Chapter 7 Friends In Pain
Chapter 7
Friends in pain
Edwin’s pov
She was rushed into the room with my shirt in red as I carried her in my arms, bridal style and put her down at the bed which I did not want to. I did not want to let her go. They took her inside in the room for treatments and I was not allowed in.
Bloody damn! Why can’t I be in? I love her. I can’t leave her alone especially when she’s bleeding her life out from her wrists.
I started shouting. “Let me in . let me in . I can’t see her. Shit I cannot see through this glass. Why?”
A soft hand pulled me around from my elbow. They stretched and reached my eyes with her shirt and wiped my tears with her sleeves and said, “You cannot see because you are crying with tears in your eyes. Now get a peep.”
I turned around to see her through a circular frame of glass in the white door which was closed. The doctors and nurses were fiddling and doing something with her and she was attached to few machines, some medical stuff. Her face whiter than ever, probably pale, her eyes closed holding lot of emotions behind them. Her pink lips were not luscious now as they had lost lot of blood. But she still looked beautiful.
“Beautiful, isn’t she?” I asked to the girl behind me. I don’t know who she is but she was affected by my pain.
“Yeah she is indeed very beautiful. Stella.” The girl said and realization hit me and I turned around to see the girl behind me with black eyes behind a pair of spectacles and ponytail tied. She was very young and was wearing ivory trousers looked like that of corduroy and white shirt which had long sleeves with long frill at the edges with which she had wiped my tears. I did not recognize her as if seen her or such but she did not feel like a stranger. She also looked a little worked up with my situation. I was about to ask her when doctor called me, “Mr. Parker”
“Yes sir” I rushed towards the doctor as if the girl didn’t exist at all. Actually all that mattered in my life was the girl who was lying unconscious in the hospital bed and I did not know what to do about it.
Rosie’s pov
I had made all the payments due till now and for the next month. Thanks to the man who’s madly in love. I am not taking his name because I had promised myself I wouldn’t think about him. His generosity has helped me a lot. I can never thank him enough.
My dad is same as he was last time, breathing yet unconscious but thankfully he is there. I really don’t know what I’d do if I loose him.
I have nothing to do but I don’t want to go home. Atleast I am relaxed that I am no longer indebted to any one. Though only for couple of months but I’ll work it though. I was waiting outside my dad’s bedroom seeing the machine beep that his heart was beating and he’s alive. It gives me sense of relief somehow.
Then I heard a loud yelling. “Get side. Doctor doctor. Please take her.” His voice was full of pain and he was scared to loose some one like I was when I came to know my parents had met with an accident.
I was somehow attracted to the voice. I felt I had heard it before and somewhere it pained me too.
When I turned around I was shocked to see the same hazel green eyed guy.
The honest green eyes were now full of tears. His sculpted chest with striped shirt was now coated with blood as he put the girl down on the bed. He was actually begging to the doctors to save his love.
Oh my gosh! he is Edwin. Fuck the no name rule. He is so broken. I can’t let him be. He needs a shoulder to lean on.
I went to him. He was sobbing and was longing to get a glimpse of his wife.
He said “Shit I cannot see her.”
I wiped her tear with the frill of my shirt and said, “You cannot see because you are crying with tears in your eyes. Now get a peep.”
He turned around lost in his thoughts and mumbled “Beautiful, isn’t she?”
Although she was pale with all that blood loss but she still was most beautiful girl I had seen. “YEAH she is indeed very beautiful, Stella”
He then turned around with confused expression. I was scared he did not want to talk to a whore and I thought of backing up. Then the doctor called him and he rushed towards him.
Edwin’s pov
“Mrs. Parker is stable now.” The doctor uttered the most beautiful words existing in the universe.
“Thank you so much doctor. Thank you” I shook his hand. Never ever in my life could I thank him enough to save the love of my life?
“It seems Mrs. Parker has committed a suicide attempt. Although she is physically fine and safe right now but we are more worried about her mental condition. It appears that she might be stressed and there are possibilities that she might repeat it. So we have to take care of both her physical and mental stabilities. We have given her sedatives right now and she would sleep for quite a long. Once she gets up there would be cops coming over to take her word. That would just be a formality. You don’t have to worry about it. In the mean while you have almost six hours to go home and rest. That’s all” the doctor said.
