Chapter 1

They both have Australian accents, and by the looks of it, they're brothers. "Uh, which one will I be living with?" I ask. "Well," Joel says, "Luke already has two kiddos of his own, so you'll be staying with me, my wife Moriah, and our kitty, Adelina."

"But you're more than welcome to spend some time with me and my boys at my house," Luke says. Then I lead them to the couch and we sit down.

"So how did you know my dad?" I ask curiously. "Well," Luke starts, "Bryan's dad, your grandpa, was very close to our dad. His wife had left him, so our mom accepted Bryan as her own." Joel continues, "When your grandpa got sick Bryan was spending a lot of time with us. Eventually, he didn't make it. Dad and mom jumped and took Bryan in. After that he was like a brother to us."

"If you were that close to him, how have I never met you before?" I ask. "We kinda lost contact with your dad. He felt like he was imposing on our family lives," Luke says, disappointed. "But he wasn't," Joel adds, "and as soon as we heard of his death, we were shocked. But unfortunately we were in Australia that week and couldn't make it to the funeral."

I smile at them, even though there are tears streaming down my face, "I miss him so much." Joel puts his hand on my knee in a supporting way, "I know, darling. We all miss him." Luke smiles sadly at me, "You're such a strong girl, Andria. You remind me of your father in so many ways."

That makes me cry even harder. "Joel, Luke, would my dad be proud of me now?" I ask, hot tears falling everywhere. Luke strokes my hair. "Of course he would, dear. You're a beautiful young lady."

"Do you have all your stuff ready to go?" Joel asks. I nod, "Yeah, it's in my room." They follow me upstairs and help me carry everything outside to the minivan. I lock the house door, and get into the car with them.

"We're going to stop all Lukey's house first and see his family. Is that okay, love?" Joel asks, eyeing me in the rear view mirror. I nod, "It's fine."

The car stops at Luke's house. The three of us get out an walk to the door. "Daddy! Daddy! I missed you!" A small boy exclaims, jumping into Luke's arms. Luke smiles, "I missed you too, Jude."

"This is Andria. Andria, this is Courtney, my wife, and Phoenix and Jude, my sons," Luke says. Courtney smiles at me, "You're Bryan's daughter?" I nod, "Yeah." She continues to smile, "Oh, dear, you look so much like your dad."

I nod, and thank her. Feeling kinda introverted, I follow Joel around like I'm stuck to him. "Are you alright, love?" He asks. I nod, "I'm fine." He takes my hand in his, "You're going to grow more comfortable around them, I promise."

Luke finishes giving me the grand tour, and Joel and I are getting ready to leave. "Hey, Andria, dear, don't make yourself a stranger," Courtney says, hugging me. I tell the kids bye, and Luke escorts me to the car.

"Keep Joel out of trouble for me, love, okay?" He asks. I nod, "I will Luke. See ya." He cautiously wraps his arms around me, "Take care, beautiful." I lean up and kiss his cheek, "Thanks for everything, Luke." He looks surprised, gives my hand one last squeeze and goes inside.

I climb into the front seat of the car, and Joel drives the two minute drive to his house. "Don't grab those bags, Andria! I'll get them!" Joel exclaims, scurrying to grab them. I smile and follow him up to the house. I open the door for him, and after setting my stuff down he greets his wife, Moriah.

"Love, this is Andria, Bryan's girl. Andria, this is my wife Moriah," he says. Moriah wraps her arms around me, "Andria, I can't believe how beautiful you are. Your eyes are the exact same color as your dad's."

I smile at her, "It's nice to meet you. Joel told me a lot about you." Joel takes my bags, and carries them upstairs. I follow him.

"Andria-" he starts, but I cut him off. "You can call me Andi." He nods, "Okay Andi, this is your room. I'll leave you to unpack."

I place my hand on his shoulder, "Wait, Joel." He turns to face me, "Are you alright, love?" I nod, "Yeah, I just want you to know how much I appreciate what you and Moriah are doing for me." He smiles, and winks at me, "Don't mention it, dear."

He leaves the room, and although I should be unpacking I sit down in my desk chair and think. My phone is in my back pocket. I pull it out and see Joel and Luke's numbers. My mom gave them to me right before she left, just in case. They've already done so much for me.

Actually deciding to unpack, I put a ton of my stuff away, and walk back downstairs. "Andi, darling, I have a show tonight in Nashville. You can stay here with Moriah, or come with me. It's up to you," Joel says. "I'd like to go with you," I whisper.

"We'll have to get ready to go soon," he says. I nod, "Okay. I'll be back in fifteen." I go back up to my room, and rummage through my clothes. I finally decide on a pair of green jeans, and a black shirt. I pull on my black converse, slide my hair into a messy bun, and run back downstairs.
