2 - Spare Room
Mira-Jane's POV
I was making my way from the Pregrande Kingdom back to Fiore. It had just been my holiday break from work so I decided to visit my friend who was working there due to her position in her job. She worked with animals and travelled around to visit the endangered species.
On my way back, I decided to take a different path from the one I usually took because I didn't want to be recognised by some weird guys again. I used to model for a magazine called 'Sorcerer Weekly' often. but I stopped when I realised how badly it was affecting my life. Sure I was paid well, but my other job paid well too and the modelling job made my private life non-existant.
Whilst I was travelling down the secluded road, I noticed a collapsed guy at the side who had blood dripping from his nose and bruises which looked like they had been caused by magic. Stopping the horses, I hopped out from the carriage and knelt down next to him.
"Poor thing." I said, I called to the driver to help me take the man into the carriage. He nodded and helped me. "What magic do you think caused this?"
"I am unsure Miss Strauss."
"Hmm, thank you anyway sir."
The rest of the journey seemed shorter than I thought. By the time we'd reached Magnolia I had cleaned the man's face and covered it in bandages. Whatever magic it was, it caused injuries on the outside and the inside. There were parts of his skin which seemed like they'd been burnt, but when I ran my fingers along the marks, I felt nothing odd. Bandages were the only things I thought could help at that point in time.
"We've reached Magnolia Miss Strauss."
I thanked the driver and paid him with a generous tip.
"Thank you Miss Strauss, have a nice day now."
My apartment was quite big, it had two spare bedrooms and two bathrooms both with large bath tubs and showers. I decided to take the injured man into the larger spare bedroom which was closest to the bathroom.
"I'll be back okay?" I said to the unconscious man. "I'll bring some medicine and some food for you to have."
No response.
"Heh, I guess I shouldn't expect a response from an injured guy." I smiled and grabbed my bag, checking that I had some money with me. "I'm off!"
----------------------------------------------
The streets of Magnolia were as busy as usual, the market stalls were buzzing with life and people were running around. I decided to drop in on Fairy Tail before I went and bought medicine.
"Hello? Anyone here?" I happily called into the guildhall. Lots of people yelled back to me to say that they were there, and I just laughed.
"Hey Mira-Jane," Kinana said. "You're back earlier than we expected. How was it?"
"It was amazing, by the way do you know what sort of magic causes injuries which harm the outside and the inside?"
Kinana gave me a blank look. "N-No, Mira... I hardly know any magic."
"Never mind then, I'll ask Levy."
"Why're you so interested?"
"I came across an injured guy on the way home, I want to make sure that he gets better."
"Because of what Master did for you?"
"Yeah, I'd like to pass on the favour to someone." I smiled.
Kinana nodded and called out for Levy to approach the bar. Levy made her way towards us and grinned when she saw me.
"Mira-Jane! You're back early, what do you need?"
"Well Levy, I need to know what type of magic causes injuries on the inside and the outside?"
She looked up and tapped her foot. "Hmmm. I'll research it for you okay? If you need medicine for it then I suggest buying..." Levy then gave me a long list of medicines to buy. "If they don't work, then just use this." She handed me a small bottle of a light blue liquid.
"What is this?" I asked her, stirring the bottle.
"It's this elixir I got from my last mission. The guy who gave it to me said that it's meant to heal any sickness. But please only use it if nothing else works, it's really rare."
"Okay Levy, thank you for letting me have it for now. If I do use it, I'll only use a drop."
"Thank you Mira." Levy smiled and walked off. I looked closely at the purple liquid, there were light sparkles which made it seem pretty.
"So, this injured guy..." Kinana rested her chin on her hands and placed her elbows on the counter. "Do you know who he is?"
"No, but I'll ask him when he wakes up."
She raised one of her eyebrows. "Mira, is he hot?"
"His temperature wasn't through the roof Kinana, but if you mean that kind of hot..." I giggled. "Yes, he's extremely hot." With that, I left the guildhall in search of the medicines Levy had written down for me.
----------------------------------------------
About two hours later, I returned to my home to find my younger sister smirking and leaning against the doorframe of the kitchen.
"Who's the guy Mira?"
"You've seen him?"
"Yup!" She skipped over to me and gave me the look.
What look?
The look where your sister thinks you like the guy so he's here for "that".
