Chapter 10
Alpha Lady Luna
School wasn't my main concern. Nor was remaining oblivion to the events that transpired over the last few hours.
It's been a day, since we received that box with Casper's hair inside. As a precaution, the younger children were pulled from school on grounds of having an contagious virus.
The words of that letter kept coming back to me. I couldn't figure out who would want to hurt me.
"Where's Santana?" I ask, turning to face her close friends. Friends that has been comforting during this trying ordeal.
"With a few of the others." Haven fans her face with looked like a magazine. "Said he didn't want to miss anything in case he ran into Cas's scent." She looks up at the sky. The sun had just disappeared behind a cloud, but Haven still seem annoyed. I could see her using a spell later to change the weather a bit.
"We scan the whole area, and even track their scent as far as we could. I don't understand why we haven't came up on anything." I fold my arms over my chest to keep from squeezing my nails into my palm. Breaking skin has become an outlet for my pen up frustration, lately.
Isis, leaning against the building to out next class, retrieve his lighter from his Jean pocket while his reaches into his shirt pocket for a cigarette. "I'm thinking we look on the west side. We haven't tried there yet anyway."
"I could have Seth check with the local police force here. He's good with gathering information, and we do need a map of this place and information on everyone here." Blac adds, looking to Haven who stood beside him.
"It's strange. We can't feel the connection with him." Haven says quietly causing everyone to lower their gazes.
She has a point. Why couldn't I or Santana feel Casper? We are his parents. We should be able to feel him, since we were his closest kindred. I filed that information away for later.
"An that letter.." Haven trails off.
"Not much of a scent. Which means it could be someone who has learned to mask their scent as we have, a magical being, or one of our formal traitors."
"Think it's Roman?" Blac looks up, meeting my gaze. His own reflecting the anger and sorrow that always came with Roman's name sliding off his lips.
"I don't think so, but I don't know."
"Looky look," says a Caucasian male, who when by the name of Nick, stopping centimeters from us. "These 'no ones' are still here."
"Though they got the message during gym," Keith, an African American male, says, looking over at Haven. He stood to the right of Nick. A amused smile on his face.
Blac and Isis steps in front of us, instinct telling them to protect the females from potential danger.
'What happened during gym?' I ask Haven.
'These dumbbells thought it was funny to grope my rear, and I sock the one on the right real good. They started to gang on me, and Blac came to my rescue. They were stopped by the professor. Bottom line, Blac got ban, and they got off. Looks like the professor is one of theirs.'
"Make a move, tough guy. I dare you." Keith took a step closer to Blac. At the same time, Blac took one towards Keith.
'Blac stand down. He's not worth it.'
"What's going on here?" Maximus says, coming up from behind the two males.
"Your boys starting trouble with us." Blac says, never breaking eye contact with Keith.
"We have unfinished business. That's all." Nick tells Maximus.
Maximus frowns, clearly unhappy with a potential fight breaking out between the two packs while the unaware individuals stood around. "Well this unfinished business will remain unfinished. You both are on orders to not touch them."
"Come on, man" Nick gaze darts to his beta.
Maximus's tone didn't waver. "Drop it."
"Yo, let's check out." Keith jerks his thumb over his shoulder in a signal to leave.
"Sorry. Those guys like to give the newbies a few rounds. You know." Maximus said once the two was on their way.
"Pleasure to meet them." I said in a sarcastic tone.
Maximus studies me for several seconds. "Yea well, I'll be sure to keep the heat down. Now isn't the time for our packs to be at odds with each other. Not with your kid kidnapped and all."
With that, Maximus left without another word.
"I still believe McCain has something to do with this."
Haven bend down to pick up her backpack and slings it over her shoulder. "We can't prove it. Besides that letter isn't written in his hand writing."
"And I had the cameras at the post office checked." Blac turns to face us once the two werewolves were out of hearing distance. "No one from their pack. In fact, it seems like magic was at play."
"Rigging the security cams. Yep, that's something I would do too." Haven, smiling like a chestnut cat, says, a happy ring to her tone.
"Back to square one. Who do we know magical that is behind this?" Isis pockets his lighter and mash his cigarette end on the brick wall before dropping it to the ground.
"I got class soon, so we'll have to hold off on this conversation. Later we can go over the list of possible people."
Alpha Ashton McClain
The witch said these stuff would be of some help.
Taking a whiff of the pink power, I couldn't help wondering what that witch really was after. Why agree to help me get my mate? Just what was her agenda?
"Alpha?"
"I want you to keep eyes on the witch." Turning, the men, who stood around me, each look upon me with loyalty. My personal guard, they were. The five men I kept close to me, hidden and working in the shadows.
They were the only ones I trusted with the knowledge of the plan to retrieve their Luna. The men who were my to-go men who dealt with those rogues the witch had.
"Make sure those brainless mutts behave and don't do anything to attract attention to us nor reveal themselves to Lady and her pack." I toss the container in my hands to Jake, the leader of my five elite.
"Use the power. And whatever else she gives you. For now, we work with her on her terms until I get my mate." One glance at the clock had my cussing myself. "I gotta go. "
"Yes, Alpha. I'll take care of everything." Jake nods his head and turns to the others. They leave the way they came: silent and leaving no trace.
"Mom is going to break my neck."
I arrive to class a half an hour into the lecture. Her icey glare had me swallowing the lump in my throat. The woman didn't scare me, but she sure as well was one intimidating old bat.
With her eyebrows arch as if she was surprised to see me, she says in that calm way of hers. "I know I'm not a bad mother to have her own son showing up late, if not show up at all, to her class. Let's hear it. What's the excuse this time, Mr. McCain?"
I could hear the snickering from my fellow classmates, including my mate.
"Woke up late. Sorry." I quickly made my way to my seat.
"Earlier to bed and you'll have your beauty sleep, princess." She says knowing full well I hated her making an example for me. "Everyone, Mr. McCain will be sharing with us his interpretation of Do Not Go Gentle into that Good Night by Dylan Thomas."
"Wow." Mothers. Sometimes I wonder why my father was mated to this shrewd woman. I may love her, but I never was a fan of her strict rule: A high education man is the pride of the family image.
"Well, son. Get up here."
Alpha Lady Luna
Another package came that afternoon. This time it contained something even more disturbing.
A piece of clothing from Casper, and another note that reads:
Next time, I'll sent a finger. Hurry up and find him, Lady. Time is ticking away.
One day left
~XOXO
