Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Work was busy this week. I hardly had time to lunch. My mom kept calling me, but when I would come home from work I would be too tired to be dealing with her. I know it's not the most classy thing to do, but I knew my mom and I didn't want to yell at her. If I would call her now I knew I would, only because I would be so tired. I would take it out on her and that just wouldn't be fair.
I told myself I would call her tomorrow or Saturday during the day. Maybe I could even drop by before I would go to Claire's party.
My dinner was ready and just when I was settled on the couch my doorbell rang. It was a strange time and I didn't expect anyone. I actually didn't want to get up, but when they kept ringing I got annoyed.
"Yeah, yeah. Geez", I mumbled strolling to the door.
Unlocking it I made sure I opened it just enough to see who was there.
"Mira! Finally!"
"Max?", I exclaimed surprised. "What are you doing here?"
He caught me off guard, he was the last one I would expect here.
"Can I come in?", he asked.
Without saying a word I held the door open for him to enter.
"Why didn't you respond to my text?", he asked as I closed the door.
Crossing my arms I said; "I'm sorry, I didn't really had time."
He frowned his eyebrows.
"Was that it? My food is getting cold", I said nodding my head towards the coffee table.
I didn't like him showing up at my place. Okay, maybe I should have texted him back, but I was so caught up with work I forgot. Now he wanted an explanation and he wasn't satisfied with the answer I just gave him.
"Let's go out together. I'll buy you dinner", he offered.
My phone interrupted our conversation.
"Excuse me."
I searched for my phone and walked away for some privacy.
"Hello?"
"Girl, have you texted him back yet?"
"Hi Jerry. And no", I said peeking my head around the corner to keep an eye on Max. He had taken a seat at my dining table, great.
"Why not?"
"Listen, Jerry this really isn't a great time. Can I call you back later?", I asked taking another peek at Max. He was examining my living room, his eyes wandered around the place.
"Don't tell me he is there?", he exclaimed.
I rolled my eyes, how did he always knew these things.
"Girl, stop rolling your eyes."
"Shut up", I whispered.
"Talk to him. You can do it!"
Then he hung up and left me standing there.
I walked to Max who was now standing in front of my window. I'm sure he wasn't checking out the view, cause I didn't really had a view. His hands were stuffed in the expensive pockets of his perfect fitting suit.
"Max?", I said fidgeting.
He turned around, his blue eyes sparkling as he smiled at me.
"Yes?", he said penetrating my eyes with his.
"I'm sorry but I can't have dinner with you", I told him.
He stepped closer to me and pulled me into his arms.
I could feel his breath on my face, he bended down a bit and his lips were now close to mine. His eyes were locked with mine and the smell of his cologne was working hard to put a spell on me.
"Please, if I did something wrong, tell me", he whispered with a low voice.
"It's not you. It's nothing", I whispered.
"Then why didn't you contact me? Why won't you let me take you out?"
He pulled me closer to him and I wasn't sure what to do with my hands.
Slowly I placed them on his chest, holding on to the border of his suit jacket.
His hands cupped my head as he softly pushed his against mine.
"I was busy", I whispered batting my eyelashes at him.
"You're not busy now. I missed you sweetheart", he said closing his eyes.
He buried his face in my neck, his nose sniffing my hair.
"You always smell so lovely, so sweet."
"Um, thank you", I blushed.
"Max, I think you should go now", I said slowly breaking away from his embrace.
He didn't say anything back. He just walked to the door.
When he opened it, he turned his head to me and asked; "Will I see you this weekend?"
I heaved a sigh and let my eyes meet with my carpet.
"I'm afraid not, I have a birthday party."
I strolled over to him and he closed the door again.
"Tell me, I will see you again soon?" He stroke a strand of my hair.
"I..I..don't..", I stuttered. His eyes were so hypnotizing.
What did he do to me, this was so confusing to me.
Or was it me that was confusing myself?
Before I even realized it, his lips were on mine, gently pressing against them, asking for entry.
While kissing we switched positions. He lifted me up, I wrapped my legs around his waist leaning my back against the door.
Our kiss got more and more intense and my hands ran up and down his neck. His lips moved from my lips to my cheek, down to my neck. A soft moan escaped my lips. His tongue circled up and down my neck making me moan more.
"Mira..", he whispered in my ear. "You drive me crazy."
"Max..."I sighed.
He stopped and looked into my eyes. "Now I know you missed me too", he whispered catching his breath.
