She walks with little confidence,
Scared everyday by those around her.
Her wardrobe dark and gothic,
But she likes it, that's what matters right?

She doesn't smile or share her grace,
Most people don't seem to care anyways.
She's so shy and introverted,
But there's someone watching out for her.

He watches her every day,
Protecting her,
Observing her,
Beginning to love her.

Yet she doesn't know;
To him she can't know.
So he waits,
His heart sinks farther to an abyss for her.

She takes the days one step at a time,
Watching her back.
She can handle herself,
Her reputation proceeds her.

It started long ago,
The story he doesn't know.
She was played with,
And hurt.

Her past ripped by man,
Her purity, innocence, grace...
Happiness...
Taken from her.

She tells no one,
Not even those who care; no one knows.
She trusts no one,
Can't be betrayed if you let no one close.

She'll never tell him either;
She doesn't know what he's doing for her.
Having her in safekeeping,
She had nothing to worry about.
In his eyes.

But she'll always be scared.
Scared of the future,
Scared of herself,
Scared for those she loves,
Scared she can't protect everyone above herself.
But she'll always try.

Trying means she may not succeed,
She may get lost.
Lose herself,
And her heart.
Her cleverness get the best of her,
And the old her slips away.

He could help her if only she knew him;
He could tell her the worth she holds.
He could protect her.
He could save her.

But she won't let him.
She doesn't want to hurt him.
To protect him,
She won't let him in.

She won't even risk it.
And  so there she goes.
Lost her humanity,
Protecting everyone else.
That's all she ever hoped for.

And it tore him apart.
She's lost,
He could've saved her.
But he needs to realize,
She never wanted to be saved.

She wanted to make sure ones she loved were saved first.
