Y/N AND HOPPER FINALLY PULLED away from the comforting hug they found themselves in, standing up to their feet.

Hopper offered his hand to help Joyce to her feet, her larger more serious wounds on her stomach and thigh were still a bit tender.
They weren't fully healed and still caused some pain, but they were healed enough to save Joyce's life.

Once Joyce finally stood to her feet, she was a bit shaky on her balance before she felt Hopper's comforting hand on her shoulder to help steady her.
She looked up at his hand that was placed atop her shoulder, her eyes trailing up his arm to see his concerned face with slightly parted lips.

She then turned to look at Y/N, her eyes already glistening with happy tears at the sight of Joyce in front of her. She's waited so long to see her.

Joyce pursed her lips in a smile, her eyes softening at the sight of the girl she considers as her own child in a sense. She took a few uneven steps toward's Y/N, Hopper's hand helping her reach her.

Joyce reached both her hands to cup either sides of Y/N's face gently, her breathing now threatening to shutter with each round of tears she felt coming. She just couldn't believe she was actually here.

Joyce felt so awful seeing how exhausted Y/N looked. She looked so different, so much more mature.

She's grown up so fast in the span of a few months.

Her hair was cut shorter to hover just above her shoulders, her face was dirtied with sweat and a thin layer of grime from dirt.

Y/N eyes had this foreign look that was just so emotionally tired and scarred, that no child should ever have. She was different. She had gone through a lot over these past few months.

But ultimately she was alive, and she was here.

Joyce breathed a chuckle, Y/N returning her soft smile before Joyce exhaled, "Oh thank god.."

She pulled her into tight hug, like a worried mother reuniting with her lost child. And it was true.

Y/N buried her nose into the crook of Joyce's shoulder, her breathing shuttered at the stress that she's been holding in for so long finally let go in Joyce's comforting embrace.

Joyce rubbed her back soothingly, encouraging Y/N to just let it all out. "I'm so proud of you, sweetheart.."

Y/N nodded as she pulled away, quickly trying to wipe away her tears. She hated crying, and she hated people seeing her cry.

Y/N smiled softly through her glossy eyes, her gaze glancing at her father who gave her a prideful smile.
Joyce followed Y/N's gaze to see her looking a Hopper, her eyes immediately locking.

It almost looked as if Hopper couldn't believe that he was actually physically able to be with her. Like he was just making sure that she was real, unlike when he visits her through the void.

Joyce's eyes met Hopper's with a twinkling spark of surprise, and pure joy to see him.
They stood there, almost frozen in shock that they were both psychically there together and merely inches from each other.

She noticed all the new little cuts and bruises on his face, his eyes had a sense of utter exhaustion yet determination ; it was obvious that he and Y/N had been through an awful lot.

And Joyce felt horrible for not finding them sooner to prevent that emotionally tired look in Jim's eyes.

Joyce then noticed Jim evaluating her face the same way, his eyes trailing all around her face. She reached her hand to cup his cheek, softly running her thumb over his stubble that she so dearly missed making fun of him of.

That's when it suddenly all became clear. Jim was really in front of her.

And he saved her.

"Jim.." She breathed, a soft smile curling at her lips.

Jim smiled softly while he reached to cup his hand over the hand that Joyce held to his cheek, softly running his thumb over the back of her hand. "Joyce.."

She smiled with a thin layer of happy tears coating her eyes, launching to embrace Jim in a hug that she had hoped made up for the lost time for the moment.

For Joyce to be in Jim's embrace again, was all that she needed.

And for Jim to be held in the arms of the woman he's loved so dearly for so long, was enough to make up for all the time lost.

And as Y/N watched her father look content for the first time in months, she smiled softly seeing that he was finally happy being reunited with Joyce, even for the moment while they stood in the middle of a dangerous alternate dimension.

Her telepathy began to subconsciously sense a certain potent feeling inside both Joyce and Hopper's minds, directed towards each other.

It was a passionate feeling, a look of pure affection that was exchanged so intensely between Hopper and Joyce.

It could only be described as love.