"I did", I said looking at his lips. "I did." I put my lips on his again and we got back to our passionate making out session.
His lips caressed my neck and I wanted him to go on. I didn't want him to stop now. My body was longing for him and he knew it. I could feel he longed for me too. He carried me to the couch without stop kissing me for one second. He laid me down and his hand brushed my hair to the back.
"You're so beautiful, so sweet", he whispered not taking his eyes off me.
"Kiss me Max", I breathed.
I closed my eyes and let his magic work on me. My hands grabbed his suit jacket and took it off. He looked so fine. I started to unbutton his grey blouse. His chest showed, going up and down fast while his breath was increasing.
As he kissed my neck I let my tongue roll down his neck, diverging with my lips.
"Damn Mira", he groaned.
I could feel him getting more excited with every kiss we shared.
"Take off your shirt", I demanded.
He did as I said and threw his shirt on the floor.
My hands started to caress his body, as he kissed my collarbone I dug my nails into his back.
Suddenly he stopped just when he wanted to take my top off.
"What's wrong?", I asked.
"Scoop over", he said.
I did what he asked and laid my head against his chest as his back was placed against the back of my couch.
"Did I do something wrong?", I asked a little insecure.
His hand was stroking my hair.
"No, not at all baby", he said looking at me.
I looked up at him; "Then why did you stop?"
"Because I don't want you to do anything you will regret", he said.
"Why would I regret this?", I asked frowning my eyebrows.
"Let's not rush things. Maybe we should go on a few more dates before taking the next step."
In the back of my mind I knew he was right. I just didn't want to admit it.
"Not that I don't want to take that next step with you", he winked.
I slapped his chest as I let out a chuckle.
"Maybe you're right", I sighed.
"So, you said you had a birthday party this weekend. Who's is it?"
"It's from my best friend, Claire", I said.
My fingers were drawing invisible doodles on his chest.
The moment her name rolled out of my mouth, I regretted it. I totally forgot that she is his ex.
My eyes shot up to him, to see his reaction to her name.
He sat up straight and so did I. His hand rubbed his two-day beard.
"Claire huh?"
We both stayed silent after his words. I mentally slapped my forehead for mentioning her name. Why did I have to be so stupid? Why didn't I just say 'a friend'. No, I had to ruin the moment and say the name of his ex.
He never mentioned her, so maybe I could play the stupid card.
"Do you know her?", my eyes looked as innocent as they could.
He slowly craned his head my way.
"She um..", he rubbed the back of his neck, "she's my ex."
Okay, now I was sure. She was his ex, no doubt about that.
"I didn't know you guys were friends. I never saw you with her when I was with her", he said.
"Well I don't know her that long. I just moved here a few years ago", I told him.
He nodded his head in understanding.
"How long did you guys go out?", I bluntly asked.
"Not that long. It's not important okay? You are the one that is", he said flashing a smile.I curled up to him. He was right, she wasn't important and I didn't want to talk about her.
"You know, it's getting late", I said. "And I still haven't ate anything."
My stomach growled to confirm my words.
"You want to grab a late night snack?", he smiled.
"Yes please!", I said picking up my plate. "I think this has gone cold now, so you owe me food!" I laughed and walked away to put my plate in the sink.
When I came back he was buttoning his shirt.
"Here, let me do that", I said positioning myself in front of him. My hands proficiently closed up his shirt. "I mean it's my fault it came off", I winked as I closed the last button.
He kissed me and then said; "I didn't mind that at all my love."
"Come on, if it were up to you, you'd let me starve to death!", I chuckled.
It was Saturday and I was so glad to welcome the weekend. Clair's party was tonight but I didn't feel like going anymore. I actually wanted to spend my whole weekend with Max. I couldn't stop thinking about him after our little encounter last Thursday.
He had showed me it didn't matter to him that I had that emotional outburst. Maybe he'd forgotten about it. He never mentioned it after we came back anyway. I didn't had the guts to talk about it with him. I was too ashamed and maybe it would only set up a trigger.
Now there was this issue with what to wear to the party. I had no idea what to do. I decided to call Jerry and ask him to help me out. He loved shopping and he loved giving me advice on clothes.
"He girl! I'm glad you called me!", he said when he arrived at my place.
I hugged him. "Who else could help me better than you!"
We immediately went to my bedroom to check out my wardrobe.
He whistled when I opened my closet. "Have you bought that many new things?"
I blushed and nodded my head, knowing I was guilty of shoppig a bit too much sometimes.