"I found him on the way home, he is seriously injured and I've decided to do the same thing Makarov did for us." Placing the bag of medicine on the table in the kitchen, I spun around and showed Lisanna the elixir Levy had given me. "Levy said that if nothing else works, then I can use this."
Lisanna came close to me and inspected the small bottle, she gasped when she realised what it was.
"She gave you elixir?!"
"Only if nothing else works, but I hope something else will work; she said she got it from her last mission."
"She was job hunting to find that elixir, word on the street is that a Dragon Slayer made it." She raised one of her snow white eyebrows.
"A Dragon Slayer made it?!"
"Shh! You didn't hear it from me."
"Who did I hear it from then?"
"From Lucy who heard it from Loke, who claims to have heard it from Aquarius when she was summoned by Lucy when they were in Novella Town when Aquarius overheard two hooded figures talking and exchanging things." Finally she took a deep breath and burst into a coughing fit. "Dang that was hard to say."
"Did they say what type of Dragon Slayer made it?" I asked curiously.
"I have no idea, but apparently they're really powerful. Elixir can heal almost any wound."
"Almost?"
"I mean it can't heal death or a broken heart, but it can heal injuries and illnesses."
"Woah, that's incredible." Suddenly, I heard coughing emit from the room where the man was. I rushed into his room and saw him sitting up and furiously coughing into his hands. "Calm down sir! Lisanna, get some water!"
"On it sis."
The man's coughs became chronic, his face was scrunched up and he seemed to be in a lot of pain. Lisanna rushed in with a glass of water and pushed it into his hands. He chugged it down within seconds and took a deep breath when he finished.
"Who're you...?" He asked, his voice sounding hoarse. "Where am I..."
"My name is Mira-Jane, that's Lisanna. You're in my apartment."
After placing the empty glass on the bedside table, he looked around the room. "Are we still in Oak Town?"
"No, we're far from there. We're in Magnolia." I told him, this caused his eyes to widen and for him to be attacked by another coughing fit.
"Mira-nee, pass me his glass!"
I reached for the glass but the man grabbed my wrist and shook his head. He didn't want any more water.
"W-What do you need then?" I asked.
"We're in Magnolia..."
"Yes..."
"... Shit." He slapped his hand over his eyes then fell back onto the bed, writhing in pain. "Damn those two!"
"What happened to you?!"
"Two bastards that's what."
The apartment door burst open and I heard heavy footsteps approaching the spare bedroom. It didn't take long for me to realize that it was Elfman, probably coming back from his voluntary grocery run.
He usually went out shopping for me since the only place I ever went to was to Fairy Tail or to my "small" modelling job, which of course wasn't small but I didn't go out much. Unless it was something major like a wedding or a birthday party then it wasn't important enough for me.
"Sis! I've got your shopping!" Elfman froze when he saw the man in the bed, his left eye twitched slightly. "...There's a guy in your bed..."
"Elfman, this is the spare bedroom." I pointed out.
"This is a spare room?!" The guy exclaimed, sounding genuinely shocked.
"Yes, my apartment is quite big."
"...There's a guy in my sister's room, and I don't know him."
"Elfman! We need to get going!" I heard Evergreen's voice call out.
"Right, see you sis, other sis." Elfman stumbled over his words after hearing Ever's voice. They'd just recently started seeing each other, but of course they weren't 'dating' yet because that wasn't what they were doing.
Their logic surprised me.
"I'll leave now too sis. I did promise Cana that I'd go with her to her drinking contest." Lisanna added, following after Elfman. "Bye!"
"Bye Lisanna, have fun."
"I'll get drunk and ask you to come get me!" She called out, I burst into a fit of giggles then stopped when the guy groaned.
"Sorry."
"Don't worry Mira-Jane." His voice didn't sound as pained as before, but it still sounded bad.
"Oh, that reminds me. How could I be so dumb?" I laughed then turned to the man. "What's your name?"
"... I-I can't remember."
"Huh? But you know where your home is right?"
"What?"
"You said 'are we still in Oak Town', and you mentioned two people who must've done this to you."
"I guess..."
His eyes kept darting around the room as if he was trying to come up with an answer.
"If you're not comfortable with telling me, then I'll just call you Dreyar. It's the name of my guilds master and he's so kind."
He flinched at the mention of the guild master's name.