That feeling inside their thoughts were so intense and potent, and it was the same emotion that Y/N noticed that Mike directed towards her when she saw him through the void.

And then that's when Y/N realized that the emotion she picked up on in Mike's mind, was indeed, love. Just like she had heard him say.

Love? Mike loved her?

Y/N's eyes widened as she realized, that the guy she's loved for so much of their lives, her first best friend, actually loved her back.

She couldn't help the blush that rose in her cheeks while she looked down at the ground, a soft smile curling her lips as she felt fuzzy just thinking about seeing Mike again, especially knowing that he felt the same way about her.

She couldn't wait to get back to him to finally profess their feelings for one another, and finally see where it takes them.

But then, she also pieced together something else.

Why would Joyce and Murray come into the upside down to come and get her and Hopper even though she told Mike to tell everyone to stay out of her way?

"Dammit Mike, you idiot." Y/N cursed under her breath.

Mike must've never even told the gang Y/N's plan. He must've never told them that Y/N and Hopper didn't need any help.

He ignored her one instruction.

He put Murray and Joyce in danger because of his own stubbornness. This is exactly what Y/N was trying to prevent from happening.

Then, all at once, all the warm fuzzy feelings that Y/N felt for Mike, dispersed and were replaced with anger and irritation towards him.

The nerve of that idiot.

Y/N pushed all her human and rational loving emotions to the side, to prevent herself from getting distracted from the problem at hand.

She instead chose to embrace her heightened abilities, that way, they could all escape this hellish dimension.
And so that she could really see Mike for the first time in what seemed like years..and give him a piece of her mind.

"Would someone please tell me.." Murray blurted out breaking the silence, obviously in shock and shaken. "What in the absolute hell just happened here?"

Murray exclaimed, his eyes wide as his eyes flickered between Hopper and Y/N as Jim pulled away from hugging Joyce.
Y/N looked at her dad with questioning eyes, their mind locked in a telepathic conversation.

Tell them later.

"Please explain how Y/N, a sixteen year old, has the godlike ability, to bring Joyce back to life like it was nothing?! And please tell me how Jim choked the life out of that monster that was attacking Joyce?!"

Y/N and Hopper chuckled at Murray's outburst, understanding his confusion. Joyce nodded alongside Murray, agreeing with his questions.

Moments before, she had been on the brink of death, only to have Y/N simply touch her to bring her back to life.

How would Y/N know how to do that? How would Hopper know how to kill that monster so efficiently?

The overwhelming actuality that Hopper and Y/N were right there with her, still outweighed all her questions.

There were so many questions she wanted to ask, but no energy to ask them.

"We'll explain everything later. Promise." Hopper offered, waving off his questions for now.
The story of how him and Y/N could do the things they can, was too long to be told right now.

"Murray." Y/N's voice was bold and determined. "Lead us to the gate that leads back home."

Murray was slightly taken aback by her confidence, but instead scoffed with disbelief, shaking his head at the fact that they ignored his pressing questions.
But he gave in, exhaling as he began walking to lead the way.

Hopper reached to gently swing Joyce's arm around his shoulders to help her walk because of her sore wounds, limping as she began walking alongside Hopper and followed Murray.

Y/N began to follow behind the rest of the group, watching their backs in case of any other surprises that might decide to show up.
For the moment, she pushed her more human instincts to the side to embrace her more heightened instincts in order to help everyone survive.

There were so many thoughts flowing through everyone's minds. Y/N could tell, her telepathy picking up on everyone's jumbled and chaotic thoughts at once.

Hopper and Y/N knew that everyone would have many questions, but now just wasn't the time to answer any.

Y/N's thoughts were suddenly cut short when she felt this familiar chill run through her spine, a sign of her precognition telling her that there was something was up.

And as she did indeed look up, her eyes were met with a sight that was so relieving to see, especially after all that they've gone through to get here.

It's intimidating stance and chillingly eerie stance never failed to unease Y/N and Hopper each time they faced it. It's vine like threads draped across the entrance, with a hue of dark blue on the other side.

The gate.

"Oh thank god." Murray exhaled with relief that he actually found it successfully. "This is it."