He bursted out laughing. "Oh you poor thing! You should have seen your face!"
"Shut up!" I threw one of the pillows on my bed to him.
He went to my dresses section and roamed about and picked two dresses.
He held them in front of his chest; "What about these?"
"I like the right one", I said laying down on my bed.
It was a baby bleu dress, with lace on the body.
"Maybe a little to chique for a birthday party", Jerry said looking at the dress.
"Do I need to remind you to Claire's parents?"
He let out a chuckle and re-evaluated the dress.
"Let's put it on hold. Maybe", he snooped through my other sections, "this is something you look for."
He put up a navy blue skirt with a white button down.
"Isn't that a little bit to ordinary?", I frowned my eyebrows at him.
"You know what we should do?", his hazel brown eyes started to sparkle and he flashed is beautiful white teeth.
"SHOPPING!", we exclaimed in unison. Then we bursted out laughing.
We strolled in and out shop after shop. We did bought some things, but not the dress. After a few hours we decided to sit down at a lunchroom. While waiting for our food we discussed the different outfits we saw.
"Speaking of being well dressed, how is Mr. Gentleman doing? Have you spoken to him yet?"
I waited for the waitress to put down our drinks before answering him.
"He came by, last Thursday evening", I answered.
"And you wait this long to tell me?!", he exclaimed.
"Sorry, I've had a lot on my mind, but I was going to tell you!"
He pressed his lips with a half smile, glancing at me sideways.
I laughed at his expression and started to tell him everything that happened.
"Again he acted like the perfect gentleman."
I let out a chuckle; "Almost perfect."
He rolled his eyes and took the last bite of his sandwich.
"So what's the plan? Are you going to see him this weekend?"
"I don't know. I wish I was, but I have that party tonight and it will get late, so I will be sleeping in tomorrow", I answered. "Also, I actually need to go to my parents. I haven't talked to them for a while."
"You still haven't spoken to them after that fight?", he asked surprised. "Mira!"
"Yes I know", I said feeling guilty. "It's just, you know how my mom is.."
"Come on, she doesn't mean what she's says. She just has a poor way of saying things", he tried to defend her.
"I know, I know but everytime I go over there it's the same thing. I don't want to ruin my mood, besides I'd rather spent my time with Max", I wiggled my eyebrows saying his name.
All of a sudden he had this questionable look on his face while looking outside the window.
Then he turned his head towards me. "Why don't you take him with you to the party?"
I bended my head down and faced the table. My eyes wandered around, ending up reading the back of the salt can. My fingers grabbed it and started playing with it.
"Hello?", he waved his hands in front of my face.
I lifted my head up and stopped playing around with the salt.
"Claire is his ex."
His mouth dropped and he almost knocked over his coffee.
"Did he tell him yourself or did you had to find out on your own?", he asked.
"Claire told me", I almost whispered.
"He didn't even tell you himself?", he frowned his eyebrows.
"No, no it's not like that. He didn't know we are friends and when I asked him about it he was honest. But he didn't seem to want to talk about it", I said concentrating on the salt again.
"Hmmm, I see why you don't want to take him to that party", he grabbed my arm and pinched it softly, "also if she was that great she wouldn't be his ex."
"I know, but you know me; blond friends around my boyfriends or potential boyfriends, that usually doesn't work out too well for me."
"Oh honey", he gave me a small smile, "she's got nothing on you!"
I twirled my glass around, not taking my eyes off of it.
"Come on! She's beautiful and tall. Every guy I have ever spoken to wants her."
"Stop that! You are beautiful too! Look at you, your beautiful brown eyes, your perfect complexion, your long black hair. You don't have anything to be insecure about!", he said encouraging.
"Then why do all the guys I meet only want me for my body?"
I felt tears welling up in my eyes, which I tried hard to hide from him by blinking them away.
He gave me a sad look. "Girl, you are just looking for the wrong guys."
"It has never been any other way. Either the guy I like would only be interested in my friend or they only want my body."
"You are not that high school girl anymore. You're an adult now and those guys were just stupid and blind not to see how amazing you are!", he said trying to make me feel better. "And the guys who just want to sleep with you are assholes! Baby girl, you deserve so much better!"
"I'm sure Max is no different, he just has a little more patience", I said indifferent.
He gave me a look and lifted his eyebrow.
"Do you really think that? If he wanted into your panties he would have tried last weekend. Or last Thursday. Wasn't he the one to stop before things got out of hand?"
I shrugged and focused my eyes on the window and the people walking by.
