~Madison
After I got home, I decided to tell my dad about my article for the paper. He didn't seem as thrill as my mom would. But that was how dad was, you'd tell him something that meant a lot to you, and he wouldn't give a shit about it.
While my dad was making dinner, I kept hearing a knock on the door and some chattering outside. It sounded like a female. Is my dad trying to date other women again?
I opened the door and there she was, my mom; so beautiful and still looked like she was in her late twenties. I missed her so much. I leaped right into her arms as if I was a child again. It felt good. I couldn't even believe she was right in front me. It felt like a dream.
"Madison, you've grown so fast. Look at you, so beautiful. I've missed you so much dear." Her voice never changed. It still sounded like an angel.
"Mom, what are you doing here?"
"Well, I'll be staying at the hotel couple miles down because I've missed you too much and I had to be here in the person to share the news."
"Kat, what are you doing here?" my dad said stunned. He looked so surprised to see her. They both looked at each other like they were meeting for the first time. Love at first sight. Maybe that's why she was back. She wants to get back together with my dad. A second wedding, one that I can actually be a part of and experience. Too much good news in one day.
It felt good to hear my dad call her Kat like back in the days. She only allowed my dad and her parents to call her Kat, to everyone else, it was Katherine.
"It's good to see you too Frank. Anyways, I'm here not only to celebrate Madison's outstanding article in the paper, but for another reason." She showed out her hand and there was a huge rock on her ring finger. About three times bigger Han the ring my dad bought for her.
"I'm getting married."
Now I know they're not getting back together.
•
That wasn't really news that I wanted to hear. Her getting married to who? I don't even know the man. How did they meet? Why did they decide to get married? Why did she wait until now to tell me? At least she was staying for dinner.
"Maddie, I can't wait to meet Cameron tomorrow. He seems like such a well-raised boy." My mom said seeing up the dinner table.
"Well I can't wait to meet this Mason guy of yours. He just better be worth it." I said with a bit of an attitude. In the fairy tales, the parents always get back together. Why couldn't my life be a fairy tale?
"Madison, don't worry, you guys will both get to meet him."
"Yippee." I said sarcastically.

Dinner wasn't exactly what you would call a night you want to remember. It was awkward. Mom went on and on about her new fiancé Mason, and never asked me about my article. After dinner, I went to my room to tell Cameron. He was happy yet sympathetic. He was happy to hear that my mom was back and couldn't wait to meet her, but also sympathetic, because I'll be a bridesmaid, watching my mommy marry off some other guy. How will my dad feel? What if he's the best man or something? That would be so awkward. "Hey honey, can I talk to you for a second?" Mom said knocking on my door. At least she knocks.
"Sure mom." Seeing her in my room felt so weird now been years since I've last seen her. "I was just on the phone with Cam. He can't wait I meet you."
***"And I can't wait to meet him either, but I want to talk about Mason."
"Okay. What about him?"
"Well, I noticed at dinner that you weren't so interested about Mason, and I just wanted to tell you that he cannot wait to meet you. I've told him a lot about you, and he admires you greatly. In fact, tomorrow when Cameron comes to meet me and your dad, how would you love to spend the night at the hotel with me and Mason? I'm sure you'll love him, and the hotel. It has an amazing pool, a fitness room, and a cozy lounge to work on your upcoming articles."
"Sure, that sounds like fun. And by the way, I talked to Gavin, and he think he wants me to do higher opportunities for the paper, like maybe being co-anchor on the schools news team! Every morning!"
"Madison! That's amazing! I'm very proud of you. You have to take that job. It'll look great on college resumes." Talking to my mom, it made me feel whole again. Like all my pieces inside fitted perfectly. I haven't felt this way in so long. "Well, I'll leave you to whatever you were doing. I'm very proud of you Madison." she said kissing my forehead.
It's good to have Mom home.