“Thanks doctor” relief passing through my veins. I felt I could breathe now that my Stella was good and by no chance was I leaving her alone here.
“Did you hear Stella is fine?’ I moved back to the same girl. I was so happy I wanted to share it with someone and this girl was the only person I could commute with.
“Yeah I did.” She showed me thumbs up when her phone rang.
I was mentally trying to recollect in my memories where had I seen her then,
“No this is not possible. I just left him sleeping.” She shouted on the phone worried like shit.
“Okay… okay… right I am here at the hospital where my father is. I am sending the ambulance right away.”
And she sobbing ran to the reception.
“Maam my brother just met with an accident. Please send the ambulance immediately. It’s an emergency.” She said to the receptionist.
“And how do you think you are going to pay for it.” The man standing besides the receptionist said evilly smirking at her.
“Sir I beg of you. This is an emergency. I promise to pay every single penny. Please help. My brother is physically challenged dammit” And she started crying bitterly.
“hush shhhh” I pulled her into a hug. I was not scared now because she did not look like a prostitute but a teeny meeny girl who is in pain. Did I mention she’s equally sexy too and that might be one of the reason that had dragged her into this profession unwillingly. I cooed her, ‘I’ll take care of it. Now don’t worry” and I left to talk to the authorities doing the essentials.
She stood in one corner worried like hell and talking to someone on phone.
The ambulance arrived and we both rushed to check whether the immediate care was taken.
“He’ll be fine.” I said to ease her worries
“Yeah” she repeated much to herself.
“Would you talk to the doctor or shall I go and talk?” I asked seeing her stressed condition.
“I think I’ll talk to him” she said and went to the doctor and I heard my name being called “Mr. Parker”
“Yes maam” I sprinted towards the nurse who was calling.
“There’s an emergency sir.” With that I almost skipped a beat and my heart now beating fiercely not wanting the worst to happen.
“Is Mrs. Parker allergic to some drug?” she asked.
“Not to the date I know.” I replied.
“Well now she is with some cephalexin.” She stated jolting it down in her notepad.
“How is she feeling now?” I rushed to her room looking through the glass frame again and the nurse nudging behind.
“You cannot enter inside.” The nurse stated “The doctors are working on her and you’ll be informed. She’s hopefully going to be fine.”
I moved my hands through my hair in utmost stress I was going through, fear running down my veins. How badly I wanted to see her angelic smile that complimented her ocean blue eyes. ‘It’s my entire fault. I shouldn’t have left her alone.” I banged my fists against the wall in frustration hurting my knuckles in absolute pain.
“Don’t hurt yourself” the same black eyed girl said keeping her hand against my fist blocking me to repeat it again.
“It’s all because of me. What an asshole I have been?” I cursed myself.
“No. Don’t blame yourself. Look for healings and not the reasons that caused the injuries.” She said honestly. Concern was clear in her voice.
I simply shrugged trying to pull back the tear in my eyes so she couldn’t see. She’s been so strong looking after two sick members of the family and I felt like a nut.
“Coffee” she offered.
“Not till she’s fine.” I denied.
‘Mr. Parker your wife is stable now. The anti allergic drugs have done their job. Only be careful next time that she is allergic to cephalexin. We have added the same to her reports too.” The nurse mentioned calming my nerves.
“Thanks maam. I’ll remember it for sure.” And a smile crept my face. “When can I see her?”
“Not before 5 in the evening.” She stated adjusting her glasses on her rim of the nose, now that she doesn’t have to note down anything.
“So can I have your company for the coffee?” the girl with black eyes, I cannot remember her name asked raising an eyebrow.
‘Well okay.” I asked her to precede with my hands and followed her.
“So your brother’s fine now?” I asked as we seated in the cafeteria of the hospital. It was a small room mostly crowded with people in stress and some relaxed while some drooping.
“Yeah he’s okay. This takes a day to settle down.” She answered easily.
“He gets it often?” I asked shocked.
“Once in two months. Convulsions. He’s actually very weak.” She said grimly.
“I’ll get the coffee” I said and went to the counter where a man in his mid forties was taking orders. He had short eyes with salt and pepper hair. I ordered him coffee which he served immediately. I handed him a 10 dollar bill at the counter and picked two coffees as I seated in the table with her.
