30. The Question Everyone Wants Answered
"Dear Diary, Love sucks."
"Damon!" I screamed, toppling over on his bed so that I could sit flat on his stomach. I snatched my diary out of his hands and threw it to the other side of the room. Then I slapped his face.
"Ouch." He muttered. "I was just going to say that it doesn't suck."
"Well it did at that moment." I said, rolling off him and back into my comfy spot. Damon reached his hand over to press down at my neck, then he smirked.
"Love bites."
"Don't get any ideas." I teased. "Besides, I'm not in the mood to be joking at the minute. My sister is currently outside, and so is Klaus."
"Don't worry about it." He murmured, bringing his hand up to stroke my cheeks.
"How can I not?"
"Because...you're with me and I'm a good distraction."
Smiling, I traced my finger tips across his bare chest. "That you are. But you can't distract me from my tiredness...so night."
"No..." He whined, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me literally under him. I giggled, but it sounded like I was choking because of how heavy Damon was on top of me.
"Damon...dying!" I forced out. Damon chuckled and then leaned his head down to kiss the back of my neck, then my shoulder.
"You're so pretty." He murmured into my skin.
"Damon-"
"Shh..." He whispered, making me giggle again. "Just let me admire your skin for a bit."
"My skin?" I asked, raising an eye-brow.
"Yes, your sweet smelling skin."
"What does it smell like?"
"Like lavender and a bunch of other girly stuff."
I laughed. "Do I smell good?"
Damon sighed, and then kissed my neck softly. "Amazing."
We stayed like that for a while. Me smiling stupidly into the pillow, and Damon rubbing my back whilst gently kissing my shoulders. It all felt too perfect.
"Are you upset about Stefan?"
"He's my little brother, I want him back."
"Me too." I admitted. "We'll get him back though, right?"
Damon pulled me up from under my arms and turned me to face him. He kissed my cheek, and forced a little smile. "Course we will. Now, give me a kiss."
I smirked, but nonetheless, leaned in to crush Damon's lips with my own. He traced his finger down my waist and I giggled.
"What?" He smiled against me.
"Tickle spot." I admitted.
"I'll remember that."
"Shut up." I laughed and pressed myself back into the kiss. Damon took my hands and led them to the bottom of his shirt, but just as I was about to pull it over his head, Damon stopped.
"What?" I asked.
"Werewolf." He said, standing up from the bed and straightening out his hair.
"Klaus?"
"No, someone else."
"Where?"
"Outside." He replied. "I'm gonna go check it out, you stay here."
WIth that, he shooted off.
I frowned. "You should know by now that I'm not one to stay put."
I sat up from the bed and made my way over to the door. Once I got down the stairs, I saw Damon standing at the open front door.
"Damon wha-?"
"Toss me my jacket, it's on the banister." He said motionlessly.
Nodding, I reached up and grabbed his leather jacket. I tossed it to him, and he walked outside. I could hear slight whimpering and Damon murmuring something, but apart from that I was completely cut off.
When Damon came back in, he didn't come along.
In his arms was Elena, in nothing but his leather jacket. At first I was terrofied and confused, but then I remembered. Damon said there'd been a werewolf. When werewolves changed back, they didn't appear with their clothes on.
Elena...was she the werewolf?
Was that why she'd gotten so angry?
Everything started to make sense.
"Oh my God..."
"Go get some water." Damon instructed, still motionless. "I'll get her into some clothes."
Knowing that Damon could get Elena changed quicker, I mentally agreed and raced into the kitchen, by which time Damon had vanished upstairs.
I grabbed the first glass that I saw and filled it up with some cold water. By the time I got back into the front room, Damon had already set Elena down on the couch and wrapped a blanket over her.
"Elena?" I murmured, knealing down to her next to Damon.
Her eyes closed, and then back open again. "What...where-"
"Wanna explain to us why I sensed a werewolf and then you're lying naked on my doorstep?" Damon asked, raising his eye-brows.
"Damon." I frowned. I looked back to Elena and took a deep breath. "Elena...are you a werewolf?"
Instead of replying, Elena broke into tears and I grabbed her hand for reassurance.
"I'm so sorry!" She whimpered. "I wanted to tell you but I thought I could handle it! And for a while I could but then I started getting so angry and...Damon I'm so sorry!"
"Why are you sorry?" Damon questioned.
Elena bit her lip and I sighed. "Tell him, Elena."
"No, I can't. I-"
"Tell me or I'll get the wolfsbane." Damon threatened.
Elena nodded and with a deep breath, explained. "Tyler's not the one that bit you. I am."
Everything went quiet, and me and Damon were both completely and utterly confused. Elena bit him? How could she? She was with me and Jeremy the whole time.
"Not possible." Damon said. "The wolf that bit me had Tyler's scent, and you were upstairs with your brother."
"I can explain that." Elena said. "Katherine was never really in the tomb...I mean, she was. But Klaus had his witch get her out the same night. I only know this because, that night after the Founder's Ball, I went out into the woods for no reason and saw Klaus. He was with Katherine, and they made me swear not to tell anyone about it. Then, Klaus caught Tyler's scent and brought him to me. He compelled him to bite me, and well...he did. Ever since then I've been switching places with Katherine so that nobody would find out. It was Katherine you were with on the night of the full moon. The only reason that you thought I was Tyler, was because he's the one that changed me, therefore we have the same scent. I'm so sorry...I wanted to tell you but...I couldn't."
"Well..." Damon said, clasping his hands together. "That was an awful lot to take in but I guess it's fine because I'm alive. Only, if you bite me again then I will personally rip your heart out."
"Wait, that's it?" I asked Damon. "Normally you would have already eaten her."
"She's my brothers girlfriend and my girlfriends sister." Damon said. "I'm not gonna hurt her."
Thankful, I nodded and then turned back to Elena. "I'm so sorry. About everything. About you, about Stefan."
"I'm sorry too." She whispered. I leaned down and wrapped my arms around her, then let her cry into my shoulder.
"I'm gonna call Jeremy." I said, pulling away. "He'll stay with you tonight."
"Ok." She nodded. "Ok."
Damon stayed with Elena whilst I called Jeremy, and Jeremy drived here as quick as he could. Within 5 minutes, he was rushing through the door.
"Elena?" He cried, running into the front room. Elena smiled as they hugged, and Jeremy knealt down before looking at me and Damon.
"Thanks for calling."
"No problem." I said. "You can stay here for the night. Or as long as you want, we don't mind."
"The owner of this house does." Damon muttered. I elbowed him and he forced a smile. "Stay here as long as you want, children. Nina, back to bed."
"I'll see you guys in the morning." I said. "Night!"
"Night." They called after me and Damon.
Once we got back into the bedroom, Damon pulled his shirt and jeans off so he was just in his boxers. I'd already changed so I just go back into bed.
Damon wrapped his arms around me.
"So..." He said.
"My sister's a werewolf, her boyfriend's a vampire. My boyfriend's a vampire, my friend is a witch and I'm back from the dead."
"Get used to it." Damon murmured.
Apart from the bad parts such as sacrifices and killings, I honestly think I could.
