Chapter 5: Maybe I like him
Hey guys! Back with a brand new chapter. Make of the title what you will, hehe. Don't have much to say at this point so enjoy!
Nick and I were still in the living room, listening to the whole argument. It had become extremely loud, to the point I'm sure the neighbours could hear. The walls weren't exactly sound proof.
"That's it! I'm done!"
I heard a door slam and the thud of my dad's feet coming down the stairs. He walked past the living room, not even noticing Nick and I were there, grabbed his keys and ran off. A few seconds later we heard the sound of the car starting and the tires screeching across the pavement.
"Psst. Nick let's get out of here before mom comes down. It would just worry her to hear that we heard that."
He silently nodded and we walked into the kitchen and went out the back. Nick still looked a little down, so I tried to cheer him up. "Hey, what say we go out for ice-cream? Like old times."
"I'm not eight anymore Alex. You can't solve things with ice-cream."
I only raised my eyebrow at him, grinning like a madman. He looked at me and sighed, his face breaking into a smile. "All right, let's go."
Since I didn't have a car, we walked over to the ice-cream place nearby that we always used to go to. Everytime our parents weren't home and neither of us were busy, we used to go out for ice-cream. It's a shame that we hadn't gone in so long. We've been wrapped up in all our own stuff lately.
When we reached, I ordered mint chocolate chip and Nick ordered the oreo one. It was nearly lunch time, but we had it anyway. So many people keep asking me why I eat mint chocolate chip and it tastes like toothpaste but it really doesn't. Just because they happen to put mint in toothpaste doesn't mean everything with mint in it can be considered godamn toothpaste. It tastes good, okay? Chocolate and mint go good together, stupid brother.
"I still don't get why you like that stuff."
"It tastes good Nick. Shut up and eat your ice-cream."
He smiled and rolled his eyes, digging into his ice-cream cone. It was nice spending time with him again. We laughed and talked about our lives. That was until he stole a bite of my ice-cream.
"You twit! I thought you don't like this flavour?!"
"That was till I tasted it. It's good!"
I chased him right out of the shop, while he ran away shrieking, yelling that I was trying to kidnap him. Being at athlete, I caught up with him easily and snagged a bite of his ice-cream. Then I let him go.
"Jeez sis. It's just ice-cream."
"It's good ice-cream."
We walked back to the house eating, until my phone buzzed with a text from Megan.
Hey, the guys randomly showed up at my house. Cm over.
I turned to face Nick. "Hey, Megan just asked me to come over. You okay going home on your own?"
He glared at me. "I'm fifteen Alex. I'm capable of walking."
"Okay, dumbass. See you later."
I turned back and walked in the direction of Megan's house. It wasn't very far; it was just one block away from my house. When I reached, I saw the door was already open so I just walked right on in. Then I was greeted by more screaming.
"It's mine!"
"I saw it first douchebag!"
"Can you two calm the hell down? It's just a cookie for god's sake."
I laughed and shook my head, walking into the kitchen and seeing Ezra and Tyler playing tug of war over a chocolate chip cookie, while Megan tried to talk some sense into them.
"Guys, just break it in half. Simple." I told them. They all turned to face me in surprise. "Oh, hey Alex." Ezra waved at me. Tyler saw the opportunity and snatched the cookie, stuffing the whole thing in his mouth at once.
"What the hell?!"
Tyler looked at him smugly, happily chewing the cookie. "How dith ith go ath thawns?" He asked me.
"Finish chewing and then talk you animal."
"How did it go at Shawn's?"
"Terrible."
"Cool. Let's play ps5!"
With that, he and Ezra ran into the living room to get the good controller. I rolled my eyes and turned towards Megan. "Those two are a real pain in the ass, aren't they?"
"No shit. But I love em. Tyler's well... Tyler and Ezra's a nice guy. Come on, let's go play."
She walked into the living room and I internally groaned. Ezra nice guy? Really? God can't those two just get together already?
I played a match against Ezra and he totally crushed me. The guy was an all-round gamer. Tyler and I haven't been able to beat him till date, it's crazy. After that, he and Megan played a match and she won. I couldn't freaking believe it. She was the worst gamer out of all of us. Then I turned to face Tyler and the look on his face told it all.
Wow, seriously Ezra? You let her win on purpose? The dude is whipped.
It went on like that for a while and each time Megan won. Ezra would just shyly giggle and go- "Natural talent." I almost groaned out loud. This was getting stupid.
"Hey! Bud, how about I play with you now?" Tyler asked loudly, snatching the controller from Megan. The two of them started to play and I dragged Megan to the side.
"Meg, are you blind?"
She looked at me in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"Ezra! You know he's a gamer and he's been letting you win every single time! Not to mention, he blushes and giggles everytime you even look at him!"
"What? Nah, that's just Ezra being nice."
Lord, kill me now.
"Dude! He is crushing on you big time! He has been all godamn year!"
