25. Jealousy?

25. Jealousy

The next day, I woke up with a smile on my face. Damon was at my side, his arms around my waist and my back pressed against his bare chest.

"Are you awake?" I asked, keeping my voice quiet.

"Mmmmm." Damon murmured, squeezing me in tighter. I laughed a little and then placed my hands on his arms. His skin was cold, but I didn't care.

"We should get up, it's almost 3." I said, looking at my clock.

"No." Damon whined, rolling me over so I lay on my stomach. "Try and leave this room and I'll sit on you."

"You're already sitting on me."

"Pfft." Damon scoffed. "Don't act like you don't enjoy it."

"I don't enjoy it though." I lied. "You're too fat for my liking."

"You're awfully cranky today." He muttered.

I giggled and turned round again to lie on my back, which obviously meant that Damon was practically sat on my stomach. I took his hands and smiled.

"That's because it's past 1 o' clock and I have not had my daily intake of coffee." I explained.

"Ah." Damon said, nodding. "Well, I don't like the cranky you so let's go get you some caffeine."

"Yes." I agreed. Suddenly, Damon scooped me up in his arms once again. It was like he just liked to prove that he had amazing vampire strength and could lift me like I was one of the bunnies Stefan would eat.

Damon used his immortal speed, and was sitting me down on the counter in about 3 seconds. In another fraction of a second, he was making coffee.

I laughed.

"What?" He smirked.

"You're making me coffee." I smiled.

"What's wrong wtih that?"

"Nothing." I shrugged. "It's just, when I first met you I thought that you were going to kill me and now you're practically one of my best friends."

"Yup." Damon said, smiling awkwardly? "Best friends..." with that, his voice trailed off and I understood.

That made me think. Yes, i wanted Damon. No, as in I had no idea how to say that to his face. I mean, come on, he might die. Imagine how heartbroken I'd be. That made me think again, as much as everyone seemed to hate Damon, nobody wanted him to die.

Not me.

Not even Stefan.

Damon handed me the coffee and I took a sip before setting it down next to me.

"Damon?" I asked.

"Yes Nina?"

"Do you want to die?"

With a hard face, Damon smirked. "Isn't it a little late for my choice? I mean, I have been dead for the past-"

"I'm serious."

With that, Damon nodded and then made his way over to where I sat on the counter. He reached my face and pressed his forehead agaisnt mine, then took my hands.

He leaned in.

His minty, bourbon scent hitting my cheeks.

I hesitated.

"No." He admitted, his ice blue eyes not leaving mine. "No, no I don't want to die. Why do you ask?"

"Because..." I said. "You never talk...about your feelings, that is. I don't know, you're like a closed book or something. It's like you're too scared to admit what you're thinking. But deep down you want someone to talk to."

"I do want someone to talk to, Nina." He confessed, a sudden sadness in his voice.

I pulled his hand up on to my knee so that I could put my now free hand on the side of his stone cold though velvet soft cheek.

"I'm that someone." I promised. "I'll be there for you no matter what."

Damon laughed. "You know something, Katherine said something a little similar to that yesterday when she epically failed at pretending to be you."

I sighed. "Damon, I am not Katherine."

"I know." He replied. "You are so much more..."

I honestly thought it was time now, for the moment I'd been waiting for ever since I arrived in the Salvatore Boarding House. Even though at first I didn't want to admit it, deep down I always wanted Damon with me.

His lips against my own.

Kissing me.

And I really thought that it was going to happen.

But then the most annoying, cliche thing happened and Elena walked in. And horribly, at that moment I wanted to scream at her. But I held it in because I was a women.

"Interrupting something?" She asked, like she knew exactly what she'd just interrupted.

"Nope." Damon said, his head still against mine.

"Not really." I lied. "We're just drinking coffee."

"Right." Elena said, rolling her eyes. She seemed to be in a bit of a mood. "Lip to lip action is definitley drinking coffee, Nina."

"Our lips are apart and not touching." I pointed out.

"Whatever." She muttered.

"What's wrong with you today?" I asked, pulling my face away from Damon's a little bit so that I could see her...fuming expression.

"Me?" She laughed. "What's wrong with you?!"

"Do not...talk to her like that." Damon growled, suddenly letting go of me and darting across the room to get right up in her face. She backed away a bit and then laughed.

"Is he always this protective of you?" She demanded. "You know Nina, protective guys don't make good boyfriends."

"He's not my boyfriend." I said. "And seriously, what's wrong with you?"