“It’s nice and hot yeah.” she commented childishly.
“Yeah it is.”
“You cannot keep your mind off her?” she asked.
“I actually blame myself for this” I replied and got lost in my reverie

Edwin’s reverie:
“Why the fuck are you shouting. Can’t I have peace after a day of hard work?”
“Bloody you work hard and all I do is yell.” Stella shouted even louder.
“Honey please relax and let me watch this football league.” I tried to say calmly
“Go ahead with you football and ignore the living beings here as if they do not exist. They are dead. I wish I died with my dad.” And she started crying.
‘Holy shit’ I murmured to myself and went to her.
“Sweety it’s not like that. It’s just that I am tired. The day was hectic. Stop crying.”
She continued with her crying. It was a regular routine. She would bring her father who just expired a month ago, relate things to it and start sobbing. I was loosing it. I couldn’t see her cry but after a month of his demise she was still grieving.
“Not again Stella. Please. It’s a month now.” I said in frustration. I hate to see tears in her eyes. Why doesn’t she understand?
“So after a month of your dear one’s death you stop loving that person? What kind of human being are you? I guess you are not even going to moan my death for a week?” Stella started cursing.
“You are impossible Stella.” I said and left my house to the bar. Those words were hurting me so bad. I drank and drank till I could forget.

“And the rest you know better than me. The whole last night thing and when I returned back home she was lying bleeding in my bath tub, her wrists being cut. I wish I wouldn’t have left her. I wish I would have acted better, given her company then she would have been fine. I am such an idiot.” I banged my fist to the table again and she jerked back. “Sorry” I muttered for my benaviour.
“Don’t be and don’t blame yourself. It was simply flow of emotions. Don’t think about sad times. Think about good times spent with her.” She said rubbing my hand that I had banged.
“How do I think about good times when all I can think is I had hurt her?” I said pulling my hair, I was that frustrated.
“Sshhhh. Don’t be stupid. Think about good times you have spent with her. Okay I have an idea. Complete your story you were sharing.” She said moving her fingers on my hand in circles.
“Do you think it will help?” I asked invariably.
“Yeah it will rewind your good times spent together and you’ll feel good about her. Say it.” she incented.
“Where was I? I mean in the so called Lovestory.” I chuckled.
“That’s not bad. A sly smile is still fine. You were where her boyfriend lifted her moving her in circles.” She guided as if she’s just finished reading the last line that I hadnarrated to her.
“Right then. Poor chap he thought Stella was in love with him.” I said continuing with my love story

Edwin’s love story [flashback]
Mark was spinning Stella but what I could see was she was staring at me trying to read my expressions. But I was too hurt to understand. My heart had broken into a million pieces and I did not have courage to stay back and pick them. I ran and ran till there was no more running left in me. I went to my dorm and locked myself in the room.
But that was not for long as I knew that my coach believes in ‘No shit business’ as far as the game is concerned and this was Finals
. Inter college Finals.
He would take no shit even if it was from one of his star players. So when the door of my room was banged for lunch I had no other choice but to go as I had already missed my breakfast reasoning that I had it already and now everybody knew that I haven’t left my room since then.
I went to the dining hall with my coach and team mates. There was usual mocking and commenting by the coach and friends but I kept my mouth shut. My coach did raise an eyebrow, hitting me on the elbow and said, “Whatever it is man. Come out of it. Big day. Cheer up.” I smiled to him giving him a shoulder smack, a manly one. ‘All’s well”.
The coach nodded “Better be”
“Hey listen to the big gossip.” Steward our controller came.
“What’s up?” one of the players from our team asked. I did not care who it was as I was uninterested.
“There‘s a big scene with the event manger” Steward said.
“Who the blue eyed one. What her name is mm… mm… Stella.” Alex said.
Stella’s name took all my attention,
“What happened?” another one; Mac asked.
“Oh his boyfriend turned up today. You might know Edwin? You seem to be close friends.” Steward snapped at me.
I simply shrugged in dismay.
“Tell the gossip man.” Mac said eager to death.
“This man who came in the morning was supposed to her boyfriend and then..”
“And then….” Most of them asked in unison excited to know…