Now Megan looked a little hesitant, like she was deciding whether or not she should believe me. "No way he has a crush on me."
"Oh my god, he does, just accept it already. Question is, are you going to do anything about it? Tyler and I have been watching it all year and it's driving us crazy."
She laughed and waved her hand at me. "Pfft. Please, me and Ezra? Ha, that's funny. Pfft, as if."
Wow, real convincing Megan.
"You are a complete idiot you know that?"
She just laughed it off and walked back to the living room. Ezra immediately jumped up and offered her the controller, not even the slightest bit subtle. I've got to get those two together.
We played for a little while longer and then Megan and I went back to my house to do some homework and eat lunch. As always, we ended up wasting tons of time, but we got it done in the end. By the time we went back downstairs, it was around five in the evening. Oh, damn.
"Hey sweetie, help yourself to some cookies, I made a fresh batch today." My mom told Meg, who happily obliged and started munching it down. "Thanks Mrs. Peirce. These cookies are amazing."
"Thanks, dear. What are you girls up to?"
"Well, we finished our homework so probably just the mall or something."
"Have fun!"
Megan and I got into her car, driving off to the mall. "Your mom is so sweet. I wish my mom was half as nice."
I scoffed. "She's only like that around my friends. Otherwise, she's crazy."
"I highly doubt that."
Megan started to drive off in the other direction and I was bewildered. "Uh, Meg you're going the wrong way."
She smirked. "No, we're not." I looked at her in annoyance when it finally dawned on me. "Oh no, where are you taking me Meg?"
"Relax, it's nothing like that. We're just going to an empty road near the woods."
"For what? To murder me?"
"Nope. I'm going to teach you how to drive!"
"Oh. Okay then, why not."
She pulled over and we switched seats. Let me tell you that after that, the next ten minutes were a huge mess.
"Lighter on the gas Alex!"
"I am being light!
"No, you're not!"
I pressed on the brakes a little too hard and the car came to a screeching halt. Megan let out a breath, clutching her heart like I'd just tried to kill her. Although, technically I had.
"I regret using my car for this." She muttered under her breath. "Aw, come on it wasn't so bad Meg."
"It was crazy! I thought I was going to die."
We tried it again and this time it came a little easier to me. "That's it Alex, light on the gas..."
I felt like I kind of got the hang of it by then, but it started to get dark so Megan got back in the driver's seat and we drove back home.
Neither of my parents were at home, so I decided to just make some frozen chicken nuggets and watch Netflix. It took me about five minutes to make, it was pretty much just frying stuff anyway. I got some dip and went back up to my room, but I wasn't looking where I was going and accidentally entered Nick's room instead. I almost dropped my nuggets at the sight I saw.
"WHAT THE FUCK NICK?!"
He was on his bed with some girl, shirtless with hickeys all over his neck. The girl luckily wasn't naked, but she was grinding against him with her back to me. She quickly hid under the covers, her face red. Nick hastily stood up and pulled his shirt back on. His pants were also weirdly tight, something I ABSOLUTELY DID NOT WANT TO SEE.
"Alex! Why the hell would you walk into my room?!"
"I walked in by accident! What the hell do you think you're doing?"
He walked out of his room and closed the door behind him, standing next to me in the hallway with his arms crossed. "I think it was pretty clear what I was doing."
"Gross Nick! At least don't do that with your family around."
"No one was at home! I didn't think you'd come home at this time."
"Well, I did! And aren't you a little young to be doing that?"
"I'm fifteen! Moms already had the talk with me I'm good."
"Gross! Gross! Gross!"
Nick rolled his eyes at me and huffed. "What? It's not like you never did it when you were my age."
I stared at him, my face red. I had never actually done it, and at the moment I wasn't interested either. Watching drunk people hook up at parties, waking up the next morning and regretting it was enough discouragement for me.
"Well, I uh..."
Nick's eyes widened when he realised why I was stumbling. Then he burst out laughing.
"Oh my god! You've never done it! Holy shit, I'm dying. I can't believe I'm going to have sex before my seventeen-year-old sister."
"Jeez Nick! Say it louder, would you? And you aren't doing anything either, door stays open."
He grumbled and went back to his room, still laughing a little. I turned around and went to my room, appetite now completely ruined. Stupid Nick. It's too damn weird seeing him like that. He's always been my annoying little brother and now he has hormones. Eugh.
I plopped down on my bed, opening up my laptop and watching Netflix peacefully. I ended up watching for the next hour, until my mom came home and called us for dinner. I think it was the most awkward I'd ever felt, Nick shifting in his seat and widening his eyes at me, begging me not to tell her. As if I would. It's scarred me enough.
I went back to my room and resumed watching until it was time to go to bed. I was about to put my phone on the night stand when it suddenly buzzed with a text from Megan.
Ok, maybe I like him.
Freaking finally.