Y/N stopped walking once she reached her father's side, both their eyes gazing up at the gate.

It was actually right there.

This was where everything started. This was where they first entered the upside down to survive all those months ago during the battle of Starcourt.

The Battle of Starcourt. The last time she saw her friends. The last time she saw Mike.

Everyone was just on the other side. All her friends, her family.

They were just on the other side. They were really right there.

And Y/N didn't even notice her eyes watering just at the thought of being so close to home.

"You alright, kid?" Her father asked from above her, looking down with a soft smile.

He felt the same sense of nostalgia that his daughter felt.

Y/N nodded, quickly wiping whatever tear escaped her eyes. "Yeah.."

Hopper nodded with a proud smile. He was proud of both of them for surviving. He was proud of his daughter.

Hopper, Joyce, and Murray all began walking closer to the gate, preparing to enter through it, but it was then that Y/N stiffened.

She felt this odd feeling that they were being followed. It was a bad feeling.
And it didn't long for Y/N to engage her precognition, her eyes flashing grey as she tried to see what her instincts were telling her.

But it seemed, that she was a bit too late.

Because when she turned around, that's when she saw was her instincts were telling her.

Groups of what looked to be Russian soldiers, without hazmat suits, marching in a synced run together, with no weapons in hand — heading straight for Y/N and Hopper.

"Shit." Y/N cursed aloud, earning the attention of her father as he turned around.

"What's wrong-.." He began, but trailed off once he caught sight of the groups of soldiers barreling towards them at intense speeds.

"No.." He shook his head, frustratedly.

But as the soldiers got closer to them, Y/N noticed that many of them looked familiar. She had been in cells alongside next to them in the laboratory.

These weren't Russian soldiers. They were the successful experiments.

That's why the soldiers didn't need any hazmat suits. Because they're like Y/N and Hopper. They've got the demogorgon blood inside them, helping them accustom to the harsh conditions of the upside down with no effort.

She noticed something else.

"They took the pills.." Y/N breathed as she sensed the experiments' heightened auras of their powers.
She realized that they took the brainwashing pills that Brenner had used to make them compliant with his commands.

Dangerous heightened humans who took brainwashing pills to be controlled like puppets to carry out every command given to them, were beyond lethal.

That's what Y/N and Hopper could have become.

"We have to go!" Y/N called out, turning around to run towards her father to try and help them through the gate.
They all made a run for the gate as fast at they could with their injuries.

And they were only a few feet away from stepping through the gate, when a voice called out to Y/N and Hopper.

"Experiment 015 and 016."

Y/N and Hopper froze at the calls of their assigned numbers, they voice sending eerie chills through them as they winced with disgust.

They hesitantly turned around slowly to be met with groups of the experiment soldiers all standing at command a couple paces away from them, their eyes dilated from the pills at they awaited their instructions.

And emerging in front of them, was a man in a hazmat suit that the voice belonged to.

"Brenner.." Hopper spat under his breath, his arm around Joyce's shoulder tightening protectively ever so slightly.

Y/N's eyes immediately shifted to their grey shade in defense, ready and prepared for anything Brenner was to throw at them.

She knows his plan. She knows why he's here.

She read it all in his mind through her telepathy. She knows what he hoped to gain here.

She remembered the conversation she overhead while Brenner spoke with another Russian guard before he tried to give her those brainwashing pills.

"I will be instructing her?"

"Yes, you will. When the children at Hawkins come here and attempt their rescue of experiment 016, we will then engage the operation to recapture my old experiment, 011. I believe I can replicate my success that I had with 016 on 011."

And Y/N wouldn't let it happen. She'll kill him before he even had the chance.

But before she could make a move forward to confront Brenner, time seemed to slow down.

Her precognition kicked in once more. But this time, she could actually see flashes of images play through her mind of what was going to happen soon.

And in those flashes, she saw hoards of demogorgons running in packs as they emerged from the gate that led to Russia, not too far away.

They were on their way here.

Brenner's been trying to stall for time to wait for them to catch up.

