would still be gone for a while?" Lily asks as they meet Ted and Kid over by the kitchen. She raises an eyebrow at Ted holding Kid and tilts her head.
"Oh-uh-Penny thought she saw something and told me to go inside while she investigates. What happened here?" Ted sheepishly replies as he adjusts Kid in his arms.
"Turns out the attic floor is much more brittle than we had thought. Are you sure you're alright Kid?" Billy asks as he steps closer to them. Kid notices Ted tense a bit.
"Yeah, just a bit dizzy."
"Hey Ted, do you mind finding Penny and bring her back" Billy asks as he begins to eye Ted suspiciously, getting even closer. "It would be a good idea to get her so that she can make sure Kid doesn't have any broken bones."
"Right right! But how about I take care of Kid's injures first, just so that he doesn't bleed out while I look for her"
"You sure you don't want to leave Kid with us? We can do that! After all, you LOVE hanging out with Penny, alone, together!" Billy teased, but there was a hint of distrust in his tone. Something wasn't right. Kid couldn't help but feel so helpless in this situation. There was definitely something going on that he wasn't realizing, there had to be something if Billy and Lily felt suspicious.
Nugget just stood there, staring intently at Ted, like he was studying him.
"I'm sure it'll be quicker to just take him to her! Trust me!"
"Sureeeee, Teddy."
Ted nervously laughed before he hurried out of the room through the lounge and towards the staircase with a now confused Kid in his arms. As he made it up the stairs, Kid overheard Billy say something quietly to Nugget and Lily. "Did you bring the net?"
Ted takes Kid upstairs, each step felt so slow for Kid. Where was he taking him?! Why is he acting so strange?! This is Ted, right? Ted turned to the right, the room they went into looked to have been a guest bedroom. An old dusty bed rested on the left wall, it's sheets through looked to have been neatly tucked together before it was abandoned, a balcony door was on the opposite end of the room, seemingly still in nice condition even after all these years. The blue wall paper was slightly peeling but this room was surprisingly nice compared to the rest of the house.
Ted gently places Kid on the bed before going to the door. There was the sound of a lock clicking into place after he closes it. Kid felt his heart race and his cheeks blush a bright red. Ted turns back to him, softly smiling before heading to the cabinet across the bed to look through it.
Kid clears his throat. "So Ted, can I ask you something?"
"Sure, what is it?"
"Why aren't you interested in finding Penny? You told me you liked her? Don't you?"
Ted pauses, his back faced towards Kid as he waits for a response. "I just wanted to make sure you're alright."
"Ted you know I'm going to be fine! Are you sure the dust didn't get to you or something?" Kid heard a sigh before Ted turns back to face him. His face was more serious than he normally was. It made Kid shiver, his facial expressions pretty much matched to-
"Kid"
"Yes?"
"Can you keep a secret between us?"
"Duh, we've known each other since forever Ted!"
'What kind of question is that?' Kid wondered as Ted comes up to him, cupping his cheeks lightly. It made the brunette's heart do flips as he stares into the blonde's eyes. Ted still smiled softly at him, his eyes becoming more gentle the more he stared into them. He could see every detail on his face from the moonlight, he really does look exactly like Felix.... More than he remembered. He could feel Ted's thumbs gently rub his cheeks as Ted leaned in closer. Blush seemed to have filled in the blonde's cheeks.
"Promise to not tell anyone?"
"Ted?"
"Not even your friends?"
"Sure, yeah. Whatever you mean by that."
They both stare into each other as Ted finally leans towards him, gently pressing his lips onto his.

Old authors note: *WOOOOOOO! GOT THIS ONE DONE BEFORE BED!*
(I've been thinking about making a "Comic" version of this fanfiction, idk if I'll actually do it since it'll take a very long time to make all of the panels but I might do it since I like doing things like that, and another thing. How would you all feel if I made a Ask book for my Kindergarten Teenagers? Or Drawing book for Kindergarten drawings I make)

(08/24/23) Author's note: Hey! So so sorry for the very late update! I cannot say when the next chapter will be out, unfortunately. Life has been something for the past 8 months, a lot of things happening like putting down my cat and raising a puppy along with trying to plan out collage and working has kinda been making it hard to try and get this chapter to look nice and planned out for the story.
Just going to give you all a heads up, this is going to be the start where the story is going to deviate a bit from the original. So all of you older readers will get a new taste that hopefully will be worth the wait!
Also I have been seeing a few of you guys asking if I am going to be reposting/rewriting "Possessive", I have been thinking about it, but I won't say my answer until next chapter. And I hope to give a preview of something I have been working on for a while!
Thank you all for reading!
