Chapter 8

Tonight is the sleepover. I just have to get through today. I walk downstairs, and see that Moriah made cinnamon rolls. I snag one, make a cup of hot chocolate, and sit down to eat.

"Are you excited to have your friends over?" She asks. "I'm so psyched! I can't wait for you to meet them!" I exclaim. She laughs, "I'll pick you girls up at school, then I'm going to Courtney's for the night. Luke will be over with the boys. My only prayer is that the house is still in one piece when I get back."

"Don't worry, love," Joel says, kissing Moriah's forehead, "I won't attempt to cook anything." I giggle, "How excited are you, Joely-o?" He squints, "Joely-o? Where did that come from?" I tap my head, "It came from my brain."

I finish eating, and getting ready. After telling Moriah good-bye, and grabbing my backpack and lunch, I'm in the car with Joel.

"Have a good day, love," Joel says hugging me. I smile, "I will. See you tonight, dude." He nods, "Be good!" I get out of the car and wave, "I will. Bye Joel, thanks again."

I walk into school, and go to my locker. My three friends are waiting there for me. "We all brought our stuff!" Wren exclaims. "Do you know anything we're gonna do?" Eden asks. I shrug, "Moriah is gonna pick us up, but then she has a girl's night with Courtney. Luke is coming over with the kids. I'm not quite sure, but we'll think of something."

Lucy smiles, "Sounds good." I nod, and grin, "Oh and we'll probably get pizza or takeout or something because Joel promised Moriah he wouldn't use the stove." Wren giggles, "You think he'll keep that promise." I nod, "With Luke there, he wouldn't dare to break it." As the bell rings, we all head off to our first classes of the day.

We sit down at our usual lunch table, and begin eating. Moriah packed me a chicken salad sandwich, veggie straws, a fiber bar, and a doughnut.

"Wow, you get the best lunches," Lucy mutters, sitting down with her school spaghetti. "Don't worry, tomorrow for lunch we'll have something awesome, I'm sure, since Moriah will be cooking," I assure her.

The four of us just chat, while we eat. "Luke's coming over?" Eden asks. I nod, "Yeah. He's bringing the boys with him." Lucy grins, "We're gonna have so much fun!"

The bell rings, and we go to all our afternoon classes. I lead my friends to Moriah's car. She smiles at me, "Did you have a good day, sweet girl?" I nod, "Yeah." I open the trunk, and help my friends throw their stuff inside. I climb in the front seat, and the three of them squeeze into the back one.

"Moriah, this is Eden, Lucy and Wren. Girls, this is Moriah," I say introducing them. "It's wonderful to meet you girls. I'm so glad you all get to spend some time together this weekend." The ride home is filled with us jamming to Air1.

I help them carry their stuff upstairs to my room. Then I lead them back downstairs to introduce them to Joel. "Joely-o, come meet my friends!" I call out. He pokes his head out of his office, "Young lady, you need a better nickname for me."

I giggle, "Joel, meet my friends Eden, Lucy, and Wren." He smiles, "I've heard a lot about you girls." Then he turns back to me, "How was your day, lovely?" I grin, "It was good."

Moriah comes down the stairs, carrying her overnight bag. Joel, insisting chivalry isn't dead, rushes to help her. She comes over to me, while he takes it to the car. "Keep an eye on him, Andria. Don't let him use the stove." I smile, "No problem. Have fun, Moriah." She hugs me, "You have fun too, girlie. I have my phone. If anything goes wrong, text me." I nod, "Will do. Love you." She blows me a kiss, "Love you too, mija."

Waving goodbye to my friends, she leaves for Courtney's. A few minutes after she leaves, we're watching some Disney Channel. Luke shows up with the kids.

"Ari! I'm here at your house!" Jude says, running up to me. "Yes you are bud! Would you like to meet my friends?" He nods, but instantly turns shy. "Jude, this is Eden, Lucy and Wren. Girls, this is my cousin, Jude." They all smile and wave at him.

He stops playing shy, and talks to them about dinosaurs. I jump up, and help Luke pull the pack and play inside.

"Thanks love!" He exclaims, trying to keep Phoenix's hands from pulling his curls. "No sweat. You ready for this?" I ask. He lets out a nervous laugh, "Not really. But we'll manage. Did Moriah leave any rules?" I nod, "Just one. Joel can't use the stove." He grins, "That's for the best."

He says hi to my friends, and sets Phoenix down on the floor. "Where is Joel?" I shrug, "Probably in his office." He nods, and leaves to find his brother. I crouch next to baby P, and tickle his stomach. He gurgles in delight.