"I'd rather you didn't, I've had bad experiences with someone by the name of Dreyar..."
"Makarov Dreyar?"
He took a deep breath then hissed. "Do you have any medicine? My head feels like it's about to split open any second now."
Hurrying to my feet, I rushed out of the room and grabbed the bag of medicine from the kitchen table. I also decided to grab the newspaper, for the man to read. Once I was back in the spare room, I took out some pills and read their labels. I didn't fully understand what they said, but the small writing explained what it helped and treated.
"I haven't used medicine like that for years."
"Why's that?" I asked, continuing to rummage through the bag.
"A friend of mine has magic which can heal. They often help me out whenever I need them."
"Will you tell me their name?"
"No."
"You're mean."
"That's life for you."
"Not always."
"Can I have some medicine now?"
"Here," I gave him a vial of blue liquid which was the best painkiller in the bag. "Drink some, not all."
"This isn't yours then?"
"No, it's a friends."
"What're they called?"
"I'm not telling you."
"Heh, wow. Using my own words against me."
"I don't think you said that."
"I said it at one point in my life."
"That doesn't count."
He sniffed the liquid and his eyes widened. "You say you got this from a friend?"
"Yes, that's right."
"Where did she get it?"
"Well, in exchange for this information..." I grinned. "I'll be needing some information too."
He snarled and winced. "I'll have some of this first." Whilst he was gulping down part of the liquid, I noticed that the bruises and cuts on his body seemed to disappear.
"Y-Your wounds!"
He finished with the medicine and handed it back to me.
...
...
There was a single drop left.
"You hardly left any!" I exclaimed.
"That stuff can still heal any wound."
"Oh yeah? Why didn't you use a drop then?!"
"Because that magic hurt like a bitch."
"Swear."
"Huh?"
"If you stay in my house, you can't swear unless you have permission." Crossing my arms, I glared at the man. "You may be sore still from your injuries but that doesn't mean that I'll let you get away with swearing."
"Sorry ma'am." He rolled his eyes.
"Anyway. My friend got this elixir as a reward from a job request, she's been looking for it for a while now. Apparently it was made by a Dragon Slayer."
"Really now? Do you know what type?"
"Type?"
"Yeah, like you've got Cobra the Poison Dragon Slayer..." He paused and frowned. "Was he caught?"
"Cobra?" I checked the newspaper on the dresser which I brought in with the medicine. "Yeah, it's the front page news."
He sighed and looked at the ceiling.
"Oh, maybe I can find out what Dragon Slayer made this elixir!" Quickly I opened the newspaper and flipped through towards the back.
"H-How would you know?!"
"Well, they have almost all of the known Dragon Slayers in here!" Once I had gotten to the page I smiled. "Here! It says that 'Wendy Marvell' is thought to be an expert in healing... Do you think she's the one who made it?" I asked him.
He seemed to be sweating and looked away. "Put the newspaper down, too much of it will rot your brains you know."
"Mmm. Most of the things in here are quite bad, like the supposed scandal between- never mind." I shook my head.
"Scandal? Between who?" The man seemed suddenly interested.
"Never you mind. But if you do want to know, I'll get you the magazine which is closer to the truth." He nodded and I left the room to fetch the magazine.
When I came back, I was shocked.
I hid behind the door before he could see me and I watched him through the crack in the doorframe.
At the ends of his fingertips were little volts of electricity. I had never seen magic like it before, but it looked so beautiful. He smiled as the small volts began to create images, one looked like a dragon.
"Better make sure..." he trailed off as he spoke. Inching closer and desperate to know what he was about to say, I had no idea that I was about to fall down and into the doorway.
I didn't land as gracefully as I had hoped.
"Are you alright down there?" He asked.
"Perfect." I patted my dress down as I walked back to my seat. "Here's your magazine."
"Thanks."
"By the way, what's your name?"
"I'll be gone in the morning."
"No you won't! You're helping me out mister!"
"Huh? With what?"
Pointing a finger at him, I furrowed my eyebrows. "You drank most of my friend's elixir which they worked so hard to get!"
"I'm sorry, but that drop will be good enough!"
"Maybe for you. But Mr Magic Man! I promised her that if I did use any, it would be a small amount! So, you're going to help me get more."
"Oh yeah? How do you plan on getting more?"
"Simple, by finding Wendy Marvell."