"You!" She shouted. Damon opened his mouth to say something again but Elena slapped him in the face, hard. "Stay away from her."

"Don't slap me barbie." He warned. "And don't talk to your sister like that."

"Where were you yesterday?" Elena asked, ignoring Damon completely. "Do you not know how worried we all were? You're a little bit old to be doing those little stunts in order to get everyone's attention."

"If you would just let me explain, then-"

"No, Nina." She cut me off. "You don't need to explain. You just went off in your own little world as always and didn't give if anyone got worried about you. You just did what you wanted. And you know what, from now on you can do exactly that."

"Is this just because of yesterday?" I asked, getting off the counter. I made my way over to Elena and glared. "Or is it because of what you just walked in on?"

"Maybe both." She shrugged. "What does it matter? Yesterday, you were just attention seeking. And today, you're just proving to Damon how desperate you are."

"I've killed a lot of girls in my life, but I've never hit one." Damon admitted. "But Elena if you say one more thing like that, then I might have to reconsider."

Elena ingnored him and glared at me. "You're pathetic."

"Actually, you are." I snapped. "Since you didn't bother to talk about this rationally, I'll tell you where I was yesterday. When we all went to the grill, I went to the bathroom and was attacked by Stefan and Damon's crazy ex who had gotten out of the tomb. I woke up and she told me it was Klaus that got her out, and Klaus that was in the next room. He came through to talk to me and made it very clear on how he was going to kill me in the sacrifice. But he offered a suggestion. He said that i could save my own life by letting you die in my place. I said no, of course. And then after a little discussion with the very dangerous man who wants to kill me, I came home."

Elena was wide eyed, but hid them quickly. "Well I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. But that's not all I'm mad about."

"What?" I asked. "I just told you how I just saved your life and you want to give me another riot act?"

"Obviously, that's what I meant." She muttered.

"You really are being a bitch today for no reason." I spat. "And you're calling me pathetic? Elena, look at yourself."

Elena, not very happy, decided to slap me across the face.

I gasped and also very cliche of me, I put my hand against my cheek.

"Stefan come get your psyco girlfriend!" Damon shouted, then looked at Elena, grabbed her wrists and shoved his face in hers. "If you ever, ever slap Nina like that again, then I wont hesitate to do the same to you. And I'm a vampire, so it'll hurt."

"Please." Elena scoffed, backing away from Damon just as Stefan enterred looking confused. "You'll be dead in a few weeks anyway."

This time, it was my turn to slap Elena.

"Bitch." She spat. "I was just telling the truth."

"Funny cause that's not the truth." I said. "Damon's going to survive and because of me, you are too."

"Nina why the hell did you just slap her?" Stefan demanded.

"I called you down to take care of your girlfriend, who seconds before you arrived slapped Nina. Hard." Damon explained. Stefan looked at his psyco girlfriend and shook his head.

"Why would you do that?"

"Because she's just a little bitch!" Elena cried.

"Seriously, why the hell are you being like this?!" I shouted. "Cause you walked in on what looked like me and Damon kissing? Ask me, you seem completely jealous."

She launched at me, literally. My back hit hard against the table and she forced herself up in my face. Was that it? Was it all because she was jealous?

"I am not jealous of you and your soon to be dead, wannabe baddass, bourbon drinking vampire. Stefan is so much more he will ever be."

"I like Stefan, and that's why I feel so very sorry for him at the minute." I said. "Because he has to put up with your mood changing, unstable ass."

I pushed at Elena, trying to get her off me. I glared at the brothers. "Aren't you gonna do anything?"

"I'm the one that's unstable?" Elena muttered. "Nina, I'm not the one throwing myself at a man who I will never get."

"Really Elena?" I demanded as Stefan wrapped his hands around her waist, whispering something in her ear. "You sound so jealous right now. Is that what it is? You're jealous?"

"No." She growled.

"Well, you're giving out all the signs that you are."

Then, just as Stefan pulled Elena off me, she shrugged him off and launched forwards again. She quickly reached her arms out and grabbed my wrist, pulled me forwards off the table and then shoved me in the direction of one of the chairs.

I crashed to the floor, the chair toppling down hard on my arm and I gave out a whimper as my head smacked against the wood.

Damon was at my side in seconds, throwing the chair off me and helping me sit up. He looked at Stefan who had a tight grip on Elena.

"If she's not out of this house in 5 seconds." He warned.

Stefan nodded. "I'm so sorry, Nina." Then, they were gone.

Tears welled up in my eyes.

