40. Missing Friends

40. Missing Friends

"So how are we going to kill Klaus?"

"Ugh, can't we just leave that for a bit?"  Damon groaned, taking my hand. "I wanna have fun for once."

"You always have fun." I muttered. "Besides, this is serious."

"Look, we'll start dealing with Klaus next week, ok? For the last 3 days of this week, I would like to have some fun with my girlfriend and her friends."

"Fine." I sighed. "What about, me you, Elena, Bonnie, Caroline-"

I stopped abruptly, shaking my head. Caroline couldn't come with us, neither could Tyler for that fact. They couldn't - because they were dead - because of a stupid man named Klaus.

"It's ok." Damon whispered, pulling me closer into his arms. I snuggled into his chest and closed my eyes, imagining what Caroline would say if she were here. Probably, something like 'You guys are like, the non gross version of Bella and Edward.'

And then I'd laugh, whilst Damon made a comment on how he was much more goodlooking than Edward Cullen. I giggled to mysekf in my head, it would have been the perfect scenario.

Damon kissed my cheek. "It's ok to miss your friends."

"I know." I murmured. "But, Caroline...she was so nice."

"And annoying."

"Hey!"

"What?" Damon smirked. "Just because she's in a better place now, doesn't mean that she's suddenly not an annoying, preppy little Barbie."

I laughed. "Well, I loved her."

"I love you."

"You've never been the sappy romantic type before." I pressed.

"Well, I'm going to be very romantic tonight and take you out."

"Oooh, where?" I grinned.

Damon scooped me up. "You'll see. Now go change into something nice and meet me in the car, ok?"

I raised an eye-brow. "Ok."

                                                                   ***Later***

20 minutes later, Damon had parked his car at the back of the Lockwood house. It felt weird, being parked here without being sat with Tyler, but I ignored it. Like Damon said, it was ok to miss friends.

Damon opened my car door, and I took his hand whilst stepping out.

"You look beautiful." He murmured into my ear.

I was wearing a thin strap, white dress that ended down at my knees. The upper half was designed to look like a corset, and my hair was loosely curled.

"Thankyou." I whispered. "So do you."

And he did. Well, he was Damon so of course he had to look beautiful. He was wearing a pair of loose black jeans along with a cotton white shirt. The first 3 buttons were undone - how like Damon.

Damon smirked. "Don't I always?"

"Don't ruin the moment!"

He pulled on a serious face. "Sorry. Come on."

"Where are we going?" I asked as Damon took my hand and began leading me around the house. We eventually got around to the Founders Court, and I smiled.

"The founders court?"

"Just go with it." Damon murmured as he pulled me over to the centre. He raised an eye-brow. "Go on Bonnie."

"Bonnie?" I questioned.

But before I knew it, the court lit up with about a million white candles surrounding me and Damon in a large circle. I blushed - crazily - and then caught sight of Bonnie skipping away like the little chirp she was.

"Damon this is..."

"No, let me talk."

I giggled. "Ok."

Damon wrapped one arm around my waist, pulling me closer to his chest, and he put the other hand on my cheek.

"Nina, I love you." He murmured. "I love you so, so much and honestly, I think you're the only person that has ever really loved me. You're amazing. You're beautiful, and generous, you do these random little crazy things that nobody understands and you're sometimes a tiny bit annoying. But that's why I love you. And that's why-"

He stopped, untangled himself from my arms and then did the most unexpected thing.

Damon dropped down onto one knee, pulled out a little box from his pocket, flipped it open and held out a large ring to me.

I swear I almost stopped breathing. "You...you're uh...am I still in 1864?"

Damon chuckled. "No, and I'm not proposing."

I let out a sigh of relief. "Oh that's good, I'm only 16."

"What am I doing, is asking you to accept this promise ring. It means that some day, I will marry you and we will spend the rest of our lives together. Please, take this ring - and promise me that you will stay with me for the rest of our lives?"

I smiled, and then knealt down in front of Damon. I held my hand out, and then Damon gently placed the ring on my finger.

Perfect fit.

Damon took my face in his hands, and kissed my lips pasionatley.

"Thankyou." He murmured against my lips. "Now, let's go home."

"We've been out for 5 minutes." I giggled.

"And you want to go back and make me make you some hot chocolate, don't you?" Damon asked, smirking.

"I want marshmallows as well."

Damon gave my lips a quick peck. "You got it."

                                                                   ***Later***

Me and Damon were sitting on the floor in front of the fire with chinese, pizza, and a whole load of junk food. He'd wanted to end the night with a romantic dinner, but junk was pure romance for me.

"All you do is eat."

I nodded. "And eat and eat and eat."

"And eat and eat and eat and eat."

"Have we had that conversation before?" I asked.

Damon wrapped his arm around me. "I think we have."

"I always have such interesting conversations with you." I smiled, tearing a gummy bears head off and eating the little red piece of gum.

"That's because you're not awkward."

"What?!" I cried. "No!"

"What?" Damon chuckled.

"I've been the awkward turtle for years now and-"

I was cut off by Damon's lips pressing against mine and his hands wrapping around my body, pulling me onto his lap.

"You're a turtle then." He whispered.

I smiled. "Thankyou."

Damon pulled me back into the kiss, and I threw my arms around his neck. It felt so good to be close to him - so natural. I didn't care about anything else, anything but Damon. I wanted him, and I wanted him forever.

                                                           ****************************

The next day, I sat down at the kitchen table with Elena and Jenna. I'd explained why I had a ring on my wedding finger, and they breathed a sigh of relief.

"That's not all..."

"There's more?!" Elena cried.

"Well, last night. Me and Damon..."

"Oh my God!" They both exclaimed at the same time.

"That's...wow!" Elena gasped.

"He's like a million years older than you!" Jenna screamed. "I mean, good for you...but did you know that's actually classed as rape?"

My mouth dropped open. "What? No! We didn't have sex!"

The both exhcnaged looks. "Ohhhh..."

"What happened then?" Jenna asked.

"We almost...but then Damon kind of got the hint that I wasn't ready and he said that we didn't need to. He wasn't angry or anything, he just kind of held me for the rest of the night telling me how much he loved me. It was really nice."

"You guys are so cute. And Damon, he's is amazingly hot." Jenna smirked. "You are a very lucky girl Nina."

I nodded. "I know I am."