Brenner wanted to either kill Y/N and Hopper, or take them back to Russia with him.

And he was going to do anything to get his way, even if it meant releasing lethal monsters from another dimension that Y/N and Hopper shared 50% of their DNA with.

How stupid could he be? Releasing them free? How could he be so certain that the wild monsters of this dimension won't attack his own soldiers instead?

There were so many of them. The trained demogorgons were barreling for them, with the intent to kill anything in its path. Plus, the mindless experiments at Brenner's beck and call.

Y/N knew. She knew they were outnumbered.

They had have a fighting chance together, but with Joyce and Murray's lives at stake, they couldn't risk that.

Y/N had the best fighting chance.

She had more power than her father, and it's really her that Brenner wants to keep.
With her multiple abilities, she could actually have a chance.

She knew. She knew that her family was in trouble.

And she knew what she had to do to protect them.

Y/N turned around to look past Joyce to see the gate was beginning to fade in its brightness and availability to open.
It was getting weaker, like whatever was holding it open, couldn't do it for much longer.

It was either now, or never.

Y/N then shifted her gaze to look her father in his lightened blue eyes, her own grey eyes flashing. She gave him a soft look, placing her hand on his shoulder.

"You guys need to go through the gate. Now."

Y/N stared into her father's eyes with the upmost sincerity, the upmost seriousness she could ever be.
She needed her father to be safe and okay, and this was the only way.

Hopper looked taken aback, his eyebrows furrowed as if he couldn't believe what Y/N was suggesting.

"W-What?" He practically shouted. "Y/N, there's no way I'm leaving you here, stop."

He resisted, his eyes concerned for his daughter as he could see the soldiers behind her beginning to get closer to them.

Y/N expected this from her dad, knowing that she gets her stubbornness from him.

"Dad." She whispered, just soft enough for him to hear, reaching up to press a kiss to his temple. "Trust me."

She smiled weakly as she took a few steps back, her dad's face looked uncertain as to what she was going to do. But she simply shrugged, somehow knowing what he was thinking.

She didn't know what she was going to do. She just knew what she had to do to keep them safe.

With her eyes burning an intense stormy grey, she lifted her hands to use her telekinesis, and closed to her eyes with a deep breath, preparing herself.

"Y/N-.." Hopper called to try to stop her, but he was cut off.

Y/N's eyes opened to reveal her glowing grey eyes again, kneeling down to throw a large wave of her telekinetic power to sweep Joyce, Murray, and her father, all off their feet and sent them soaring through the gate.

The gate glowed with their entires, and Y/N watched with satisfaction while she caught her breath, her grey eyes still glowing as she felt better knowing they were safe.

The gate's glow dimmed, and Y/N knew that it was dangerously weak.

Some part of Y/N worried that the gate was going to close on her.
But she pushed that fear away, and turned around to direct her glowing eyes right at Brenner as he stood in front of his army.

She gritted her teeth at the man who sparked a new fear in her.

She took a few steps to stand in the middle of the front of the gate, defensively. She stared daringly at Brenner through his hazmat suit, practically snarling at him.

He chuckled to himself . "Very well done, 016. I better add 'telekinetic field' to the list of your abilities, shouldn't I?"

Y/N scoffed, shaking her head as she rolled her eyes before staring him dead in the eyes again.

"Go to hell." She spat, her stance confident.

Brenner wasn't fazed. Instead, he took a few bold steps closer to Y/N.

"You didn't take your pills, did you 016?" He asked in that monotone that Y/N despised.

Y/N continued her glare. "I don't know, what do you think?"

Brenner shrugged, looking around as he took leisurely steps around. He was definitely waiting for the demogorgons to catch up.

Because he knew how powerful Y/N was. He knew he would need help.

He knew he didn't stand a chance against what he created.

But that didn't mean that he wouldn't try everything he could to get what he wanted. But he didn't know that Y/N was willing to do the exact same.

She was willing to do whatever she had to do to protect her friends. She was willing to do whatever it took to protect her family.

And she was willing to do whatever she had to do, in order to kill the man that scarred her for the rest of her life : Dr. Brenner.