A couple hours later, everybody's hungry. "Joel! Luke! Can we order a pizza?" I ask. Luke nods, "That's a wonderful idea, isn't it Joel?" Joel smiles, "Yes. You guys go to the park for about an hour. Let the boys run off some energy. When you get back, pizza will be here."

I help Luke get Phoenix situated in the stroller, and grabbing Jude's hand, the seven of us walk out the door towards the park.

We get there and Jude runs wildly to the swings, with Eden and Wren tailing him. "Daddy, can you push me?" He asks. Luke smiles, "Sure can, bud. Girls, keep an eye on Baby P."

I take Phoenix out of his stroller, and set him down in the grass. I hand him one of the toy trucks that Courtney packed in the diaper bag. He begins to drive across the dirt.

Lucy and I sit down beside him. He drives the truck across us and giggles. I pull another truck out of the bag, and we take turns driving it up him. He laughs so hard. We play for quite a while, then Luke lifts Phoenix back into the stroller.

"Let's go see what Joel got himself into. Jude, buddy, hold somebody's hand," he says. Jude grabs Wren's hand, and we make the trip back home.

We get to the house, and there's a third car in the driveway that is definitely not from the pizza place. "That's Libby's car," Luke points out. "I wonder what she's doing here?" I inquire.

"Auntie Libby! You're here!" Jude exclaims, running towards her. "Hey kiddo. What's up?" She asks, hugging him. He smiles, "Why are you here?" Libby lets out a chuckle, "Moriah texted me and said that two goons were hosting Andria's sleepover, and I couldn't let that happen, so I came over. You're lucky I did, because Joel was cooking freezer pizzas."

"I promised Moriah I wouldn't use that stove. I didn't say anything about the oven," he quickly defends himself. "Joel, were you trying to burn the house down?" Luke questions. "No, I was just proving that I could use the oven and not burn anything," he replies.

"You saved our dinner, didn't you Libby?" I ask. She grins, "Mhm. Now introduce me to your friends." I smile, "This is Eden, Lucy, and Wren. Girls, this is Libby, Joel and Luke's sister." They smile and wave at her.

We sit down to eat some pizza. "So lovely, what are you girls going to do tonight?" Joel asks me. I shrug, "I'm not quite sure." Jude smiles, "We should watch Goofy Movie cuz mommy and daddy don't have it and it's my favorite." Luke pats his shoulder, "You have to let the girls pick, buddy."

"No, it's okay. We'll watch A Goofy Movie, okay Jude?" I grin at him and my friends who nod in agreement. Luke smiles graciously at us. The ten of us gather in the living room, and put on Jude's favorite movie.

"Daddy! Uncle Joel! 'Member when we went there!" Jude exclaims, as the animated Disney castle takes over the screen. "Yes, we remember, little man," Joel says, ruffling his hair.

Jude snuggles into my side as the movie starts. He sings along to the songs, and laughs at the funny scenes. The credits start rolling and he turns to Luke, "Daddy, we have to buy this movie!" Luke nods, "We'll see, okay bud. It's time for bed."

Jude shakes his head, "I'm not even tired, daddy. Can't I stay up with Ari and her friends?" Luke picks him up, "Tell everybody goodnight." Jude doesn't put up a fight, "See you tomorrow everyone." Luke carries him upstairs, and to the guest room.

"What's the plans for the rest of the night?" Libby asks. "Well, Eden and Wren are dying to watch This Is WinterJam!" I reply. "I don't think we have that one," Joel jokes.

We watch This Is WinterJam, laughing at the scenes with Joel and Luke in them. "Okay, well it's 11pm, and I'm going to bed," Joel says, as the movie ends.

"Goodnight, girlie. Don't stay up too late," he says, kissing the top of my head. "Love you, Joely-o," I say, hugging him. "Love you too." He heads up to bed.

Luke comes back downstairs, with a tired look on his face. "Jude finally went to sleep! You girls sure got him excited!" He exclaims, triumphantly. "Sorry bout that. We watched This Is WinterJam. Joel went to bed. I think we're gonna watch another movie, you gonna join us?" I ask. He nods, "Sure am, dear! You need some adult supervision."

"Hey I'm here too, ya know, big brother?" Libby asks from her seat on the couch. Luke just shrugs. Lucy picked out The Princess Bride, so that's our next movie.

After it's over, Luke stands. "Goodnight girls! Be good!" He exclaims. I hug him, "Night Luke. See ya in the morning." He nods, "See ya then, love."

We put on more movies. Libby falls asleep. The four of us stay up, watching movies and talking. Before I know it, it's beginning to get light outside again.