"Give me your arm." Damon said, voice unfocussed but eyes convincing. Unable to move it, Damon took my arm in his hands and soothed his fingers across the newly forming bruise. "Does it hurt?"

"Yeah." I said, biting my lip with pain. "And my head, it hurts a lot."

Damon nodded and placed my hand against my lap. He was quickly at the back of me and running his hands through my hair until eventually, he seemed to find the part that was hurting.

"Thought I smelled blood." He noted.

"Damon, it really hurts." I whimpered.

"Yeah, I know." Damon then placed his hands on my waist and carefully pulled me up. My vision blurred a bit and I staggered into his chest. "I got you." He promised before holding me bridal style. I nodded, resting my head against his body and closing my eyes.

"Where are we going?" I asked.

"Hospital."

"Why not just give me your blood?"

"I'm not taking that risk with you. You've just proved yourself to be very accident prone."

"Mmm." I murmured. I guessed we were outside because of the cold air, and I opened my eyes as Damon opened his car door. He placed me in the passenger seat and carefully strapped my seatbelt on. He quickly ran back to the house and threw some jeans, shirt and jacket on.

20 minutes later, he was helping me stagger into the hospital. Damon carried me for most of the boring talk and eventually, I was taken to a room. Damon placed me down on the white bed and knealt down at my side, taking my good hand.

I didn't even notice there were 2 doctors in the room.

"We'll x-ray her arm after the stitches." One of them said. Wait-stitches? Had I fallen that hard? How could Elena do that to me?

"She's feeling dizzy." Damon added.

"That's probably down to shock." The doctor said. "It's normal. You okay Nina?"

"What?" I yawned, then heard Damon chuckle beside me. He gave my hand a reassuring squeeze and smiled gently at me even though my eyes were partly closed.

"Ow." I cursed, then shifted a little as the Doctor started with the stitches. Damon squeezed my hand once again and carefully whispered.

"It's gonna be ok."

And I believed him.

It didn't take too long for the stitches to be complete, and once they were the doctor gave me something for my head. Then they brought me through to the x-ray room and examined my arm.

Me and Damon waited in the waiting room, and finally the doctor came through.

"It's broken." He informed us. Ah, so my sister had broken my arm? The Doctor brought me to another room where I got to choose a colour for my cast, and I chose light blue because it was like Damon's eyes. They securred the cast on and Damon helped me to my feet.

He helped me back into the car and even slid his leather jacket on me to keep warm.

Once we got back to the house, I lay on the couch with Damon's arms around me.

"I could kill her." He muttered.

"She must have her reasons though." I said. Wait, why was I defending her? Because of her, I'd had to get stitches which hurt, and I'd broken my arm.

"Do you really think she was jealous?" He asked.

"Well every time I mentioned jealousy, she launched at me." I explained.

Damon nodded, and was about to say something but Stefan was suddenly in front of us. I jumped a little and Damon tightened his arms around me.

"Where's Miss Bitch?" Damon asked.

"She was just upset." Stefan explained. "It will never happen again."

"I'm sure it wont." Damon growled. "Don't you know what damage your little Barbie has caused?" Stefan shook his head. "After you left, I had to take Nina to the hospital so that she could get stitches in her head. Oh, and also, her arm is broken."

Stefan knealt down to me. "Are you ok?"

"I'm fine." I shrugged.

"I'm so sorry. I've tried talking to Elena but she's not negotiating."

"It's fine." I said again.

"It sure as hell isn't!" Damon snapped. "Keep that girl out of this house. And don't let see her in a dark alleyway. I'll rip her heart out."

"I'm trying to find out what's wrong with her." Stefan explained. "It must be something because Elena would never do something like that."

"Maybe her true colors are just showing off?" Damon suggested.

Stefan shook his head. "No. It's got to be something more."

"Yeah sure." Damon muttered. "Now, don't you have somewhere to be?"

Stefan nodded. "I'll see you both later. And Nina, I'm so sorry."

When he was gone, I faced Damon. "Thankyou."

"For what?" He asked.

"Being there for me."

He kissed my cheek, making my heart hammer.

"Any time."

A.N) I don't normally advertise on my stories but I really like this story so it's an acception!:)  You guys should read 'I just fell for a badass vampire' by LilHuskie. It's the Salvatore brothers so who can not like that? ><

Also, I hope you guys like this chapter! I tried to make it interesting because I hated my last chapter for some reason. It's an outcast, alone in this world, no one to love it. But it was evil anyway :)

Hope you guys liked this! :) x
