Chapter 1

Hello.

Well, that's one word out of the way. This story is for all the Gratsu shippers out there (heck even if you don't ship Gratsu this is for you, cause you're reading this). I just want to say that this story is dedicated to hanlovespasta as you inspired me to write this and i have read, and enjoyed every single one of your stories (The Gratsu oneshots will be the death of me) :P

So, i guess i better get on with writing this. Thanks for reading once again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The trees flew past the window as Natsu Dragneel leaned his chin against his upturned hands. He closed his eyes and sighed, turning his tanned face away from the outside.
Off to yet another orphanage...
Natsu had been transported to different orphanages countless times over the course of his parentless, love deprived life. Each had provided a bed and food for no longer than a few months at a time, every one of them unconsiously piling more and more pressure onto the pinkette's shoulders. (yes his hair was natrally a salmon colour).
New friends, new living space, new rules. And after finally adjusting to the different life, he was off, shipped away to a new home.
(A/N: after looking at the word new for so long, it seems really weird for some reason)
But no matter how many orphanages took him in, and no matter how many of them turfed him out, Natsu was determined to stay optomistic. For one reason: She had wanted him to.
But the journeys were the worst, no doubt about it. The stubbornly silent drivers, the unknown woodlands zipping past the windows, shouting about the freedom that was just out of reach.
The new children's home. FairyTail. A pretty name for a place for unwanted kids.
No. Not unwanted. Unfortunate.
And that's exactly what Natsu was. Unfortunate. His parents snatched away from him at such an early age. The first couple of homes were awful, older kids that just couldn't care less about Natsu.
But there was no use in dwelling on the past. That was history, and everyone who has ever been to high school knows that no one has the time to give a damn about that.
The trees were thinning out a little now, and a couple of lonley buildings were popping up on the hills.
Fields all around, filled with crops and cattle.
And Lord almighty, didn't it smell bad.
Ugh, damn my wimpy, city-boy nose.
The countryside was definitly not one of Natsu's favourite places to stay.
**
FairyTail huh? Not too shabby...
The building was pretty large and it seemed to have a gigantic garden. Well, to tell the truth, it was more of a field. The front door loomed above Natsu, with the words 'FAIRYTAIL FOSTER HOME' nailed above it in different coloured letters. It looked pretty childish and the painting wasn't the best. But it gave the place character and Natsu liked that.
Natsu turned around to give his thanks to the driver, but he had already zoomed off, leaving his bags in a puddle just behind him.
Nasty old git.
Natsu quickly picked them up before anymore damage could befall his precious belongings. The tip of his dragon-scale pattered scarf dragged in the puddle and Natsu snatched it away. All this hassle just because of that grumpy driver. Lord Voldemort would probably be more polite than that old guy. He didn't even wish him good luck.
Natsu dramatically shook his fist down the deserted road and howled.
"Thee shall never forget thy sin!" He wailed, stomping his feet and spreading his arms wide. Someone snorted behind him and Natsu spun round quickly, his face flushing red.
A blonde stood there, stifling her laughter. She wore a light blue crop top with a matching skirt. Her long hair was swept up into a half-drop and she wore pink flip-flops on her feet. Natsu probably would've found her very pretty. You know, if he liked girls.
"Nice acting, but you need to work on your Old English," Blondie snorted, placing her hands on her hips. "My names Lucy. What's yours?"
Natsu smirked.
"Now if i said my name was William Shakespear, would you still correct my English?"
"Of course," Lucy stated solemly. "The original died years ago. Therefore, you could be completly illiterate and yet still be a Shakespear."
"Touchè"
Lucy took one of Natsu's bags and started towards the building, Natsu following close behind.
"So then William-"
"Natsu"
"So then, Natsu. What brings you here?"
**
Having just finished re-telling his story for the Foster Home's owner, Mister Makarov, Natsu slumped on the worn out sofa watching a kiddie show with two little children. He couldn't quite remember their names. Somthing along the lines of Ronnie and... Whale?
Lucy entered the room and smiled at them.
"Wassup Romeo, Wendy?"
Ahhh Romeo and Wendy. Close enough.
Not taking his eyes away from the screen that was currently sporting a yellow dog and a dude in a bear hat, Romeo waved in Lucy's direction.
"The sky?"
"Oh haha, very funny smartass," Lucy shot back, swishing her hair dramatically, jutting out a hip and sighing. "Have you been hanging out with Gajeel again?"
"Ding, Ding, Ding! We have a winner!" Cried Romeo, finally turning round to look at them. He grinned cheekily and stuck his tongue out.
Lucy sighed again and turned to Natsu, tugging him up, out of his sofa crease. She picked up one of his bags, handed a suitcase to him and beckoned for him to follow.
"We found a free room. It's not big, but with a little bit if love it will do nicely." Lucy seemed very excited about it all as the pair ascended the stairs. Every door they passed was flung open, kids everywhere.In one room, a burly guy who looked about the same age as Natsu was screaming viciously at a TV screen, clutching an X-Box remote in his hands.
A girl with red glasses and blue hair that was held back out of her face with a yellow head band was cooped up in a corner with a book, somehow ignoring a raging argument between a scary looking red head and a huge, buff boy with white-blonde hair.
Lucy hurriedly pulled Natsu away from the commotion and they finally reached the top floor. Two doors stood there. One, like all the others in this noisy hell hole, was thrown open. Obviously that would be Natsu's room. The other was shut tight, painted a dark blue.
Lucy pushed Natsu into his room and flung the bags onto the bed. She ripped them open and began throwing all his clothes into a drawer next to her. Natsu opened another and began finding places for each of his precious momentos from old friends and foster carers.
"Awe, this is a cute picture!" Lucy cooed at the framed snapshot of 7 year old Natsu. She placed it on top of the bedside table next to a little statue of a dragon.
When the dreadfully boring task of unpacking was finally at an end they both slumped on the bed. But one thing was nagging at Natsu, and he couldn't get it out of his head. That door...
"Hey Luce"
"Yes Mister Shakespear?"
"What's behind that door out in the hallway?"
Lucy paled a little and stared at her hands. Why was this such a touchy subject? Natsu had just thought it was a forbidden store room or something of the sort.
"Urm, well..." Lucy mumbled quietly.
"That's Gray Fullbuster's room..."
How was the first chapter? Sorry for all the NaLu in this chapter, i assure you. This is a strictly Gratsu fanfic. 100% homo :P
Well, i hope you enjoyed this, and i can't wait to see you all (hopefully) in the next chapter (~°_°)~