"I just can't believe a man like him would be really interested in me. I mean, if I look at his ex, I'm not even his type. I'm not white, I'm not blond, I'm not tall and I don't have big boobs", I sighed giving my chest a sad look.
"Maybe he is tired of dating tall blond bimbo's", he cupped his hands in front of his chest looking like they were huge boobs.
I laughed at his silly behavior.
"But seriously, give Max a chance", he said.
"Come on, you don't even know him. Why are you defending him so badly?", I asked.
"Because I'm convinced he can be the one for you. I don't believe he is the player the media is trying to portray and I don't believe he is playing a game with you. No, I don't know him but my gut feeling is telling me he's not that bad!"
"Your gutfeeling?", I said with a chuckle. "Are you serious?"
He stuck out his tongue while trowing a napkin at me.
"Anyway, let's go! I still haven't found the right outfit for tonight", I said.
We waved at a waitress to get our bill.
We searched the whole afternoon for the perfect outfit but we didn't succeed. I was a bit disappointed but when Jerry said he would stay to fix my hair and make-up I felt a bit better. I knew he would do a better job at that then I would myself. Eddie came over too and brought some Chinese food.
While Jerry was busy getting everything ready to do my hair and make-up, Eddie cleaned up the mess we made while eating. Then he came over to my bedroom and sat down on my bed. I sat in the chair in front of my dresser, which had a huge mirror above and Jerry had placed all my make-up and hair stuff on it to make sure he had everything he needed.
"Almost ready."
"He what are you doing?"
"Like I would let you see my creation before you have your dress on!", he overdramatically waved his hands in the air.
Then he put a towel over my mirror.
"Great, now I have to stare at a towel", I said crossing my arms.
"Oh hush girl!"
He started working his magic on me and it seemed like he took forever. In the meanwhile Eddie got bored and had grabbed some magazines from my living room. He scanned them and read the most ridicoulus things he'd saw out loud. It made us laugh a couple of times. Jerry would get mad as I wouldn't hold my head still, which made us laugh again.
"So, I think you're all done now!"
He stepped away from me and watched me from a few different angles.
"Oh wait, just.." He sprayed some hairspray which made me cough. "All done! Tadaaaa!"
He spinned me around and presented me like I was some kind of painting he just finished.
"Oh my God, Mira!", Eddie put his hands in front of his mouth. "You look stunning!"
"Wait until she has her dress on!", Jerry exclaimed.
"We'll leave you now and trust you to not rip that towel away from there", Jerry said pointing at me.
"Relax I won't", I said with a cheeky grin.
"Mira", he said dragging out my name.
"I swear I won't! Now leave you two!"
For a moment I felt the urge to take the towel away, but then I realized Jerry would be very disappointed if I would.
I grabbed my dress from the closet and took it off the clothes hanger. I zipped it open and removed my bathrobe.
Carefully I stepped into it. I couldn't finish the last part of my zipper so one of them would have to help me.
I heaved a big sigh and then I called them in .
Eddie started to whistle and Jerry put his hands in front of his mouth.
"Mira, you look absolutely stunning!"
"Thank you Eddie!", I said. I blew him a handkiss.
"I think I'm going to call Max. He has to see you like this, girl!"
"Jerry no!"
He started laughing and put his phone away.
"Just kidding! But you look so beautiful. If I wasn't gay, I would totally hit on you!"
"Me too!", Eddie exclaimed.
"Well, let me see myself!"
"Oh! Of course, sorry!"
Jerry walked to the dressor and removed the towel. I turned around and glanced at myself as Eddie zipped me up. His head appeard next to me.
"Look how beautiful you are", he whispered.
He had put up my hair and put these tiny chrystals in them. On the front two strands of hair on each side of my face hung loose.
He gave me smokey eyes, with silver and black to make it look a little dramatic. My lips had a soft shine through gloss and he had put just enough blush on my cheeks to make it same natural.
I had chosen the blue dress with the heartshaped lace body. The bodem part of the dress was tule, which fell just above my knees.
I chose my white stiletto's to wear, even though I knew it would cost me a lot of pain at the end of the night.
I walked over to Jerry, "Thank you so much!", and gave him a hug.
"You too Eddie, for you sweet words!", I said hugging him too.
"You only need this", Jerry sprayed some parfum around me, "and now you're good to go!"
I grabbed my purse and we strolled to the living room. Before they left I gave them both another hug. After they left I called myself a cab and went downstairs to wait.
